PitCam TV conducted an interview with vocalist Dani “Filth” Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH during the band’s European co-headlining tour with. You can now watch the chat below.

Guitarists Paul Allender and James McIlroy both sat out CRADLE OF FILTH‘s European tour with BEHEMOTH due to “hugely important family matters” and “serious neck surgery,” respectively. Filling in for them were Ashok of Czech groups ROOT and INNER FEAR and Richard Shaw of English acts EMPEROR CHUNG and NG26.

2014 marks the 20th anniversary of “The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh”, the historic debut album from CRADLE OF FILTH on Cacophonous Records. To honor this momentous occasion, CRADLE OF FILTH is planning a whole smorgasbord of exciting stuff, including the first-ever CRADLE OF FILTH comic, the release of a career-spanning double disc best-of, and, of course, the subsequent touring.

CRADLE OF FILTH‘s tenth studio album, “The Manticore And Other Horrors”, sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 96 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band’s previous full-length effort, “Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa”, opened with 5,800 units in November 2010 to land at No. 99.

Painting with blood seems to be all the rage nowadays. We've profiled the premiere blood-painter, Vincent Castiglia previously but now Behemoth is getting in on the blood art game. Frontman Nergal revealed recently that the cover of the band's forthcoming album, The Satanist will be painted with his blood.  Speaking to Australia's Heavy magazine, Nergal said of the painting: "I …

Tennille Secomb of Australia’s Heavy magazine recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Adam “Nergal” Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the artwork for BEHEMOTH‘s new album, “The Satanist”, which will contain Nergal‘s own blood blended into a painting by Russian symbolist painter Denis Forkas to give it “a more organic feel”:

Nergal: “I wanted to incorporate some of my DNA into the art. This album seems to be so defining of who we are now as people and as individuals, and considering all the instances in recent years, [we wanted] to make it more ‘ours’ than it is usually.

“[The cover is] very arty; it’s very artistic and it really has no heavy metal clichés in it. Expect something very special and spectacular, and deeper than all of the other products that are in the market.”

On producer Colin Richardson quitting “The Satanist” mixing process afer four weeks following creative differences and being replaced by Matt Hyde (SLAYER, HATEBREED, CHILDREN OF BODOM):

Nergal: “We just couldn’t agree [with Colin] on certain concepts and visions of what the record should sound like. [Colin] did a great job actually — but Matt was always supposed to be the main mixing guy for the record. Within a week or two weeks with Matt, I had the whole record mixed and believe me, it’s the best-sounding BEHEMOTH record for sure. It’s very organic, it’s very different — I love it.”

On being diagnosed with and overcoming leukaemia in 2010:

Nergal: “I have always been ahead of others, so to speak. I’m very much into hard work and being motivated, and I’m more than ever like that. It’s the conscience that life is just a temporary thing — it has taught me to appreciate life more than anything else, you know. I am a fucking life-worshipping motherfucker.

“All of the so-called negatives that have happened in my life recently — I turn them into positives and advantages. This album pretty much just wrote itself [because] we just went with what naturally came out from our systems — we clean out all the filth and dirt, and it just materializes in song structures. Usually we try to force ourselves to cross certain boundaries and certain limitations. But unlike all the other albums, with ‘The Satanist’, we stopped doing that.”

On “The Satanist” album title:

Nergal: “One of the reasons I thought it was the perfect title for a BEHEMOTH record is because I am tired of talking. It’s more than enough what you see and what you hear, really. Let people contemplate and come up with their own interpretations. Fuck your brain a bit and stimulate it.”

Sofia Metal Chick conducted an interview with Adam “Nergal” Darski of Polish extreme metal veterans BEHEMOTH on August 9 at the Getaway Rock festival in Gävle, Sweden. You can now watch the chat below. Also available is fan-filmed video footage of the band performing a brand new song, “Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel”, at the event.

“Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel”, which was previously described by Darski as “killer” and “a monster,” will be included on the band’s tenth full-length album, “The Satanist”, due in early 2014 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Blade in North America. The CD was recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include “Messe Noir” (French for “The Black Mass”) and “Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer” (Latin for “Pray For Us, Lucifer”).

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH‘s new songs as “very atmospheric” and “very emotional.” “Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE,” he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn’t expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH‘s past efforts. “Take SLAYER, for example,” Darski said. “Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH.”

According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. “When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that it’s coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It’s 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I’m writing nowadays. I’m way more radical than I used to be.”
