Remember that Emperor complete discography boxed set announced by Blood Music back in ’14? It’s finally finished and been shipped off to all the lucky bastards who jumped on it while it was still available. The label issued this announcement:

“Nearly 4 years from start to finish, the Emperor official ‘The Complete Works’ box is finally finished. All production parts finished and shipped to everyone from whom payment was received.

“A huge thanks to everyone who pre-ordered this set and patiently waited during the entire ordeal. Needless to say, every single person who worked on this set was driven completely insane by it. That’s not hyperbole whatsoever, this set kicked the shit out of everyone who touched it.

“In the end, it took around 30 trips to the post office where I took up the entire back area to the point that the postal workers couldn’t even move around for several days.

“I honestly wish more people could own the set, but due to the entire logistics of it and the sparing no expense portion of its production, it’s only going to remain in the hands of a limited amount of people, sadly. When you build something where money is no object, that’s the unfortunate side effect. But the response so far has been incredible – I’ve heard many times over that the value to quality of the box set was very well worth it.

“It was the first project I designed top-to-bottom. And probably going to be my last too, haha. Need to give a huge thanks to Seempieces | Illustration & Design by Travis Smith, Ken, and Samoth – they all helped me achieve what I wanted in various invaluable ways and were all driven completely insane by it as well.

“There’s no chance I’ll ever do another box set like this again, and I’d be surprised if any other label does anytime soon. Pro tip: it’s financially not worth it, haha. So, please enjoy it. It will remain on sale during my break, and I’ll ship out any of them ordered/paid every few weeks or so. I’m absolutely delirious now, so I’m going to go back to that fabled break I’ve been talking so long about.”

Keyboardist Antti Myllynen has officially joined the ranks of Barren Earth as the band works on a new album. Barren Earth issued this update:

“Greetings Barren Earthlings! We would like to welcome and present Antti Myllynen as the new keyboardist of Barren Earth. He is a passionate and incredibly talented player who rocked with us on our recent European tour. He is also highly involved in perfecting the new songs, and his creativity is bringing the upcoming album to previously unexplored musical territory on the Barren Earthscape. A dream scenario for us! At the same time, we would like to thank Kasper Mårtenson for his amazing contribution to Barren Earth and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Mårtenson issued this statement about the situation: “Dear fans of Barren Earth, It is with sadness that I have the following announcement to make. After eight years, sixty-four gigs, three albums and one EP with Barren Earth I have decided to leave the band. At this moment I feel, and actually have been feeling for quite a while, that with Barren Earth I have achieved what I was hoping to achieve back when the band started. I don’t believe that the band could continue to fulfill my musical interests, and I’ll be focusing on gentler stuff in the future.

“There is no ill will whatsoever involved in this. I have had a helluva good time in Barren Earth, have many great memories to cherish, and we remain friends. And this is not to say I won’t be playing with Oppu, Marko, Sami, Janne and Jón ever again in one context or another. But as it stands right now, I’m off.”

Barren Earth will continue working on the new album to follow 2015’s “On Lonely Towers,” which will be immortalized this spring in V. Santura’s Woodshed Studios.

Memoriam – featuring ex-Bolt Thrower vocalist Karl Willetts and drummer Andrew Whale alongside Benediction guitarist Scott Fairfax and bassist Frank Healy – debuts a new song and lyric video entitled “Surrounded By Death”. The track is taken from the upcoming new album “For The Fallen”, which will be released March 24th throuch Nuclear Blast.

Check out now “Surrounded By Death” below.

Commented Karl Willetts:

“The lyrics to this song work on many levels. initially it relates to the literal interpretation of death all around on the battlefield. The song was written when there was a lot of high profile celebrity deaths e.g. Lemmy Kilmister 28/12/2016, David Bowie 10/01/2017, this was all over the media at the time when I was writing the lyrics to the song and had a major influence in the process. It seems that we all live in a world where we are all surrounded by death.

Death itself is a taboo subject that we never really think about or discuss until it actually happens to someone we know and love, in this respect the song is a reference to Martin Kiddie Kearns and also to Frank‘s dad who died not long after Martin. It is in some way a tribute their lives along with all the other people we have known and respected that have now passed on.”
