In the April/May 2014 issue of Revolver magazine, the surviving members of PANTERA — vocalist Philip Anselmo, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott and bassist Rex Brown — speak about the making of the band’s classic 1994 album, “Far Beyond Driven”, which is being re-released next week as a 20th-anniversary, two-disc edition. The new version will include a newly remastered version of the original recordings along with a new live performance from the 1994 Monsters Of Rock festival.

Speaking about PANTERA‘s touring activities that followed the release of “Far Beyond Driven”, Vinnie Paul said: “When we went on the road, that’s when the wheels started coming off and people didn’t know what other people were doing. Phil had his own bus. Things started turning into what they turned into in the end.

Phil started isolating himself from the rest of us. It got to the point where we wouldn’t see each other until about 20 or 30 minutes before showtime. You never knew if he was going to be in a shitty mood or a good mood. You just hoped it was good enough to get through the show. That’s truly where some of the shows started lacking. They weren’t as good as they used to be, and he would start his rants and go on for 20 minutes while we stood around and looked at him, like, ‘What the fuck are you saying to these people, dude? They want to hear us play some songs. Let’s play some music.’”

Said Anselmo: “The touring was really a mixed bag for me. The [chronic back] pain was intense, but the thrill was still there much of the time, and when I was onstage, that part of it I enjoyed very much. But during this time, I was drinking an entire bottle of Wild Turkey every night before a show to numb the pain I was experiencing.

“I felt trapped, man. I felt lost even trying to explain to the guys in my band, who were so used to seeing Superman up onstage, that I was not Superman anymore. I felt like a trapped animal, honestly. I felt cornered and very confused.

“The words that would come out of my mouth [while we were on stage] were abrasive. I was lashing out at other bands when I really had no business mentioning other bands during a PANTERA show. I was going slowly insane throughout the touring of this record, whether it be from pills, alcohol, or the mental stress from carrying around the chronic pain along with the addiction.”

When PANTERA broke up in 2003, Vinnie Paul and his brother, PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale. He was 38 years old.

PitCam TV conducted an interview with vocalist Dani “Filth” Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH during the band’s European co-headlining tour with. You can now watch the chat below.

Guitarists Paul Allender and James McIlroy both sat out CRADLE OF FILTH‘s European tour with BEHEMOTH due to “hugely important family matters” and “serious neck surgery,” respectively. Filling in for them were Ashok of Czech groups ROOT and INNER FEAR and Richard Shaw of English acts EMPEROR CHUNG and NG26.

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of “The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh”, the historic debut album from CRADLE OF FILTH on Cacophonous Records. To honor this momentous occasion, CRADLE OF FILTH is planning a whole smorgasbord of exciting stuff, including the first-ever CRADLE OF FILTH comic, the release of a career-spanning double disc best-of, and, of course, the subsequent touring.

CRADLE OF FILTH‘s tenth studio album, “The Manticore And Other Horrors”, sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 96 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band’s previous full-length effort, “Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa”, opened with 5,800 units in November 2010 to land at No. 99.

Reunited grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN played their landmark 1994 “Superunknown” album last night (Thursday, March 13) at the iTunes Festival, which made its U.S. debut as part of the ongoing South By Southwest festivities in Austin, Texas.

The event was streamed live through the iTunes store and was available on all personal computers and mobile devices.

Fan-filmed video footage of SOUNDGARDEN‘s concert can be seen below.

Last month, SOUNDGARDEN announced that it will be releasing two special deluxe editions of “Superunknown”.

“Superunknown – Deluxe Edition”, which will feature the remastered album as well as b-sides, demos and rehearsals, will hit stores on June 3.

“Superunknown – Super Deluxe Edition” will also hit stores on June 3 but will be a full five CD set with a hardcover book and photos.

SOUNDGARDEN forntman Chris Cornell told Billboard.com that the idea for a “Superunknown” show came about after the group put together the special 20th anniversary deluxe editions. “It’s the idea of the reissue and recognizing it as an anniversary, which I don’t think is our instinct, ever,” Cornell explained. “But it seemed kinda to make sense for this album. If you can single out any of our albums as being, like, the most iconic one, it’s obviously this one. I think it’s an accomplishment, and I’m proud we did it. So it’s kind of a cool thing to do and concentrate on.”

As for the performance, Cornell opened by explaining to the audience: “I want to apologize ahead of time because there are so many different tunings on this album and when we sequenced it, we didn’t really care about that… so we’re going to switch guitars a lot on pretty much every single song.”

The singer told Billboard.com: “When you start with the tunings, it seems like a more disjoined album than it really is when you play it in order, because each tuning has its own personality. But the whole album seems to flow naturally, but when you look at it closer it seems less fluid in a way.”

Swedish progressive rockers THE FLOWER KINGS have had a busy year since regrouping in 2012 for the “Banks Of Eden” album, and with a new creative vigor, the band is following that with the fantastic new CD, “Desolation Rose”, due out in the USA on October 29. To be issued in a digipack, the U.S. release will also include a bonus disc. The cover artwork was once again created by Silas Toball and can be seen below.

Commented THE FLOWER KINGS: “Being somewhat of a political statement, the epic theme of ‘Desolation Rose’ is a logical step in a time where perpetual war, famine, environmental threats, religious conflicts dominate the media and our minds.

“This is a time to wake up and the music on this album takes you on a journey where you are forced to questions what the mainstream media feed us and to rethink your whole worldview on all of the above.

“This is in many ways a typical FLOWER KINGS album, but we have also taken it into another realm where we do take chances and where you may struggle to get into the music — or the lyrics — but trust me when I say that you will be rewarded, as this may be our most involved, important and interesting album ever. ”

“Desolation Rose” track listing:

01. Tower One (13:39)
02. Sleeping Bones (04:16)
03. Desolation Road (04:00)
04. White Tuxedos (06:30)
05. The Resurrected Judas (08:24)
06. Silent Masses (06:17)
07. Last Carnivore (04:22)
08. Dark Fascist Skies (06:05)
09. Blood Of Eden (03:12)
10. Silent Graveyards (02:52)
