MEGADETH performed a short acoustic set on August 7 in front of a select group of fans at VEVO studios in New York City. The band played the following three tracks:

* Symphony Of Destruction
* Kingmaker
* She-Wolf

Video footage of the “She-Wolf” performance can be seen below.

MEGADETH has just completed a headlining run at this year’s edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by Dave Mustaine.

In addition to MEGADETH, this year’s installment of Gigantour featured BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH, NEWSTED and DEATH DIVISION.

MEGADETH‘s latest album, “Super Collider”, has sold 64,000 copies in the United States since its June 4 release. The CD arrived in stores via Mustaine‘s new label, Tradecraft, distributed by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). It marks MEGADETH‘s first release since the band’s split with Roadrunner Records.

MEGADETH filmed a video for the “Super Collider” title track on May 10 in the Los Angeles area. California-based model, actress, singer and songwriter Hunter Elizabeth was cast in the lead role in the clip, which she says is “about a high-school couple still loving each other after all the years after graduation, and at the 10-year reunion, both characters find themselves successful (a model and a mathematician) and still very in love.”

“That song kind of came from that ‘Symphony Of Destruction’ corner of my mind,” Mustaine told Guitar World magazine. “You can’t always play aggressive, thrashy stuff. Sometimes those aren’t even songs; they’re like musical rams. But because I’m not a pop guy, I’m also not really comfortable playing sing-along songs. To me, ‘Super Collider’ made sense like a normal song — a verse-chorus-verse-chorus kind of thing. It’s written the way a real songwriter would write the song, instead of just taking all these musical twists and turns.”

On August 22, Electra Mustaine, the 15-year-old daughter of MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine, and Jason Kertson, the 16-year-old grandson of Rob Lind, a member of THE SONICS, a Seattle-area band that helped shaped the punk rock music sound in the ’60s, played a short acoustic set for many of the wounded soldiers at the Fort Lewis army facility near Olympia, Washington. Video footage of their rendition of Carrie Underwood‘s “Undo It” can be seen below (courtesy of Savoia Photography Live).

Electra and Jason performed their version of the MEGADETH song “A Tout Le Monde” on King 5 TV‘s “New Day” with Margaret Larson, then joined Margaret to talk about their families’ respective musical legacies and why it’s important for them to respect and support the military. Brittney Hamilton, founder of Operation Ward 57, a non-profit organization that helps wounded servicemembers and their families, shared more about the work the group does and praised Electra, Jason and other young people who take such an active role to salute and support the military.

In a 2005 interview with Musician’s Friend, Dave Mustaine was asked if either of his children were musically inclined and if so, if there were any desires to follow in dad’s footsteps as a rock star. “My son [Justis] plays guitar in the band at the school he goes to,” Dave said. “He goes to a Christian Academy and he plays in the worship band there. Which, go figure, Dave Mustaine‘s kid’s playing worship songs! Which I’m very thrilled about, because when he was born, all I wanted was him to be able to know God’s word, and be a black belt in the martial arts style that I’ve been training in, so he could take care of himself and if he’s meant to die that he would go to Heaven. Pretty much everything I’ve wanted out of this kid, he’s done. He gets great grades, he’s beautiful like his mom, and he actually can play! When we were in Germany, he was soundchecking, and we found some peckerhead out there with a video camera taping him. I’m like, ‘You ain’t getting the exclusive on this kid, guy!’ We nabbed the camera. The drummer Shawn Drover‘s son, his name is Ryan, was playing drums and Justis was up there jamming on guitar. Now, Electra, my daughter, plays piano, and she’s got a really good voice, but she’s still seven, so a lot of that is just seven-year-old, childlike, angelic singing. Most really young children, when they sing, sound angelic and as soon as they cross that little imaginary line of puberty their voice starts to sound like two cats having sex in an alley.”

Belgian metallers CHANNEL ZERO have posted a four-minute video tribute to their fallen drummer, Phil Baheux, who passed away this past Saturday (August 10) at the age of 45. Check it out below.

CHANNEL ZERO is scheduled to pay tribute to Phil Baheux tonight (Wednesday, August 14) by playing a short acoustic set on the stage of the Mont des Arts at the Brussels Summer Festival.

For all the bandmembers, as well as for the fans, this will be an homage to the musician and the man Phil Baheux used to be.

The organizers will install a big screen on stage for this occasion.

All other previously announced CHANNEL ZERO shows will be canceled due to this tragic event.

Baheux founded CHANNEL ZERO in 1990, along with singer Franky De Smet-Van Damme and bassist Tino De Martino. In 2010, they reformed the band with the addition of American guitarist Mikey Doling [SNOT, SOULFLY].

At the time of Phil‘s death, the band was in the process of recording a new studio album.

CHANNEL ZERO‘s latest album, “Feed ‘Em With A Brick”, received a wider European release in June 2012 via Graviton Music Services. The CD, which was originally made available in June 2011 in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg through Roadrunner Records, was recorded at a Los Angeles-area studio with producer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, DEVILDRIVER, GOJIRA).

If you’re 555…

Download’s less than two weeks away! We ask Slipknot / Stone Sour mainman Corey Taylor some essential festival queries…

You’re playing twice this year? That’s just greedy!

You know, you’d think just playing Download once would be OK. But apparently I just have to be there all fuckin’ three days now, as some weird American ambassador. But hey, I’m in! I get to see a bunch of great bands, have a good time and play… I’m fucking stoked man.

How many times have you been to Donington?

Oh for fuck’s sake! I think the first time was with Stone Sour in 2003. So I’ve been there about four times with each band and then I played an acoustic set last year. This will be my first time being there for the whole fuckin’ weekend, I might as well just have a house just outside of Derby for Christ’s sakes! The cool thing is that every time I’m there, I’m just so ecstatic. Going to Donington and Download is not even a pilgrimage anymore. It’s like going to the world’s greatest amusement park, knowing I’m going to sit on every fuckin’ ride, eat all the fuckin’ food and make myself sick from being happy. It’s my favourite time of the year, and the fact I’ve been there in some sort of capacity for the past ten years, I’m pretty ecstatic about it!

What’s your favourite Donington memory?

Obviously, the night we headlined with Slipknot in 2009 was something else. It’s hard to describe if you haven’t been in that moment. It had been 10 years of doing this professionally with Slipknot, since our debut album came out. It took 10 years for us to get to the point where we were headlining. It’s a festival I’ve been reading about my whole life as a metal fan, as a rock fan. So words can’t really describe the emotions that were going through me, I was on the verge of fuckin’ tears during the first four songs. I couldn’t believe we’d made it that far, that night will always be very special to me. Especially now, knowing we got to do it before Paul passed away. I’m really looking forward to this year, but it means so much that we did that with Paul. It means the world to me.

What are you most looking forward to about playing this year?

With what band, ha ha?! I’m really excited about the Slipknot set, I can’t give too much away because we’ve changed the setup a bit. We’re dusting off some classics, let’s put it that way. I’m really looking forward to playing with Stone Sour, especially the first three songs of that set. I can’t wait for the audience to sing along to Absolute Zero – I mean that song is tailor made for England! Just thinking about that moment is giving me chills…

Which bands on the bill are you most excited about?

I’m gonna try to see as many bands as I can, but I’m never going to miss Maiden. Doesn’t matter where I am or who I am with, I will definitely be watching Maiden. They’re one of my top five bands ever! There’s a handful of other bands I’m hoping to see, but it all depends on my press schedule. I would like to apologise to anyone trying to schedule during Maiden’s set… but you’re not getting a fuckin’ interview. It’s just that fuckin’ simple. That’s basically mission one – if I can see Maiden, that’s my weekend made!

If you could only pack five things to take with you, what would they be?

Wet wipes, because it’s gross out there and the running water they have, you don’t exactly want to put your body in. A case of bottled water, because like I said any running water there you won’t wanna exactly put your mouth on. One of those big packages of Herschey’s chocolate bars, because I’m a chocolate junkie! A carton of smokes and fresh underwear. Because I know there’ll be at least four or five bands that will blow me away.
