We chat to south coast metalcore mavericks Bury Tomorrow in our spectacular new issue, out now, and because we’re lovely to you lot, we thought we’d give you a look at what the guys had to say about coming back from the brink and getting to open up the main stage at Reading And Leeds this year.

“We’d had issues with our management to the point where we decided that we’d be better off without them,” explains bassist Davyd Winter-Bates of the difficulties the guys were experiencing back in 2011. “We took the lead and parted ways, and it just all went to shit.”

“We felt that we were being made into something that we didn’t want to be,” adds singer and Dav’s bro, Dani. “It put a lot of strain into the direction that we wanted to go. We wanted to be a very English metal band. Obviously, we have no disrespect for the American bands out there doing their thing – that’s what sells and that’s awesome – but we wanted to take a different route.”

Take it they did, and the result is that, just over two years later, they’re opening up Reading and Leeds on the main stage! Not fucking bad, right?!

“Playing Reading and Leeds is a dream for us,” says Dani. “We thought we’d be on the Lock Up stage, which would still be huge for us, but then we got an email saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we put you guys on main stage?’ Four days later, they told us that we were doing it!”

“When you start a band, you have a dream,” adds Dav. “Our dream was to make fans, write the music that we wanted and maybe get to play festivals. Now we’ve got that opportunity, we need to find new dreams! If you become a band, get to a certain level and then drop off…90 per cent of bands that get to that point will never get the chance to rise again. Well, we’ve risen again.”

Bury Tomorrow play Reading and Leeds in August and hit the following venues this Autumn on their UK tour:

Sep 26 Southampton Mo Club
Sep 27 Bristol The Fleece
Sep 28 Birmingham O2 Academy2
Sep 29 Manchester Academy 3
Sep 30 Newcastle O2 Academy2
Oct 1 Glasgow Garage
Oct 2 Nottingham Rescue Rooms
Oct 3 Norwich Waterfront
Oct 4 London O2 Academy Islington

Support comes from Feed The Rhino, Heart In Hand and Empress. Not bad, eh?

Download Festival 2013 is finally just around the corner, so we’re grabbing some of the biggest and best bands from this year’s lineup to throw some irreverent bollocks at. Not literally. That’d be insane. Today, we chat to Bury Tomorrow frontman Daniel Winter-Bates.

How many times have you been to Donington?

Unfortunately, I haven’t ever had the chance to go

How does it feel making your Download debut?

Unbelievable; it’s always a strange feeling first going to a festival to play. Especially a festival as massive as Download – stoked is an understatement.

What are you most looking forward to about playing this year?

I think the lineup this year is so perfect it has something for everyone, really. Also, I think we have waited long enough, so when we do play a fair amount of people could turn up!

Which bands on the bill are you most excited about?

Rammstein! That band have the best live set of all time so I am so stoked to see them smash it again this year.

What can we expect from your set?

Fast, high energy metal. We will be bringing our best set of songs to please everyone – plus we don’t take ourselves to seriously, so some crowd banter as well.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen at a festival?

I think bottling is my least favourite thing about festivals, to be honest. At the end of the day, every band has to have balls to get up and put on a show. That should be enough for people to respect that, or at least go and watch other bands. Bottling just shows a massive lack of respect, and I’m hugely against it.

If you could only pack five things to take with you, what would they be?

A portable hot tub for after the set, a quad bike to mish around on and watch all the bands, some toilet roll, haha, a go pro camera to capture all the madness, and my own toilet seat. I have a big bag, hahaha!

Download 2013 takes place June 14-16. Grab your tickets now

Death metal legends Incantation will lay waste to Los Angeles this weekend when they join Autopsy, Acheron, HOD, Divine Eve and many others at the Gathering of the Bestial Legion V on Saturday, January 14th at The Echoplex on 1154 Glendale Blvd. Doors open at 4:00 PM, and for more information, contact the show’s website. Along with the new Incantation material, Kyle Severn has also finished up with his first foray into the cinema realm with a new horror/slasher movie called “After Party Massacre.” Co-written/co-directed with Kristoff Bates, this slasher starts with live performances by Incantation and Soulless, which then takes a deadly turn after the bands are finished as this unrated movie is filled with blood, scantly clad female flesh and lots of death metal!

Michigan black metal act Winterus has announced its new band lineup, which will embark on the headlining “Lone Wolves Tour” in June. After the recent departure of guitarist Nathan Barnes (guitar) and Cody McCoy (drums), guitarist Les Paul and drummer Kollin Perpignani have been added to the mix, along with bassist Donovan Bates, to round out new Winterus lineup.

“As bands grow, you find people that really get what you are trying to do,” said vocalist Christopher Erich Neu. “Things are only getting tighter.”

“We all have the same mind set, the same mission, the same goal,” added new bassist Donovan Bates.

You can check out a recent interview with Winterus about the new album “In Carbon Mysticism” at this location, or head over here to watch the music video for “Harmonious.”
