Brazilian death metallers KRISIUN joined German thrashers DESTRUCTION on stage on Sunday, September 22 at the Rock In Rio festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to perform a cover version of the VENOM classic “Black Metal”. Video footage of the performance can be seen below.

Said DESTRUCTION vocalist/bassist Marcel “Schmier” Schirmer: “I would like to dedicate this performance to my old-time buddy Michael Trengert [Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade] that passed away in that night when we were on stage in Rio.

Michael was one of the founders of the German metal scene, a great friend and maybe the most honest guy in this monkey business. He will be missed like no one else!

“RIP, brother — your legacy will never die!”

DESTRUCTION‘s 30th-anniversary album, “Spiritual Genocide”, was released on November 23, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2011’s “Day Of Reckoning” was recorded at Gernhart Studios in Troisdorf, Germany with engineer Martin Buchwalter and was mixed by Andy Classen. The album features guest appearances by Thomas “Angelripper” Such (SODOM), Andreas “Gerre” Geremia (TANKARD) and Ol Drake (EVILE). In addition, the “Mad Butcher”/“Release From Agony” lineup of DESTRUCTION — featuring guitarist Harry Wilkens and drummer Oliver Kaiser — reunited for one song.

CANNIBAL CORPSE will wrap up its 25th-anniversary celebrations for 2013 with a pair of shows in Florida, which has served as the band’s base of operations since relocating to Tampa from Buffalo, New York in 1994. The concerts are scheduled for November 29 in Ft. Lauderdale at the Culture Room and November 30 in Tampa at the Brass Mug. Tickets will go on sale this Friday at Ticketmaster.com for the Culture Room.

Comments CANNIBAL CORPSE founding member and bassist Alex Webster: “We are very excited to be doing these shows in Florida this November.

“We formed the band in the first week of December back in 1988 so these shows will be happening almost exactly 25 years after our formation. It will be great to celebrate our band’s anniversary in the state that helped put death metal on the map. Also, we are very happy to be able play Ft. Lauderdale to make up for the show we missed there in June. And I think fans in both cities will be happy when they see the ticket price for these shows!”

Metal Blade Records has been releasing one picture disc a month from the band’s expansive catalog of releases (“Eaten Back To Life”, “Butchered At Birth”, “Tomb Of The Mutilated”, “The Bleeding”, “Vile”, “Gallery Of Suicide”, “Bloodthirst”, “Gore Obsessed”, “The Wretched Spawn”, “Kill”, “Evisceration Plague”, “Torture”). A total of 12 pictures discs will be released, covering all of the band’s full-length studio albums, some of which have never been released on picture disc.

Earlier this year, it was announced that CANNIBAL CORPSE was selected for induction in the Buffalo Music Hall Of Fame as a member of the Class of 2013. CANNIBAL CORPSE is the latest addition to the Hall Of Fame, which also includes Buffalo natives the GOO GOO DOLLS, Billy Sheehan, 10,000 MANIACS, and many more. The Class Of 2013 will be inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall Of Fame at its 30th-anniversary induction gala, which will be held October 3 at the Tralf Music Hall in Buffalo.

THE SKULL — the new band featuring original TROUBLE members vocaist Eric Wagner and drummer Jeff “Oly” Olson alongside TROUBLE‘s longtime bassist Ron Holzner and SACRED DAWN guitarists Michael Carpenter and Lothar Keller — peformed at Tequila Jaxx this past Saturday, September 14 in Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio. Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below. This was THE SKULL‘s first performance with Olson.

Olson rejoined THE SKULL last month, explaining in a statement: “I know that I’ve mentioned that I wouldn’t perform TROUBLE‘s music anymore unless it’s with the other original members, but I’ve had a change of heart. I want to rock again.

“Although I have been having a great time playing keys for IN-GRAVED (led by former PENTAGRAM guitarist Victor Griffin), I miss the drums and playing classic TROUBLE songs. I’m still going to jam with Victor, but there is room for THE SKULL too.”

He added: “In just a few short months, 2014 will mark the 30th anniversary year for TROUBLE‘s debut record, ‘Psalm 9’. TROUBLE guitarists Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin are having fun with their new record, and I had fun writing some intros for it. It’s just that Eric, Ron, and myself want to jam too and celebrate our 30th anniversary as well with a tour and a new record. We’ve worked just as hard as Bruce and Rick over the years and we feel that we’ve earned the privilege to celebrate with the fans as well. There is no animosity between the two bands and we intend to keep it that way.”

“We are currently writing a debut record, set for release in 2014 and I’ve already submitted several songs to the guys. Excitement is in the air.”

THE SKULL‘s debut CD will be produced by Billy Anderson (HIGH ON FIRE, SLEEP, NEUROSIS) this autumn in Portland, Oregon and will be released via as-yet-undetermined record label.

THE SKULL is:

Eric Wagner – vocals
Jeff Olson – drums
Ron Holzner – bass
Michael Capenter – guitar
Lothar Keller – guitar

Metal-Trails.com conducted an interview with guitarist Ken Hammer of Danish hard rockers PRETTY MAIDS at this year’s Wacken Open Air festival, which was held August 1-3 in Wacken, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

PRETTY MAIDS‘ latest album, “Motherland”, was released on March 22 in Europe and March 26 in North America via Frontiers Records.

After their successful and highly acclaimed 2010 album “Pandemonium”, PRETTY MAIDS celebrated their 30th anniversary with their debut visual release, “It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)”, in 2012. “Pandemonium” showed the world that PRETTY MAIDS were in a creative spring again, with the band in their finest moment. The melodic approach brought a return to the “Future World” / “Red Hot And Heavy” era of the Eighties, but with an updated sound and freshness that consolidated PRETTY MAIDS as strong as ever.

In late spring 2012, the band gathered to finally write the follow-up album. Singer Ronnie Atkins explained: “We knew it was going to be a tough one to follow. I remember back in the day when we had to follow-up albums like ‘Future World’, we tried more or less to copy the songs from the previous album to keep the same kind of balance. But this time we just wrote what came natural to us and that’s what became ‘Motherland’.”

The band teamed up again with producer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, AMARANTHE) for the new CD. Ronnie said: “Jacob was a natural choice since we had a great experience with him producing the ‘Pandemonium’ album. The recordings went smooth to begin with, but then we had to start touring again during the weekends and this created some stress. Though I really feel strongly about ‘Motherland’. In my view, it has all the ingredients of a good PRETTY MAIDS album, maybe even more melodic than ‘Pandemonium’ and absolutely, as far as I’m concerned a worthy follow-up.”

EUROPE‘s 30th-anniversary performance at this year’s edition of the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden was the band’s only Swedish concert of 2013 and the stage show was one of the greatest, if not the greatest of the band’s entire career. Long-running Swedish rap/metal combo CLAWFINGER has released the following statement:

“Sometimes you grow together, sometimes you grow apart, sometimes you don’t grow anywhere but you still keep on going anyway for lack of better options because it’s all you know how to do!

“Anyway, the simple truth here and now is that CLAWFINGER are calling it a day, throwing in the towel, going fishing, quitting and moving on to pursue other goals in life!

“After 20 years, 7 albums, more than a thousand gigs and 10 million beers consumed together, it’s simply time to put the band to rest and do other things! Nothing is, of course, ever carved in stone, but please don’t hold your breath; that is, if anybody out there is stupid enough to even consider doing so!

“It’s been one hell of a ride, no doubt about it. Bumpy, yes; long and winding, yes; full of dead ends and wrong turns; but all the same one hell of a fucking ride, an experience to remember and treasure for life!

“All our love, repsect and admiration goes out to the people who have supported us along the way, the fans, most of all, because you’ve always been the fuel on our fire, but hell, even the record companies deserve a little thanking at a time like this.

“There are too many people to thank, but you know who you are, and if you’ve been there for us, respect to you all for the love, patience and understanding you’ve shown us through the years. Your dedication has been priceless and maybe we’ll see you out there again for the 30th anniversary if we decide to try and cash in on past achievements with the old classic reunion trick; only time will tell!

“Thank you for everything, respect and one love to you all!”

In an August 2009 interview with Bulgaria’s Tangra Mega Rock, CLAWFINGER frontman Zak Tell stated about the band’s status, “We’re just trying to survive like all the other bands out there. The business is very different from what it was 15 years ago. You can’t survive only by being in a band these days, so we’re working and doing what we have to do to pay the rent and trying to find time for CLAWFINGER. The only plan we have for a release at the moment is a remake of ‘Deaf Dumb Blind’ for the 20th anniversary . The plan is to re-record all the songs from that album and bring in guests. We’ve been talking to some of the guys from RAMMSTEIN and Peter Tägtgren from PAIN and HYPOCRISY. We’ve made some friends through the years and hopefully we can get them to add their own flavorings and colorings to those old tracks.”

CLAWFINGER‘s latest album, “Life Will Kill You”, was released in the U.S. in July 2008 via Locomotive Records. The CD, which entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 89 upon its European release in 2007, was recorded and produced at Sweden’s Fear And Loathing Studios, a facility that CLAWFINGER runs along with the members of MESHUGGAH.
