On September 27, RockNLive.org conducted an interview with ’80s hard rock queen Lita Ford. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Lita Ford will release a new live album, “The Bitch Is Back…Live”, on November 5 in North America, on October 25 in Germany and on October 28 in the rest of Europe through SPV/Steamhammer. The disc features a recording of Lita‘s October 2012 performance at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California.

The album will be released as a digipak with a special booklet including fan photos and download.

Where does the title come from? Lita opens the show with her rendition of the classic Elton John track “The Bitch is Back”, which was previously released as a bonus track on “Living Like A Runaway”.

“Well, I heard [the original version of the song] on the radio and I just thought it worked for Elton John, and it works for Lita Ford,” Lita explained to Metal-Rules.com when asked how she came to cover the track. “It kind of makes a statement, saying, ‘She’s back,’ and this is me saying this, not anybody else, you know?! It came from me, and I spoke to Elton John backstage before we released the album and I wanted his blessing. I didn’t want to just take his song and do it because I’ve done my own version of it. It’s more guitar-orientated instead of piano. So I said to him we’re doing ‘The Bitch Is Back’ and we gave him a copy of it, and his tour manager wrote back and said, ‘It’s one rocking version.’ But I went backstage because he came through town and I went backstage and said, ‘Hello!’ and he said, ‘That’s my song,’ you know, ‘That’s my song,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it is your song,’ and I said, ‘Thank you for letting me do it,’ and he said, ‘Thank you for doing my song.’ So I thought, ‘Right on, I got his blessing.’”

“The Bitch Is Back…Live” track listing:

01. The Bitch Is Back
02. Hungry
03. Relentless
04. Living Like A Runaway
05. Devil In My Head
06. Back To The Cave
07. Can’t Catch Me
08. Out For Blood
09. Dancing On The Edge
10. Hate
11. Close My Eyes Forever
12. Kiss Me Deadly

Ford has recruited Bobby Rock (VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, NELSON) to sit behind the kit for her shows in Australia, Europe and the U.S., as well as the recent Monsters Of Rock cruise in the Bahamas.

Lita‘s touring drummer for much of 2012 was Scot Coogan, who has previously played with BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, ACE FREHLEY and LYNCH MOB.

Lita‘s current touring lineup:

* Lita Ford – Guitar, Vocals
* Mitch Perry (MSG, ASIA, EDGAR WINTER) – Guitar
* Bobby Rock (VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, NELSON) – Drums
* Marty O’Brien (WE ARE THE FALLEN, TOMMY LEE, STATIC-X, DISTURBED) – Bass

Lita last year filmed a video for the song “Mother” in Joshua Tree, California. Directing the clip was Ford‘s former THE RUNAWAYS bandmate Victory Tischler-Blue, whose film “Edgeplay” was based on her tenure in the 1970s all-girl teenage rock act. “Mother” is dedicated to Lita‘s estranged sons, Rocco and James (father is former NITRO singer Jim Gillette).

Ford‘s latest album, “Living Like A Runaway”, was released on June 19, 2012 in North America. The effort was made available in four configurations: a double LP, limited-edition CD, standard CD and digital download. The artwork for the album was created by famed rock photographer Mark Weiss.

Metal Kaoz recently conducted an interview with former EXODUS and LEGACY (pre-TESTAMENT) and current HATRIOT frontman Steve “Zetro” Souza. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

HATRIOT has entered the studio to begin recording its sophomore album, “Dawn Of The New Centurion”, for a February 2014 release via Massacre Records. The follow-up to 2013′s “Heroes Of Origin” is once again being helmed by producer producer Juan Urteaga, who has previously worked with MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS and TESTAMENT, among others.

“Over the past year, HATRIOT has grown tighter as a band, and the songs on the new record will reflect that,” said Souza. “The songs are longer and more melodic, while keeping the classic thrash metal feel that we are known for.

‘Heroes Of Origin’ was our ‘Kill ‘Em All’, and ‘Dawn Of The New Centurion’ is our ‘Ride The Lightning’.”

The first single from “Dawn Of The New Centurion” will be “The Fear Within”.

HATRIOT will be touring Europe in November and December of 2013, and plans on including some new material into its live set.

HATRIOT filmed a video for the song “And Your Children To Be Damned” on March 10 at Arlene Francis Center in Santa Rosa, California. The clip was directed by Mike Sloat, who has previously worked with MACHINE HEAD and TESTAMENT.

“And Your Children To Be Damned” was written about Countess Bathory, a countess from the renowned Báthory family of nobility in the Kingdom of Hungary, who has been labeled the most prolific female serial killer in history, although the number of murders is debated.

HATRIOT‘s drummer is none other than Steve‘s son, Nicholas Souza. Nicholas auditioned for the band after the departure of Alex Bent and “proved himself to be the best choice,” according to Steve.

HATRIOT‘s lineup also includes Zetro‘s son Cody, who got his first bass as a present from his father after Zetro bought it off current EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson. “I told him,” Zetro said in a recent interview with Metalholic.com, “‘You have to try out [for the bassist position in HATRIOT if you want to be in the band]. There’s no nepotism here, boy. If you can hang, you’re on.’ So he actually tried out, and he got the gig.”

Regarding HATRIOT‘s musical direction, Zetro said, “It’s in the vein of typical Bay Area thrash, but these guys are a lot younger, so there’s gonna be some blast-beats in there. There’s gonna be some kind of death [metal] approach to it, a little bit. ‘Cause these guys are new. They’re raw, and they’re fast, young, heavy, hard and aggressive, and I’m trying to convey that along as well.”

He added, “These new kids seem to understand what we did in the ’80s, but still bring a little bit of a new essence to it. We put that together with what I write vocally and it’s turned out to be really, really killer. It’s good stuff.”

The official web site of the NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen has uploaded a 30-minute audio interview with Holopainen as the first installment of the site’s “Campfire Sessions”. You can now listen to the chat at this location. It is also available for streaming below.

NIGHTWISH‘s August 3 performance at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany was professionally filmed for a concert DVD and Blu-ray, tentatively due before the end of the year.

In a recent interview with Ghost Cult Magazine, former AFTER FOREVER frontwoman and current REVAMP singer Floor Jansen — who has been performing with NIGHTWISH since last October — was asked if she would be willing to front NIGHTWISH permanently if she were asked to fill the slot.

“I’ve been asked to fill in for the current world tour and for a couple of festival dates, but what will happen after that is still unclear,” she replied. “NIGHTWISH will take a break after the current touring cycle and they’ll make a decision next year. Until then, everything is still up in the air.”

She continued: “If they would ask me, I would be very flattered and I would love to do it. It will be a major overhaul in my life and my career as a singer, but then again, we’re not rushing things.

“Both the guys in NIGHTWISH and I have experiences with previous band breakups and all emotions that come with it. It’s almost like dating. Things feel good and it’s going well, but we’re not in a rush to tie the knot, so to speak.”

Regarding how she looks back on her experiences as a stand-in singer for NIGHTWISH so far, Jansen said: “It’s still too early for me to really reflect on the whole NIGHTWISH adventure, because there are still a couple of tour dates pending, including some summer festivals.

“What can I say? It’s an incredible ride and it feels really good. Things went really well from day one. The timing was really awkward, because Annette Olzon just left the band and there wasn’t really time to rehearse with the other NIGHTWISH members. Anxiety levels were running high, because replacing a female singer mid-tour is a hazardous experience, to say the least. They were running the gauntlet to make sure that none of the remaining tour dates had to be canceled. They were scared and so was I.

“Things went surprisingly well.

“It doesn’t matter where you perform, YouTube will be plastered with movies of the gig the next day, so I really gave it my all. Everyone in the band and crew were really supportive and all the positive reactions and the warm acceptance by the NIGHTWISH fanbase was beyond my wildest dreams.

“Some people would rather see someone else fronting the band, but you can’t please everyone.”

Jansen made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band’s lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon.

Holopainen has known Jansen for more than 10 years already, having previously toured with her former band, AFTER FOREVER.

Asked about the reasons for Olzon‘s sudden exit from the group, Tuomas told U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine: “I’m sure it came as a shock to everybody. We came out with a statement [regarding the split], which pretty much says it all. It still is a private matter, and that’s all we wanna say about it, like, ever. It was an amicable divorce, so to say, and made in good spirit, and we are just looking to the future. There really is no reason to go back into all the details and all that. I mean, this is not politics, this is a rock band.”

Regarding whether there is a chance that Floor will become the official new NIGHTWISH lead singer, Tuomas said: “The way that we have decided is that we’re gonna continue with her until the end of the festival season in 2013 — just have fun, just do the shows the best we can. I mean, the atmosphere in the band is so good at the moment, [we want to] just enjoy this what we have right now. They try not to think about NIGHTWISH at all for a few months. Everybody take a little vacation. And we already have the rehearsal place for the next album booked in 2014 — from July to September. So that’s how far we have planned. But when we do the last festival show next August, after that, it’s gonna be total nothing for a few months. So I would say everything is possible, but that’s really not the thing that we want to be thinking about right now, because there’s absolutely no reason to.”

On August 9, Felicity Hall of GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL at the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Derbyshire, United Kingdom. You can now listen to the chat below. Also available is professionally filmed video footage of DARK FUNERAL‘s entire set.

DARK FUNERAL celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013 with a number of festival appearances all over Europe. At the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, the band played a never-seen-before exclusive setlist. This very setlist comprised the legendary debut MCD from 1994 (including “Open The Gates”) and the entire classic “The Secrets Of The Black Arts” album from beginning to end — crowned by a special pyro show. The event was also a tribute to the founding DARK FUNERAL member David “Blackmoon” Parland, who died earlier this year. Blackmoon left DARK FUNERAL in 1996 after the release of “The Secrets Of The Black Arts”, but will always remain an import part of DARK FUNERAL‘s legacy.

DARK FUNERAL‘s Graspop Metal Meeting setlist:

01. Open The Gates
02. Shadows Over Transylvania
03. My Dark Desires
04. In The Sign Of The Horns
05. The Secrets Of The Black Arts
06. The Dawn No More Rises
07. When Angels Forever Die
08. The Fire Eternal
09. Satan’s Mayhem
10. Bloodfrozen
11. Dark Are The Paths To Eternity

A new DARK FUNERAL album is in the works and is planned for an early 2014 release. The band is also currently looking for a permanent new vocalist — preferably someone based in Scandinavia. Serious applications can be sent to vocalist@darkfuneral.se.

After an extensive and exhausting tour through Asia and Australia in late 2012, DARK FUNERAL parted ways with vocalist Nachtgarm.

Regarding the album title and the cover artwork, which was designed by drummer Van Williams, Van states: “We discussed a few ideas, but once we had developed the band logo, it felt right to use it as the introduction to the band along with the name as the focal point for our first album. The artwork, for me, reflects where each of us has been and how we are coming together from our pasts in this new endeavour.”

ASHES OF ARES is:

Matthew Barlow – Vocals
Freddie Vidales – Guitar/Bass
Van Williams – Drums
Gio Geraca – Guitar (session/touring member only)
Dean Sternberg – Bass (session/touring member only)

ASHES OF ARES is a band which represents the culmination of experiences, trials and tribulations of its founding members. Within months of their departures from the iconic metal bands ICED EARTH and NEVERMORE, the trio came together with a renewed drive to create a sound which is a true collaboration of their personal influences, ideas and visions. Armed with the knowledge acquired through years of the writing, touring and recording cycle, and with the support of an army of loyal fans across the globe, ASHES OF ARES is poised to carve out a new legacy and stand alongside those who have helped pave the way.

In an October 2012 interview with Rocket Queen Promotion, Barlow stated about ASHES OF ARES‘ musical direction: “Well, most folks know what to expect from me, from my work with ICED EARTH and PYRAMAZE. So you take some of that and mix it with Van‘s brand of cadence and Freddie‘s riffage… blam-o….it’s ASHES OF ARES!!! It’s just straight-up heavy metal!”

Regarding the band’s future plans, Barlow said: “The reason we are all doing this is for the love of music. We are metal guys and this is what we do. ASHES OF ARES live shows will be limited, but there will be live shows for fans, friends, and family to come to and enjoy with us. We really just want to create music that we enjoy and have that translate to our listeners.”

ASHES OF ARES made its live debut on May 17 at the Rock Hard Festival at Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
