In the one-and-a-half-minute video below, former NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis shares his top tips for being on tour. The clip was shot on March 25 in Joliet, Illinois.

The special tour edition of Loomis‘ latest album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, was released on April 16 via Century Media Records.

“Plains Of Oblivion – Tour Edition” features three bonus tracks, in addition to the original “Plains Of Oblivion” disc that was released last year.

Loomis‘s second solo album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, sold 2,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 179 on The Billboard 200 chart. The effort landed at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Plains Of Oblivion” was released on April 10, 2012 in North America (one day earlier in Europe) via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES) and features cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design, who has previously worked with ALL SHALL PERISH, THE END and XERATH.

“Evig Vandrar”, the new video from Norwegian rockers KVELERTAK, can be seen below. The animated clip was helmed by Torjus Førre Erfjord, who also worked on the band’s video for the song “Blodtørst”.

“Evig Vandrar” comes off KVELERTAK‘s sophomore album, “Meir”, which topped the official chart in Norway. The CD, which sold 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release, was issued on March 26 via Roadrunner Records. It was produced by CONVERGE‘s Kurt Ballou and features cover artwork by John Dyer Baizley.

“It is both catchy and heavy; we’re pushing our limits in both ends of that spectre. It’s very varied and there are a lot of surprises in store. I mean, it’s unlike anything I myself have heard before, so we even managed to surprise ourselves,” said vocalist Erlend Hjelvik.

KVELERTAK is Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitars), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitars), Maciek Ofstad (guitars), Marvin Nygaard (bass) and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums).

We’ve only been sent another update on that new Hell album from our mate, Andy Sneap. What’s occurin’, Sneap?

“Spent the last 14 hrs tracking drums with Tim “ernie” Bower. Its an in joke, (google bennie Hill + ernie), we have alot of “in” jokes in this band, its great to finally be in a band where everyone wants the same result, team players….who would have thought!!! Lets just say, its a refreshing change from my previous position. Go figure.

“Anyway, All 12 tracks now done on drums, myself and Kev in full swing finishing guitars and keys, Tony in later this week to do the last of the bass and Dave is in lunch time to keep working on vocals. Artwork and photos to go over in the meantime, plus sorting travel and shows for sept and tour in November. I also have the label wanting listening copies and I’m due to fly to US in 3 weeks straight after german festival to start work producing the next Accept record. I don’t think I’ve ever been busier…..did I mention having to do a studio report for metal hammer everyday also……”

To mark the thirteenth anniversary of IMPALED‘s “The Dead Shall Dead Remain” debut, the group will release a re-recorded version of the album, entitled “The Dead Still Dead Remain”, on October 29 via Willowtip Records.

Long tangled in legal limbo, the music from “The Dead Shall Dead Remain” has been unavailable on CD for over a decade. The re-recording dodges those legal hurdles and puts the music back in print.

The stakes were raised as IMPALED sought to best the production of the original. “The Dead Still Dead Remain” features recording and mixing by Vinnie Wojno, famous for his work with TESTAMENT. IMPALED and Wojno worked for three years to get the recording they wanted. “It simply sounds better, no matter how you slice it. And we surely do slice it!” says guitarist Jason Kocol.

IMPALED assures fans that the music on “The Dead Still Dead Remain” is faithful to the original. It features the return of vocalist Leon del Muerte, who says: “It was like the last thirteen years of backstabbing and spitefulness never happened!” Even the artwork, which the band insists has already been banned in “672 countries,” harkens back to their first release but is even more revolting.

Vulture Industries

Vulture Industries: modern life is going to the dogs

Bergen, Norway’s avant-metal mentalists Vulture Industries have teamed up with artist extraordinaire Costin Chioreanu to create a mindbogglingly beautiful video for the track Lost Amongst Liars, and Metal Hammer is proud to premier it right here.

Romania-born Costin is one of the most sought out artists in the underground rock and metal scene, his stunning, wood-cut inspired worlds gracing releases by artists such as Anders Björler, Grave Twilight Of The Gods, Castle and Solefald to name a few, as well as providing the artwork for 2014’s revered Roadburn festival and designing t-shirts for Swedish legends, At The Gates.

His video for Lost Amongst Liars – taken from Vulture Industries’ new album The Tower, out via Season Of Mist Records on September 27 – is a richly textured, surreal yet deeply poignant journey that perfectly matches the song, so check out the exclusive video below and our interview with Vulture Industries frontman Bjørnar Nilsen too!

Can you give us a bit of background on the artist, Costin Chioreanu, and the making of the video?

Bjørnar: “Costin has been a highly productive graphical artist for some time now even though he is quite young (I like to think of him as quite young at least, considering that he is one year younger than me). As far as I know he started his cover art career by drawing covers for his copied tapes and making his own band posters. How he was picked up for making official artwork, I don’t really know, but I’m sure it must have been a long and laborious road. Making a living for yourself as an artist in early post-Ceausescu Romania doesn’t sound like the easy pick to me.

“I first got into contact with Costin at the festival Dark Bombastic Evening in Romania where we were performing with Vulture Industries. He was hosting an exhibition on the festival grounds as in house festival artist. I instantly connected with his artwork and saw a strong link to what we are trying to convey through music. After discovering his art it turned out there was a mutual admiration and that Costin was actually a fan of Vulture Industries. For long I wanted to get a piece of his art, and when developing the concept and music for our new album, The Tower, the opportunity presented itself.

“Costin instantly connected with the theme and music and made a total of four fantastic pictures for the cover. In addition to the front cover there are three highly detailed pictures of the nightmarish dystopic world that the album conveys. We were increasingly awestruck, and with each picture our collective jaws hung closer to the floor. Encouraged by the success of our initial cooperation we figured that doing a video collaboration was imperative. As a natural consequence of the preliminary form of our cooperation, and due to the unappealing nature the band members exteriors, doing an animation video was the logical choice.”

The video was Costin’s interpretation of the song – but what’s your take on the narrative and how it relates to the lyrics?

“It’s all Costin. We didn’t give him a single guideline apart from keeping our faces out of it. The video is more his interpretation of the overlying concept of the album rather than just relating to the particular song. The video follows the flow of the song nicely, but the narrative is wider. The narrative relates to roles and truths within a constructed reality. A reality which is bent and crooked when you see it from the outside, but as you get sucked into it and drawn deeper and further you lose your perspective. The further you go the longer and harder the fall from grace, and the more that are drawn in the bigger the calamity when it eventually comes toppling down. And it always does.”

Vulture Industries songs seem to inhabit their own universe. Did you have a vision for the space the albums take place in, and how much does it mirror our own?

“When I write music for an album I tend to build a mental cityscape around it. It’s based on our own world, but I kick it in the knee so it gets a limping gait. I like to bend it all a little so the jagged edges stick out more. Basically to have some grit and dirt show on the outside instead of hiding all the good bits under the carpets. It’s more fun to pull it all out and throw it into the streets. Then we can make a good spectacle of it. Anyway, considering the absurdness of the world we live in I’m not always sure which the weirder one is: the Vulture Industries world or earth. Did you for example know that Kim Jung-Un, the current leader of North Korea, holds the writing credits for all music made for accordion in that country?”

There seems to be a realm of Norwegian metal with a kaleidoscopic, Vaudevllian sensibility – Arcturus, Solefald and Ved Buens Ende to name but a few. Do you feel any sense of kinship with those bands, and why do you think it’s such a thread in the metal scene there?

“Not so much anymore. Mingling too much with family leads to funny children, so we try to stay clear of it. As for the common kaleidoscopic sensibility I don’t really know, but I lend my support to the explanation that draws on the Northern lights mixed with that stuff they put in the water.”

Symbolically, Towers are harbingers of destruction. Do Vulture Industries have a similarly apocalyptic mindset?

“Yes, I am quite certain that we are all respectively fucked!”

SWALLOW THE SUN, the Finnish atmospheric doom/death metal outfit from Finland, has released the following statement:

“Unfortunately, [drummer] Kai [Hahto] is unable to do ‘The Morning Never Came’ anniversary gigs this fall, but on short notice we managed to get hold of a fantastic drummer, Juuso Raatikainen, to fill Kai‘s giant shoes for these shows. Kai will be back on his throne for the 70000 Tons Of Metal and Mexican shows.”

SWALLOW THE SUN‘s upcoming tour celebrates the tenth anniversary of the band’s first studio album, “The Morning Never Came”, originally released back in 2003, and now available via Spinefarm.

Support on the trek will be provided by ambient rock band ANTIMATTER (United Kingdom) and gothic metallers THE FORESHADOWING (Italy).

SWALLOW THE SUN‘s fifth full-length album, “Emerald Forest And The Blackbird”, entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 2. Released on February 1, 2012 via Spinefarm Records, the CD was recorded during September and October 2011 by Mikko Karmila (NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, CHILDREN OF BODOM) at Drumforest Studios in Viitasaari and Sonic Pump 2 in Helsinki, and by Hannu Honkonen at Noisework Studios in Helsinki. The effort was mixed by Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, APOCALYPTICA, AMORPHIS, MOONSPELL) and was mastered by Mika Jussila (NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, SENTENCED) at Finnvox Studios. The artwork was once again created by Rami Mursula.
