On March 14, Project Alpha TV conducted an interview with vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid of Swedish metallers SOILWORK at this year’s Hammerfest, which was held at Hafan y Mor Holiday Park, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire, Wales. You can now watch the chat below.

As previously reported, Dutch singer Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP) joined SOILWORK on stage last night (Friday, March 21) at Circus in Helsinki, Finland. The concert was filmed for SOILWORK‘s first-ever live DVD, to be released later in the year.

The choice of location for the shoot of the first-ever SOILWORK audiovisual live document was an easy one since Helsinki has always been a second home to the band. The venue itself, Circus, was just the right one to offer a full-on SOILWORK show.

The show marked SOILWORK‘s only Scandinavian show of the spring.

The DVD is being produced by Jouni Markkanen and directed by Ville Lipiäinen, who also helmed the most recent NIGHTWISH DVD, “Showtime, Storytime”.

SOILWORK‘s ninth studio and first dual-disc album, “The Living Infinite”, sold around 7,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 60. The effort also landed at No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 2 on the Hard Music chart. “The Living Infinite” entered the iTunes Metal Top Albums chart at No. 1 and was the No. 1 most added album on the CMJ radio chart.

“The Living Infinite” was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) and boasts artwork by MNEMIC‘s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie. The CD features Justin Sullivan — lead singer of the English band NEW MODEL ARMY — as a guest vocalist on the track “The Windswept Mercy” and also marks the recording debut of longtime SOILWORK touring guitarist David Andersson (also of THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA).

The New York-based Ballet Deviare, led by dancer/choreographer Laura Kowalewski, created a routine to accompany DREAM THEATER‘s instrumental “Enigma Machine”, from the band’s latest, self-titled album. The clip was directed by Katia Spivakova and produced by Derec Dunn; the dancers are Michelle Joy, Lara Koffskey and Shannon Maynor.

Says choreographer Laura Kowalewski, who’s previously worked with DÅÅTH, ARSIS and CELESTIIAL: “When I was approached to choreograph a music video for DREAM THEATER, I was really excited. I have always admired their complex musical structure and phrasing.”

DREAM THEATER‘s latest, self-titled album (available for purchase here) sold around 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on September 24, 2013 via Roadrunner.

DREAM THEATER‘s “Along For The Ride” tour picked up on March 20 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada following the band’s European tour and then continues through the end of April where it will eventually wrap up in Guadalajara, Mexico on April 26.

DREAM THEATER‘s spirit of adventure and fearless musical virtuosity continues to reap dividends for the progressive metal titans who recently earned their second Grammy nomination, this time for “Best Metal Performance” for their single “The Enemy Inside” from their current self-titled album. The band — John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), James LaBrie (vocals), Jordan Rudess (keyboards & continuum) and Mike Mangini (drums) — received its first-ever Grammy nomination in 2012 for “On The Backs Of Angels” (from their “A Dramatic Turn Of Events” album) in the “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” category.

Session conducted an interview with former NEVERMORE and current CONQUERING DYSTOPIA guitarist Jeff Loomis at this year’s Musikmesse fair, which was held March 12-15 in Frankfurt, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

Loomis redesigned his main Schecter signature signature-series JL-7 black seven-string electric guitar for 2014. It includes increased access and playability, lighter weight, thinner neck, Hipshot hardtail and new tones from the EMG 57/66 set.

CONQUERING DYSTOPIA is the project featuring Jeff Loomis and Portland, Oregon studio musician Keith Merrow. The group’s self-titled debut album was mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with Mark Lewis (ARSIS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER).

The recording lineup for “Conquering Dystopia” is completed by Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE) on bass and Alex Rudinger (THE FACELESS) on drums.

Loomis previously contributed a guest guitar solo to Keith‘s second full-length instrumental album, “Awaken The Stone King”, which came out in January 2011.

The special tour edition of Loomis‘ latest album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, was released on April 16, 2013 via Century Media Records.

“Plains Of Oblivion – Tour Edition” features three bonus tracks, in addition to the original “Plains Of Oblivion” disc that was released in 2012.

Loomis‘s second solo album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, sold 2,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 179 on The Billboard 200 chart. The effort landed at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Plains Of Oblivion” was released on April 10, 2012 in North America (one day earlier in Europe) via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES) and features cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design, who has previously worked with ALL SHALL PERISH, THE END and XERATH.

Loomis and drummer Van Williams announced their departure from NEVERMORE in April 2011 due to personal differences with singer Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. Their replacements have not yet been announced.

The official video for FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s surprising cover of the classic folk song “The House Of The Rising Sun” will make its online debut on Monday, March 24. The song is the next single from the Las Vegas-based band’s recently released album, “The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2”. The disc came out on November 19, 2013 and is the second half of a two-record set, with “Volume 1” coming out in July 2013.

A teaser for the “gasoline and rocket-fuel-soaked” “The House Of The Rising Sun” video — which was filmed in the desert — can be seen below..

According to The Pulse Of Radio, the original author of “The House Of The Rising Sun” is unknown and the song’s roots may date back to the 16th century.

The oldest known existing recording is by Appalachian artists Clarence “Tom” Ashley and Gwen Foster, who recorded it for Vocalion Records in 1934.

The most successful commercial version was recorded by the English rock group THE ANIMALS in 1964, which was a No. 1 hit in the U.K., the U.S., Sweden, Finland and Canada.

The members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH discussed in a recently released video clip how they changed up the classic song to give it a hard-rock vibe, most notably, by switching the song’s time signature from 6/8 to 4/4.

“We had the idea to do this for a while,” explained guitarist Zoltan Bathory. “The interesting thing about this song is that [it’s] actually in a time signature of 6/8 which is a waltz… and rock music and waltz doesn’t necessarily mix right.”

He continued: “So basically the challenge was: ‘How do we make this song work? How do we take away that goofy vibe and how do we make it into a rock structure?'”

“The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2” sold 77,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The first half of “The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart, selling 113,000 copies in its first week of release.

“The Paradigm Shift” is the first KORN disc to feature guitarist Brian “Head” Welch since 2003’s “Take A Look In The Mirror” and follows up 2011’s dubstep experiment, “The Path Of Totality”.

Welch told Rolling Stone that the new album has “the old KORN vibe, but with a new twist . . . The end product is a really good mix of old KORN mixed with some new elements. It’s got a fresh new KORN 2013 sound.”

Welch left KORN in 2005 after he converted to Christianity and got off drugs. He rejoined them for a handful of live performances in 2012 before officially becoming part of the lineup again in early 2013.
