California rockers TESLA last month entered the studio to record eight or nine new songs, to be included on the band’s forthcoming album.

Says TESLA guitarist Frank Hannon: “I must say that this new TESLA album is really gonna be awesome.

“We went in more prepared with the songs and ideas way more than ‘Forevermore’, and the style is pure TESLA back to our roots.

“The band is working and producing it as we did ‘Into The Now’… with help from the legendary Tom Zutaut, who helped us make our best albums.

“The title of the new album is gonna be ‘Simplicity’ and I truly believe you guys are gonna love it!”

He added: “The opening track is called ‘MP3’ and starts off with an opus intro that orchestrates into a heavy slow groove with lyrics about technology and how we miss simplicity, vinyl albums, family values… and has a heavy-ass riff! Then we segue into a rock and roll song called ‘Ricochet’ that talks about Uncle Ted

“Can’t wait to play this stuff live!”

A new TESLA song, “Taste My Pain”, was released last summer via iTunes and Amazon. The track was recorded during a two-day (June 5-6, 2013) session at J Street Recorders in Sacramento, with plans to include it on the upcoming CD. According to the group, “It’s a heavier song with a hard-driving beat and TESLA trademark blazing guitars.”

TESLA‘s latest album, “Twisted Wires And The Acoustic Sessions”, was released in July 2011 via Scarlet Records. The CD featured six songs that were recorded back in 2005 at bassist Brian Wheat‘s J Street Recorders studio — which also served as the last recordings with original member Tommy Skeoch — and six newly recorded tracks, including acoustic remakes of songs from TESLA‘s entire catalog and two brand new songs, “Second Street” and “Better Off Without You”.

TESLA released a live album, “Alive In Europe!”, in Europe on April 23, 2010 via Frontiers Records.

TESLA‘s latest studio album, “Forever More”, sold more than 16,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 33 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on October 7, 2008 on Tesla Electric Company Recordings. The European version of the album, which was made available on November 7, 2008 via Frontiers Records, contains two bonus tracks not found on the American version.

British metallers SYLOSIS have been forced to drop off their North American tour with TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER and AFTER THE BURIAL after being involved in a serious RV accident Tuesday night on their way to a show in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In a posting on the band’s Facebook page, SYLOSIS guitarist/vocalist Josh Middleton writes: “Myself, Rob [Callard, drums] and [Alex] Bailey [rhythm guitar] have just been released after over ten hours in hospital. Carl [Parnell, bass] is being kept in overnight as he’s in too much pain to walk but should hopefully be released tomorrow morning (Montreal time) once some of his muscle pain/swelling has subsided.

“All four of us and our driver were hospitalized, but seeing as Bailey was the only one who didn’t get taken in on a stretcher and a neck brace, he wasn’t treated as urgently. He’s just had his back sewn up and is off to the scrap yard where the RV was taken to get people’s clothes and some personal items — hero.

“We’re all very lucky. We’ve mostly just been stitched up (my eyebrow, a few on Carl‘s legs and Bailey‘s back), badly bruised and what feels like full-body whiplash.

“In car-accident terms, we’re alright, but in general terms we’re not physically capable of continuing on with the tour and aim to get back to our families and friends [as soon as possible] to recover.

“We want to thank the paramedics, the passersby who came to our help, the staff at the hospital and all of the fans and bands that have wished us well. It means the world to us.”

SYLOSIS‘ latest album, “Monolith”, was recorded with Romesh Dodangoda in Wales at Monnow Valley Studio and was mastered by Jens Bogren (SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) at Fascination Street Studios. The concept for the lyrics were loosely inspired by the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. The artwork was created this time around by Dan Goldsworthy (ACCEPT, HELL).

“Monolith” can be purchased on Amazon, iTunes and the Nuclear Blast webshop.

DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara broke the news via Twitter, explaining that SYLOSIS “ran into the back of a tractor trailer full speed” and “totaled the RV,” landing three of the members of the band in a local hospital. He added: “My thoughts go out to those guys. This is so sad! Send positive thoughts, everyone.”

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson makes a guest appearance on “The Last Ship”, a soundtrack primarily featuring Sting for a Broadway production of the same name. Johnson can be heard on the song “Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint”, which is one of eight bonus tracks on the super deluxe edition of the album.

A 90-second snippet of “Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint” (courtesy of Ultimate Classic Rock) can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

“The Last Ship” explores the central themes of homecoming and self-discovery, drawing upon Sting‘s memories of growing up in the shadow of the Swan Hunters Shipyard in Wallsend. His personal reminiscences illuminate universal truths — the complexity of relationships, the passage of time and the importance of family and community — to form an affecting, complex parable for our modern times.

The play, in which Sting has been creatively immersed for nearly three years, debuts on Broadway in 2014 and is a collaboration with Tony Award winners Joe Mantello (director; “Wicked”, “Other Desert Cities”), John Logan (writer; “Red”, “Skyfall”) and Brian Yorkey (writer; “Next to Normal”). “The Last Ship” tells the story of the demise of the shipbuilding industry in 1980s Newcastle which had, for so long, shaped and overshadowed the city, its development, and its community.

Due on September 24, “The Last Ship” album is produced by Rob Mathes (Sting, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Lou Reed, Carly Simon) and engineered and mixed by Donal Hodgson. It will be available as both a digital and physical release in two configurations — a 12-song version and a 2-disc deluxe version featuring 5 additional tracks. (The 12-song version will also be available on vinyl.) A super deluxe edition, containing 2-discs comprised of 20 tracks within special packaging, will also be sold as a physical product exclusively at Amazon.com. AmazonMP3 will be the exclusive retailer for the 20-track, super deluxe digital edition.

Whole Amazon.com might be selling a metric ton of vinyl per year (and increasing), the music industry is still sporting a huge frown. Apparently the physical medium is dying way more than we thought it was… for now. 745% sounds like a ridiculously massive number, doesn't it? Well it's really not all that great. According …

“Why So Lonely”, the new Aksel Dalili-directed video from former THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL “goddess of beauty” Kari Rueslåtten, can be seen below. The song, which is available via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and Wimp, is a new version of the THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL track from the band’s “Tears Laid In Earth” album (1994), featuring a guest appearance by NIGHTWISH mastermind Tuomas Holopainen on piano and keyboards. A new full-length album will be recorded this fall for a tentative January 2014 release.

In an interview with FestivalBlog.be, Holopainen stated about his guest appearance on the track: “It’s just an incredible thing because this album called ‘Tears Laid In Earth’ from 1994 is my all time number one album. It’s my favorite album of all time and I’m not exaggerating when I say that listening to this album made me form NIGHTWISH. I wanted to do something similar. That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard — female voice, atmospheric metal; I wanted to do something similar. So I owe everything to this band and this album. And then Kari contacted me saying, ‘I’m doing a cover of the song ‘Why So Lonely’ for my solo album, Would you like to come and play the piano and the keyboard for that song?’ And I [said ‘Yes’], like, immediately, I mean, this is an unbelievable coincidence. I did it last May and it’s going to be out September 10th.”

Rueslåtten in 2005 her solo debut, “Spindelsinn” (originally issued in 1997 via Sony Music Norway), re-released through GMR Music Group‘s Peach Music label. The CD was re-mastered and featured two bonus live tracks.

Rueslåtten‘s fourth solo album, “Other People’s Stories”, was released in 2005 via GMR/Peach Music. The follow-up to 2002’s “Pilot” was previously described as “filled with [Kari‘s] best songs to date as well as wonderfully produced.” A live video was shot for the album’s title track.

The original THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL version of “Why So Lonely” can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada-based progressive metal masters VARGA, who reunited in 2011, have been hard at work in the studio with longtime friend and producer/engineer Julius “Juice” Butty (ALEXISONFIRE, PROTEST THE HERO) completing their long-awaited “Enter The Metal” and “Return Of The Metal” CDs. VARGA bassist/lead vocalist Joe Varga states: “In both collections of music, you’ll hear a return to our metal and progressive roots with songs laden with heavy licks, crazy time changes and insane vocals.”

“Enter The Metal” is slated for release on October 30 and will be available on the band’s web site as well as through Amazon.com and iTunes.

A new VARGA song, “Gamera”, is available for streaming and download using the SoundCloud widget below.

VARGA released two albums in the ’90s — “Prototype” (1994) and “Oxygen” (1996) — before caling it quits. Drummer Dan Fila and guitarist Sean Williamson went on to form the short-lived HYPODUST.
