According to a press release, DUST BOLT “demonstrate[d] with their debut album that they are hungry, bursting with energy and highly explosive! The love for Bay Area trash metal is evident in the songs of the German quartet, but the use of modern elements gives their sound a highly unique character. The songs are aggressive, furious and reminiscent of old classics by the likes of KREATOR, SLAYER and TESTAMENT.”

GENERATION KILL, the band featuring EXODUS frontman Rob Dukes, will release its sophomore album, “We’re All Gonna Die”, on November 15 via Nuclear Blast. The CD was produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris, who has previously worked with SUICIDE SILENCE, ALL THAT REMAINS, SHADOWS FALL and SOULFLY, among others.
Commented Dukes: “We called this album ‘We’re All Gonna Die’ because, for the most part, the lyrics are about the darker side of the existence of humans on this planet.
“The album as a whole is so diverse, drawing from our influences that we grew up on.
“We achieved our goal of creating something that we all are so proud of. I personally think this is the strongest vocal performance of my career, and as a band we can’t wait for the hard rock/metal world to hear this album.”
Added Zeuss: “This album is not an EXODUS clone. This is an album of music where five guys got together an explored our own roots of music, the records we grew up listening to and wrote songs paying homage to what we love.”
“We’re All Gonna Die” track listing:
01. Born To Serve
02. Prophets Of War
03. Self Destruction
04. Friendly Fire

GENERATION KILL is:
Rob Dukes – Vocals
Rob Moschetti – Bass/Backing Vocals
Jason Trenczer – Lead Guitar

Experimental metal act EPHEL DUATH will return with its first album in five years, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness”, on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.
A video trailer for the CD featuring album artwork created by visionary artists Dehn Sora and Aeron Alfrey can be seen below.
Ignited by commitment and passion, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” is a multi-layered hybrid of death metal, jazz and post rock, and a strong statement from a band never bounded by rules. With intuition set as the only significant parameter, EPHEL DUATH takes an uncompromising will to experiment, to a whole new level of intensity.
“This album holds together all that EPHEL DUATH‘s music has touched in the last fifteen years and pushes its boundaries even further,” comments EPHEL DUATH mainman Davide Tiso. “Lyrically, the new songs dig deep in higher self subject matters, combining brutally visual imagery with a painfully honest soul-searching quest.”
Featuring eight new songs and reaching over 50 minutes of total length, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” includes a unique line-up of: Marco Minnemann (KREATOR, NECROPHAGIST, JOE SATRIANI) behind the drums, Bryan Beller (DETHKLOK, JOE SATRIANI) on bass, lead singer Karyn Crisis (CRISIS) along with Tiso. The album was produced by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios in New York.
“Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” track listing:
01. Feathers Under My Skin
02. Tracing The Path Of Blood
03. When Mind Escapes Flesh
04. Within This Soil
05. Those Gates To Nothing
06. Through Flames I Shield
07. Hemmed By Light
08. Shaped by Darkness
“Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” will be available in digipack CD, double LP and digital formats.

French death/black metallers TEMPLE OF BAAL will release their fourth full-length album, “Verses Of Fire”, on October 22 in Europe and November 12 in North America via Agonia Records.
According to a press release, “Verses Of Fire”‘s “sound has been carefully manufactured by Andrew Guillotin in Hybreed Studios. Focusing on a more organic side thanks to the use of tube amps and natural drums, the production allows the natural old-school feeling of the band to shine through the whole album. Through ten tracks — lasting about an hour — TEMPLE OF BAAL explores a wide spectre of extreme metal: from the raging blast beats or the furious ‘Bloodangel’, to the thrashing mayhem of ‘Golden Wings Of Azazel’ or the double-bass-drum mid-tempo of ‘Lord Of The Raging Seas’. Eerie, haunting black metal vibes are never neglected, though: ‘The Tenth Aethyr’ or the conclusive, nine-minute epic ‘Walls Of Fire’ bring the band back to their primal influence — the sinister sounds of early ’90s black/death metal.”
This new album will be available as digipack CD, limited double LP and extra-limited gold LP (66 copies only).
The band comments: “We’ve always seen black metal as the sacred music of the ‘other side,’ and this album is sacred to its very core. All its music and lyrics have been created after long hours of meditation and spiritual works. We are a temple, a place of worship, and this aspect drips through each and every minute of those ‘Verses Of Fire’.”

Frontiers Records will release the much-anticipated third album from PLACE VENDOME, “Thunder In The Distance”, on November 1 in Europe and November 5 in North America.
PLACE VENDOME is the melodic rock project featuring UNISONIC and former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske on all lead vocals and production from Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69).
PLACE VENDOME started in 2004 whenKiske, following a self-imposed exile from the rock and metal scene which lasted a few years after his departure from HELLOWEEN and solo career, accepted an offer in 2004 to be part of a melodic rock-oriented concept put together by Frontiers Records president Serafino Perugino.
The resulting PLACE VENDOME debut album brought Kiske back to a more straight-ahead rock sound, still very accessible and melodic and far from the heavy metal stereotypes of blood, violence and hate which Kiske never had anything to do with. He collaborated for the first time with PINK CREAM 69‘s Dennis Ward, Kosta Zafiriou and Uwe Reitenauer with Gunther Werno (VANDEN PLAS) on keyboards. In a quite ironic twist of fate, Michael found himself to work with members of PINK CREAM 69 when that band’s original singer, Andi Deris, took his place in HELLOWEEN after Kiske left.
The very favorable acceptance of the first PLACE VENDOME album planted the seeds for a second recording entitled “Streets Of Fire”, which was produced during 2008. The concept was slightly changed, with some outside writers such as Robert Säll (WORK OF ART), Ronny Milianowicz (SAINT DEAMON) and Torsti Spoof (LEVERAGE) handling the bulk of the songwriting, with Dennis Ward still handling the recording and production sessions.
Following his stint with the band UNISONIC, Kiske decided to go back once again to the PLACE VENDOME concept with more melodic rock-oriented songs which — once again — have been selected by Perugino from outside writers, including Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR), Timo Tolkki (ex-STRATOVARIUS), Alessandro Del Vecchio (HARDLINE), Roberto Tiranti and Andrea Cantarelli (LABYRINTH, A PERFECT DAY), Tommy Denander (RADIOACTIVE), Sören Kronqvist (SUNSTORM, ISSA), and Brett Jones.
“I am having a very open mind in terms of music anyway, and the PLACE VENDOME vibe is a pretty different approach than UNISONIC,” says Kiske. “I like many tracks off the PLACE VENDOME albums, but especially ‘Guardian Angel’, ‘Streets Of Fire’, ‘I Will Be Waiting’, ‘Set Me Free’ from the previous albums or now ‘Maybe Tomorrow’. For me, the vocals are the most important part of a song, of course.”
Ward once again produced and mixed the whole affair with such musicians as Dirk Bruineberg (CONSORTIUM PROJECT), Gunter Werno (VANDEN PLAS) and Uwe Reitenauer (PINK CREAM 69) completing the lineup.
“Thunder In The Distance” track listing:
01. Talk To Me
02. Power Of Music
03. Broken Wings
04. Lost In Paradise
05. It Can’t Rain Forever
06. Fragile Ground
07. Hold Your Love
08. Never Too Late

10. My Heart Is Dying
12. Maybe Tomorrow
13. Thunder In The Distance

Swedish rockers NOCTUM will release their new album, “Final Sacrifice”, on October 29 via Metal Blade Records. The cover art was painted by Timo Ketola (SUNN O))), ARKTAU EOS) and fits perfectly with the album’s raw, natural sound.
“Final Sacrifice” is a fictional horror story where each song communicates a portion of the overall narrative. The “final sacrifice” is like a red thread that ties the songs together and is the concept behind the art. “Final Sacrifice” is an analog piece of art in both audio and visual aspects.
In the town of Uppsala, Sweden in the year 2009, a band called SÉANCE was formed. Moving at breakneck speed the band formed in September, recorded a two-song demo after adding guitarist Per Wikström to the lineup in October, and by November had changed their name to NOCTUM. Within those three months, the band signed an LP deal with High Roller Records, and a CD deal with Stormspell Records.
NOCTUM‘s debut album, “The Séance”, was released in September 2010 via High Roller and in December by Stormspell. The band finally embarked on its first European tour in July of 2011, and followed that up with a new EP, “The Fiddler”.
By August of 2011, NOCTUM created enough buzz in the underground to gain the attention of Metal Blade Records, which led to a new worldwide record deal.
With a new record deal in place with a global label, NOCTUM spent the majority of 2012 refining their sound and writing new songs. Their search for original and interesting material led them to a heavier and darker sound. The progression came very naturally for the band and differs from the typical ’70s vibe. The new material successfully evokes a heaviness and emotion one might not expect from a “retro”-sounding band.
NOCTUM toured Europe again in 2012, and then welcomed the addition of drummer Fredrik Jansson after Gustaf‘s departure. Jansson, who spent time in WITCHCRAFT, COUNT RAVEN, and ABRAMIS BRAMA, was added to the lineup in time to record “Final Sacrifice” in April 2013.
“Final Sacrifice” track listing:
02. Liberty in Death
03. Resurrected in Evil
04. Deadly Connection
05. Void of Emptiness
06. The Revisit
07. A Burning Will
08. Temple of the Living Dead
David Indelöf – Guitar/Vocals
Daniel Johansson – Guitar
Tobias Rosén – Bass
Fredrik Jansson – Drums

Candlelight Records has set an October 21 North American release date for “Das Seelenbrechen”, the fifth solo album from EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn. The effort will be available on compact disc, a limited edition digibook (with expanded graphics and liner notes), and double 180-gram clear vinyl. Pre-orders are set to launch via online and physical retail outlets beginning September 10.
“Das Seelenbrechen” is a bold and adventurous recording that is a musical contrast to the progressive shades and saxophone augmentations of the EMPEROR vocalist/guitarist’s previous two albums (2009′s “After” and 2011′s “Eremita”). The album exists in an entirely unfamiliar sonic world as Ihsahn draws upon his most esoteric influences, fully embracing the spirit of the avant-garde. Comprising ten vivid but disparate explorations in sound that range from bittersweet electronica to deranged and feral improvisation, “Das Seelenbrechen” is every bit as dark and destructive as the artist’s previous work but is far more disorientating and disturbing than anything he has attempted in his past.
“Musically, this album is a very deliberate sidestep to what I have been doing; a necessity to reset the creative parameters so not to fall into formula,” says Ihsahn. “I think I do my best work slightly outside of my comfort zone and I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. Free form and improvisational can be scary for a musician but it is very liberating at the same time.”
Recorded at Ihsahn‘s own studio in Norway in collaboration with drummer Tobias Ornes Anderson (LEPROUS), “Das Seelenbrechen” courageously eschews traditional metal instrumentation in favor of a limitless textural landscape that evokes the freewheeling spirit of artists like Diamanda Galas, Scott Walker, and John Zorn. Ihsahn notes; “Even though my music has changed over the years, I feel there is a source of inspiration at the bottom of it all that is constant. The general idea for this album was to try and dig deep into this raw source and express it without too much refinery and do so within a less familiar musical landscape. It is the reason for several purely improvised songs and parts on this album. I spontaneously performed with just lyrics and the idea of the atmosphere I was wishing to create. While many will feel it sounds different, I don’t think it is necessarily different from my previous album. And in my head, it will fit in perfectly with my plans for the sixth album.”
“Das Seelenbrechen” takes its name from Nietzche‘s famed “Human, All Too Human: A Book Of Free Spirits”. Writings by the 19th-century philosopher and other historical figures have often found their way into Ihsahn‘s songwriting.
“The title is taken from one of his aphorisms on art and how, in its purest form, is neither good nor bad,” says Ihsahn. The album’s abstract packaging, again conceived by Spanish graphic artist Ritxi Ostariz, embraces the aphorisms essence.
Few artists in modern heavy music have created such an extraordinary and unique body of work as Ihsahn. Having refined and redefined black metal with the now legendary EMPEROR, Norway’s foremost musical extremist has spent the last decade establishing himself as a fearless and wildly idiosyncratic solo artist.
“Of all my albums, my goals for this one have been the most abstract,” says Ihsahn. “I’ve had quite a rollercoaster ride putting it together but now that it is done I must say I am very pleased.”
“Das Seelenbrechen” track listing:
05. Tacit 2
09. Sub Alter
11. Entropie (bonus)
12. Hel (bonus)
Ihsahn‘s April 21 performance at this year’s edition of the Roadburn festival at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland was professionally recorded and can now be streamed using the audio player below.
