Venom formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom’s first two albums – “Welcome To Hell” (1981) and “Black Metal” (1982) – are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom’s second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of the extreme metal subgenre of black metal. The band classic line-up trio of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon recorded two further studio albums – “At War With Satan” (1984) and “Possessed” (1985) – and live album “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (1986). Often cited by bands such as Metallica, Behemoth, Celtic Frost and Mayhem as major influences, they are one of the most revered bands of their generation. Venom are still fronted by original singer/bassist Cronos and headline festivals all over the globe and continue to release new music.

This coming May 31st sees the release of “In Nomine Satanas” via BMG – a deluxe vinyl box set that celebrates Venom’s 40th anniversary and features the original Neat Records recordings from their 1981 debut “Welcome To Hell” to “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” the live recording of their mythical appearance at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1985. All of the albums are remastered from the original tapes with embossed covers, posters and inserts like their original first editions. They’re all now on colour configured vinyl too. The set also includes a 12“ book detailing the history of the band featuring new interviews with all three members, written by respected journalist Dom Lawson.

Of particular interest to hardcore Venom fans will be the “Sons Of Satan” double-album included within the set that features a treasure trove of unreleased demos from the bands vaults, some of which are mythical among fans who have known about their existence, but have never heard them as the tracks alluded bootleggers. Among the tracks are the earliest known Venom performances, captured where the band rehearsed in 1979 at Westgate Road Church Hall in Newcastle’s West End and featuring original singer Clive “Jesus Christ” Archer on vocals. Also included are the £50 demos from 1980, captured at Impulse Studios, alongside further demos from 1980 and the “At War With Satan” 1983 Impulse Studio demos.

In Nomine Satanas features in full:

4LPs and 2 x 2LP

– “Welcome To Hell” (Remastered from original tapes on splatter vinyl. Comes with reproductions of original poster and insert with an embossed cover.)
– “Black Metal” (Remastered from original tapes on swirl vinyl. Comes with reproductions of original poster and insert with an embossed cover.)

Finnish Folk Metal Superstars Korpiklaani are currently touring Europe alongside Turisas and Trollfest in support of their latest studio album “Kulkija.” To celebrate, the band released a special tour edition, which includes the “Beer Beer” CD, featuring 14 different versions of the eponymous track. Taken from this CD is also “Bier Bier,” sung by Tankard’s Gerre, who even wrote the lyrics for the adaption. Watch the lyric video for the German “Beer Beer” version below.

Gerre stated, “I remember when we toured with Korpiklaani across Finland in 2009, where we had tons of fun! I also had a lot of fun while writing German lyrics for the band’s iconic song and recording it with our sound engineer Gerd Lücking (drummer of Holy Moses). I hope that I’ll meet the guys in Korpiklaani again soon, and we can have a few beers once again.”

The “Beer Beer” CD includes 14 versions of Korpiklaani’s iconic song “Beer Beer,” graced by the likes of Christopher Bowes (Alestorm), Steve “Zetro” Souza (Exodus), Andreas “Gerre” Geremia (Tankard), Jesper Anastasiadis (Turisas), Trollfest, Heidevolk and many more of their friends’ bands and musicians.

On March 22nd, Switzerland’s Cellar Darling will release their new concept masterpiece “The Spell,” which tells the story of a girl who falls in love with death and to get their loyal fans involved, the band had decided to let their online followers cast votes on which song from the tracklist they would like to see released as next single. The winner was the 7-minute long “Drown” and today, you’ll get to see the hauntingly beautiful music video that was once again animated by Costin Chioreanu.

“For this single, we wanted to do something different”, the band states. “And we felt that our striking one-word tracklist is perfect for a fan vote. To let people decide which song they want to hear next based on only the title and length of the song, and to take us out of the decision process for once. To our surprise — and joy — the song that is probably the least “commercial” of all of them was chosen and we think that is kind of cool… we are proud of every chapter of this concept album, so let’s go ahead and release a non-single single, for once. We hope you enjoy it!”

Former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo, who’s also know for a number of other bands including Down, Superjoint Ritual and Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, has announced that he will debut his latest project, En Minor, at the upcoming Psycho Las Vegas event, which will take place from August 16th – 18th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Speaking with DamnationVault.com, Anselmo says, “I will say that the darkest, heaviest, most miserable shit I’ve ever written I have not released and that’s a band called En Minor. I’ve never put it out, man. And I still… I don’t know if I’m getting cold feet or not, man. It’s not party music, it’s not good time music. People are asking me to do gigs with it and shit like that and I just don’t know if it’s going to translate the way people might envision because they haven’t heard the music, it’s so hard for me to explain it. It’s heart-wrenching shit, man. It’s very hard for me to just explain and it’s also very hard for me to… It’s tough because no one’s heard it and I don’t know if people should fuckin’ hear it, man.”

He continues: “It is, I guess, the truest, darkest record I’ve ever done in my life and I’m just not sure about it. I’m not sure about it. I think the musicianship is great, I love the band I have surrounding me… I just… When I do a project, I go 1000%. So like, with the last Illegals record, it was a death metal style, death metal flavor of the moment that was really reigning supreme when we were writing the stuff. So that’s where I went with that and stayed true to it stylistically. The same can be said with En Minor.”
