On March 15, Project Alpha TV conducted an interview with Swedish metallers AVATAR at this year’s Hammerfest, which was held at Hafan y Mor Holiday Park, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire, Wales. You can now watch the chat below.

AVATAR‘s new album, “Hail The Apocalypse”, will be released on May 16 via Gain Music in Europe and May 13 through eOne in USA. The CD was recorded in Karma Sound Studios, Bang Saray, Thailand, mixed by Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER) and mastered by Paul Logus (VOLBEAT, CLUTCH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE).

AVATAR is described by many as a perfect mix between RAMMSTEIN, ALICE COOPER and SYSTEM OF A DOWN — something the band has now developed further with the video for “Hail The Apocalypse”.

“Hail The Apocalypse” track listing:

01. Hail The Apocalypse
02. What I Don’t Know
03. Death Of Sound
04. Vultures Fly
05. Bloody Angel
06. Murderer
07. Tsar Bomba
08. Puppet Show
09. Get In Line
10. Something In the Way
11. Tower

Vocalist Johannes Eckerström comments on the “Hail The Apocalypse” video, which can be seen below: “This is our best video to date. I play your friendly neighborhood doomsday prophet. You get to follow me facing the unbelievers and their reactions when chaos ensues. Good times all around and we are using some really amazing special effects to blow up the planet. Oh, and it’s done like a silent movie.”

The visually stimulating “Hail The Apocalypse” album cover has also been reveled. It vividly depicts the band steering their ship through a storm on the open sea with the apocalypse happening all around them. They’re facing it, riding the waves and taking on whatever comes their way. To the band, it symbolizes the time in the darkness that made these songs.

AVATAR gained much attention when it comes to its creativity in videos, which are always produced by the bandmembers themselves.

Since the release of the band’s last CD, “Black Waltz”, AVATAR has had massive success all over the world. The singles “Smells Like A Freakshow” and “Let It Burn” peaked on No. 26 on U.S. commercial rock radio charts, where they also stayed for several weeks well ahead of more established bands in the scene. This was followed by extensive and successful U.S. tours.

The biggest break through came when AVENGED SEVENFOLD personally picked AVATAR as support band on their sold-out arena tour in Europe late 2013. AVATAR got a reception far beyond expected by the crowds, which resulted in bookings on high profiled festivals such as Download festival and Rock On The Range in 2014, among own headline dates of which most are soon sold out.

AVATAR is:

Johannes Michael Gustaf Eckerström – Vocals
John Alfredsson – Drums
Kungen – Guitar
Tim Öhrstrom – Guitar
Henrik Sandelin – Bass

Eagle Rock Entertainment, in association with Banger Films, has announced the world premiere of “Super Duper Alice Cooper” at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by AT&T, where it will screen as part of their Spotlight section. Taking us through his life and career, Alice presents his story in the first ever “doc opera” film — a dizzying blend of documentary archive footage, animation, and rock opera.

“Super Duper Alice Cooper” is the twisted tale of a teenage Dr. Jekyll whose rock ‘n’ roll Mr. Hyde almost kills him. It is the story of Vincent Furnier, a preacher’s son who struck fear into the hearts of parents as Alice Cooper, the ultimate rock star of the bizarre. From the advent of Alice as frontman for a group of Phoenix freaks in the ’60s to the hazy decadence of celebrity in the ’70s to his triumphant comeback as ’80s glam metal godfather, we will watch as Alice and Vincent battle for each other’s souls. Alice‘s story is told not only by the man himself, but through exclusive interviews with members of the original Alice Cooper band, Elton John, Iggy Pop, John Lydon and Dee Snider.

“Super Duper Alice Cooper” is the creation of Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn at Banger Films, producers of “Iron Maiden: Flight 666″ (2009 SXSW Audience Choice Winner) and “Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage” (2010 Grammy-nominated and Tribeca Audience Choice Winner), and much-lauded filmmaker Reginald Harkema, winner of the TIFF Special Jury Prize for his film “Monkey Warfare”.

The 13th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival will take place from April 16 to April 27 at locations around New York City.

In a 2012 interview with Spinner.com, Dunn stated about the Cooper documentary: “We know Alice through various projects that we’ve done. We interviewed Alice for ‘Headbanger’s Journey’. He’s also featured pretty prominently in two episodes of [the new groundbreaking documentary series] ‘Metal Evolution’, both in [the] Shock Rock and Early Metal U.S. [episodes]. He’s a pretty fascinating character, who has been through a lot in his life. He’s one of those musicians that maybe he hasn’t had a hit in a long time, but everyone knows who Alice Cooper is because of his influence on pop culture and the big songs he had in the ’70s.

“We’re exploring a different stylist approach with this film. It won’t be talking heads; it’s going to be more of an archival and animated journey through his career.

“He’s such a rich visual artist, it makes so much sense to try and do it in a different way.

“I think we’re just a little bit sick of doing talking head interviews, to be honest [laughs], after doing 300 of them for ‘Metal Evolution’. So it’s really the story of Alice‘s career from the ’60s right up to the ’80s and everything he went through — the ups and the downs, battles with alcoholism, being raised in a Christian family, rebelling against that but then coming back to faith later in his career, and moving from town to town, and trying to find his place.”

Alice Cooper‘s latest album, “Welcome 2 My Nightmare”, sold 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart. Cooper‘s previous CD, 2008′s “Along Came A Spider”, opened with just under 10,000 copies to land at No. 53.

Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum “Welcome To My Nightmare” album in 1975, “Welcome 2 My Nightmare” picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

On September 26, Chad Tyson of the 98.7 The Gater radio station in West Palm Beach, Florida conducted an interview with legendary rocker Alice Cooper. You can now listen to the chat below.

Cooper has just completed work on a covers album featuring songs that were originally written and recorded by THE DOORS, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and THE WHO, members of the so-called “Hollywood vampires” of the early and mid-’70s. A spring 2014 release is expected.

“We’re really happy, all of us, everyone involved in the covers because it’s pretty much what we wanted to do,” Cooper told RollingStone.com earlier in the year. “We specified a certain time period and said, ‘Let’s stay within that. Let’s not move it around too much.’ We don’t want to be doing cover songs from the 80s and 90s when the Hollywood vampires kind of thing was more ’73, ’74, ’75.”

Back in March, Cooper said about the upcoming CD: “We do a thing in our show, which is a tribute to Hollywood Vampires, my drinking club. And it was Keith Moon, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Micky Dolenz — a very eclectic bunch of drunks. Half of them are dead, so we do four songs in the show in tribute to them. We do ‘Break On Through’, ‘Revolution’, ‘My Generation’ and Jimi Hendrix‘s ‘Foxey Lady’. I just kind of said, ‘We’ve never done a covers album, let’s think about that.’”

Asked what some of the wish-list songs are, Cooper said: “I would keep it right to about ’73, ’74. I don’t want to just go anywhere. I want to keep it right in that sort of drunk era, so it’s specific. I would say ‘Break On Through’, that’s a really good rock track there. The other ones, think of it — Harry Nilsson, there’s a lot of good stuff there that could be rocked out. I think of songs as being clay. Take a song like ‘Jump Into the Fire’ and take that to a harder level, and that’ll work.”

DEEP PURPLE will release the track “Above And Beyond” as a CD-single and on seven-inch vinyl on October 25 in Europe. The single artwork was based on the original graphic work of Black Dwarf Designs.

A promotional video for the single can be seen below.

“Above And Beyond” comes off DEEP PURPLE‘s latest album, “Now What?!”, which sold 4,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 115 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Now What?!”, the 19th studio album from DEEP PURPLE, was released in North America on April 30 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD contain 11 tracks, including “Out Of Hand”, “Weirdistan”, “Uncommon Man” and “Above And Beyond”. The latter song references the band’s late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric “Souls having touched are forever entwined.”

In a recent interview with RadioMetal.com, DEEP PURPLE singer Ian Gillan stated about the songwriting process for “Now What?!”: “There were no rules. We started with nothing, except the right attitude; that’s all. Every day, it was the same routine: the guys walked in at noon and we all worked until 6 o’clock on the writing sessions. We just stopped at 3 o’clock for a cup of tea. After 6 o’clock, we would go home, have a shower, some dinner and go to bed early, even if I’m always up in the middle of the night, writing lyrics. We start at 10 o’ clock the next morning when we’re recording. But the writing is always noon until six. It starts with nothing. Ian [Paice, drummer] and Roger [Glover, bassist] would start jamming, playing for an hour non-stop and trying out some rhythms or grooves. They would stop and say, ‘No, that’s not good,’ then start something else and say, ‘Remember that. Maybe on Thursday we’ll try this again and maybe it’ll be a song.’ Everything emerged from jamming sessions.”

Video footage of MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson‘s September 9 Guitar Center workshop in Austin, Texas can be seen below.

The autobiography of David Ellefson, co-founder and bassist of 11-time Grammy-nominated heavy metal titans MEGADETH, will be made available on October 29 via Howard Books. Ellefson‘s memoir, “My Life With Deth”, chronicles the story of Ellefson‘s fall into addiction during the band’s early years, followed by his subsequent recovery and the return to faith which championed the band’s rise to fame over the past several decades. The book was written with Joel McIver, the bestselling author of 21 books on rock music, and features a foreword by Alice Cooper. World rights to “My Life With Deth” were sold to Philis Boultinghouse at Howard Books by agent Lisa Gallagher at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates.

Ellefson says: “My autobiography is not the usual tale of rock ‘n’ roll woe, but rather something I hope will truly inspire people. I have dedicated my life to my craft, and I wanted to share the story of how a kid with a bass guitar and the dream of rock stardom literally risked it all to move from the farm in Minnesota to Los Angeles, and with a lot of hard work, sacrifice and a little luck along the way, made the dream come true. I think the readers will enjoy the stories, as well as the hardships, of this way of life as a musician and artist. I’ve been very open about my life’s obstacles and the means by which I overcame them. Now, my hope is that this story will inspire others to follow their dreams and really live out the purpose for their lives, too.”

The book features contributions from Kerry King (SLAYER), Scott Ian (ANTHRAX), Ellefson‘s current bandmate in MEGADETH Shawn Drover and also former colleagues Chris Poland and Marty Friedman.

MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson was interviewed on the latest edition of “The Classic Metal Show”, which is heard live on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. EST at TheClassicMetalShow.com. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

World rights to “My Life With Deth” were sold to Philis Boultinghouse at Howard Books by agent Lisa Gallagher at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates.

Since 1983, the celebrated metal band MEGADETH has sold more than 20 million albums, received eleven Grammy nominations, and built a fan base of millions. Still going strong, they recently toured the world with METALLICA, ANTHRAX and SLAYER. Now, in “My Life With Deth”, Ellefson tells the whole behind-the-scenes story of the band and his personal journey from suffering to salvation.

At first glance, Ellefson‘s history reads like a how-to manual of excess, from hardcore drugs to X-rated debauchery. But Ellefson goes much deeper, taking us on a gripping journey from his Lutheran upbringing as a Minnesota farm boy, through the culture shock he experienced when he arrived in Los Angeles and entered the music industry, to his drug-fueled MEGADETH days, and finally how he beat his addictions and embarked on a path of sobriety and faith, entering a new life of Christian devotion. Today, studying to become a Lutheran pastor, Ellefson presides over MEGA Life! Ministries, a foundation that reaches hundreds of churchgoers every week.

In addition to numerous gold and platinum records, David is the author of the book “Making Music Your Business” and has two metal bass guitar instructional DVDs through Rock House Method entitled “Metal Bass Vol. 1″ and “Vol. 2″. He is also a featured bass clinician, keynote speaker and panelist on the subject of music and the music industry.

The Father of Shock Rock, Alice Cooper, and the world’s easiest guitar to play, Fretlight Guitar, have launched Quitters Anonymous, an online community for “tried but quit” guitar players.

80 percent of people who start to play the guitar give up within 90 days. Fretlight and Alice Cooper seek to reverse this trend, making it possible for anyone to learn to play the guitar, even if they have tried and quit in the past.

Quitters Anonymous serves as a welcoming online community for people to share their own personal journey to learn to play the guitar. Members receive exclusive video lessons, tips, tricks and more from guitar experts to help them stop quitting forever, plus chances to win autographed Alice Cooper memorabilia, concert tickets and exclusive meet-and-greets during Cooper‘s U.S. tour, which kicked off June 1 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Cooper is featured in a series of satirical videos as a therapist helping recovering guitar quitters face their fears and embrace the guitar, a notoriously difficult instrument to play. As someone who initially struggled to learn the guitar, Cooper jumped at the opportunity to partner with Fretlight, which Guitar World magazine has coined “the fastest and most effective way to learn how to play.”

Fretlight Guitars are premium acoustic and electric guitars that include the world’s only built-in LED learning system. Fingering positions for chords, scales, songs and riffs light up where players need the information most, right under their fingers. The Fretlight Guitar and learning system uses interactive instruction and video lessons to enable guitar players at every level to learn up to 10 times faster than ever before possible.

“The first step to overcoming quitting is admitting you have a problem,” said Alice Cooper. “You aren’t alone. Millions of us have struggled to learn to play guitar, clumsily looking back and forth between chord and scale books, our fingers and the neck of the guitar. It can become a house of horrors.”

“Unfortunately, new beginner players are at a disadvantage when learning to play guitar in the traditional manner. It’s very difficult. But really, it’s not their fault. They have been set-up for failure,” said Rusty Shaffer, inventor of the Fretlight Guitar and founder of Quitters Anonymous. “Quitters Anonymous is a place where recovering guitar quitters everywhere can come together and encourage one another that learning with a Fretlight guitar is very different. We set you up for success the instant you put your hands on the Fretlight.”

By connecting through a PC or Mac, the Fretlight Guitar and learning system uses a combination of software and video instruction to dramatically simplify and accelerate the process. The video lessons can be slowed to a desired tempo, and looped so fingerings can be practiced at a comfortable pace, building muscle memory, retention and confidence.

Fretlight Guitars, including the complete learning system, start at $299.99 for the FG 507 Fretlight acoustic. The FG-500 series also includes five electric models: Standard, Traditional, Vintage, Classic and Pro, ranging in price from $399.99 to $899.99.
