In celebration of Metal Blade Records‘ 35th anniversary, a recently digitized video from the archives will be launched every Thursday on the label’s official YouTube channel. These videos have never been officially uploaded by the label, and some are not currently available anywhere else online. Previous Throwback Thursday videos include classic cuts from Lizzy Borden, Candlemass, Nevada Beach, Skrew, and more.

This week’s installment is Princess Pang‘s “Trouble in Paradise” from the group’s 1989 self-titled album. Download or stream the album via the digital music provider of your choice:

About Princess Pang:
Princess Pang vocalist Jeni Foster met bassist Ronnie Roze on New Year’s Eve 1985 in Manhattan. The two vowed to form a band together, and when Roze had to return home to Sweden in order to renew his Visa, Foster was right by his side. They found guitarist Andy Tjernon in Sweden and Princess Pang was officially born. The three began recording demos, but were unable to find a drummer that suited them. They kept sending the demos to drummer Brian Keats (Roze’s band mate in Angels In Vain) in New York, hoping he would hook up with them.

In the fall of 1986 Keats did in fact join the group when the three returned to America from Sweden, and proceeded to finalize the band with the addition of guitarist Jay Lewis. They got signed to Metal Blade records, released an outstanding album, and toured behind the likes of Mr. Big, Ace Frehley and Wolfsbane.

Zeal & Ardor, the brainchild of Manuel Gagneux that mixes black metal and blues with lyrics delivered in the fashion of chain gang slave spirituals, just premiered brand new song “Don’t You Dare.”

This marks the first time the song has ever been heard and it was performed live at Couleur 3 studio in Lausanne, Switzerland on January 18th, 2017. Check out the video below.

The song does not appear on “Devil Is Fine,” Zeal & Ardor’s debut album, which is due out globally on February 24, 2017 and reviewed here.

Gagneux told Noisey, “The idea of something so horrible that merely looking at it will end you is fascinating to me. ‘Don’t You Dare’ thematically plays with biblical demons as well as Lovecraftian elements that lend themselves well to this idea. Since I wrote it after getting the band together, it’s not on the album, but will be performed on the upcoming tour. I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoy playing it.”

By way of a late Valentines Day gift, Bloodstock is thrilled to announce three more bands for 2017’s event. The festival organizers comments:

“Arch Enemy will be joining us as Sunday’s special guests. Get a taste of their Swedish melodeath with the live video for ‘War Eternal,’ shot at Wacken 2016 and check out what’s in store this August. The band, now fronted by Alissa White-Gluz, are set to release a new live DVD/Blu-Ray of full Wacken set titled ‘As The Stages Burn!’ on 31st March via Century Media.

“Salt Lake City deathcore mob Chelsea Grin also lands an early main stage slot on Friday. The band released fourth studio album, ‘Self Inflicted’ via new label home Rise Records last summer and unveiled a video for ‘Broken Bonds.’

“Lastly, prog metallers Oni join the ranks on the Sophie stage on Saturday. Signed to Metal Blade, these Canadians recently unveiled a creepy video for ‘The Only Cure’ from debut album ‘Ironshore,’ featuring guest vocals from Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe.”

Community Feed: I don’t really know if this is the right place to write this but because it is musically related I guess this will do. (This will probably be very typical for all of you UG people to read but anyhow just hear me out please) So this past Sunday i was noodling around on a bass guitar (I primarily play good ol’ electric guitar) and then I tried to do a quick hammer-on with my third finger from the 3rd to 5th fret of the bass.

The thrash pioneers from Anthrax, armed with an initial six dynamic SRO dates on the “Among The Kings” UK/European headline tour, will chronicle the frenzy with a live DVD expected to be released later this year via Megaforce.

Anthrax’s show was filmed last night at Glasgow’s historic venue Barrowland. Seventeen cameras, including five Go-Pros and a full-size camera crane, captured more than two hours of Anthrax favorites that were voted onto the evening’s set list by fans and included “Madhouse,” “Be All, End All,” “Breathing Lightning,” and “A.I.R.,” followed by Anthrax’s classic 1987 album “Among The Living” performed start to finish.

In addition to the live footage, the DVD will include “fly-on-the-wall” interviews and other B-roll shot on the band’s tour bus, backstage, in hotels and elsewhere. The DVD is being produced and directed by Paul Green of the Manchester, UK-based Paul Green Productions who has filmed concerts for Opeth, The Damned, Gary Numan, The Levellers, and many others.

Last year’s celebration of Anthrax’s 35th anniversary saw the band getting some of the best live reviews of its career, but the reception from British fans on this tour has been far more than anyone anticipated.

“I don’t know why it took us so long to come back to the UK and headline our own tour,” said Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna, “but I’m sure glad we did. These shows have been some of the best we’ve ever done, and that’s really due to the interaction with the fans, they’ve just been crazy. And that’s what we wanted to capture for this DVD.”

Bindrune Recordings and Eihwaz Recordings are proud to co-release the self-titled Coldfells debut on a limited run of 100 hand-numbered LPs, part of a bundle including a digital download code, an embroidered patch, and a professionally replicated CD version of the two Coldfells demo tracks, “Dungeons Deep” and “On Carven Throne.”

This self-titled release is coming April 1st via the label collaboration, with Bindrune and Eihwaz also issuing this press release:

“A winter night of introspection demands appropriate accompaniment, and for that, the blackened doom of Coldfells provides a perfect soundtrack to journeys outside frozen windows and within frozen souls.

“Call it doom, yes, but doom with classic heavy metal tropes: unabashedly melodic guitar lines parallel each torn-throat roar, and triumphant, power-laden clean choir vocals ride upon the the genre’s earmarks of slowness and sorrow. Around its edges, however, the music’s epic black metal influence is never far, rounding out a recipe with riffs and blasts that enhance rather than dilute the anguish of the proceedings.

“And there is anguish aplenty, as each member of this trio reached beyond their past projects to unearth something new within themselves, whether its vocalist/guitarist Aaron Carey’s (Nechochwen, End, Infirmary) wrenchingly personal and ultimately universal storytelling; bass/drummer/backing vocalist Andrew D’Cagna’s (Nechochwen, Obsequiae, Unwilling Flesh) tenor causing all fists to rise on ‘All Night We Flew,’ or guitarist Jonny Doyle’s (Plaguewielder, Horse Drawn) unflinching riffs dragging hearts down into gloomy darkness.

“But the true connecting fiber of this band – the aura of their Appalachian surroundings – encapsulates the album’s sonic purpose: … to see the winter Appalachian landscapes we grew up around… the dead trees, grey skies, run-down mill towns… but, besides everything being desolate… that it’s still beautiful.”
