British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST have completed work on their brand new studio album, to be released later in the year.

Speaking to Artisan News at last night’s (Monday, March 17) VIP listening party for the Ronnie James Dio tribute album “This Is Your Life” and awards gala at the Avalon in Hollywood, California, JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford stated about the band’s new CD (see video below): “The record is finished; it’s absolutely finished as of today.” He added: “It’s a relief. It’s a relief because whenever PRIEST makes an album, like any band, you put your heart and soul into it; it is that typical ‘blood, sweat and tears.’ It’s not an easy thing to do 40 years later. But PRIEST has always been up for the challenge of that, and it’s one of things that we love to do more than anything else as we move on through our metal years. So this is a great time for PRIEST: 40th anniversary, a brand new record. Life couldn’t be better.”

In a 2013 interview with Billboard.com, Halford described the new PRIEST CD’s sound as “hard. It’s heavy. It’s something we think our PRIEST fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about JUDAS PRIEST — I don’t think I can say anything more than that without being hung, drawn and quartered.”

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network‘s Dave Basner, Halford said about what fans can expect from JUDAS PRIEST‘s next LP: “We felt it was very important to follow up [2008’s] ‘Nostradamus’, the last release, and that was a concept experiment and it was a real success for us and the fans loved it, but I think our fans and ourselves as a band, we want to get back to the side of PRIEST that we haven’t heard for a few years and reemphasize and remake those big, heavy metal statements again.”

PRIEST‘s next album will mark the band’s first release with Richie Faulkner, most recently guitarist in the backing band for Lauren Harris (daughter of IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris).

Faulkner joined PRIEST as the replacement for original PRIEST guitarist Kenneth “K.K.” Downing, who announced his retirement from the band in April 2011.

Asked how it has been collaborating on new music with Faulkner, Halford told Guitar World in a 2012 interview: “Really, really strong. Exciting. He’s riffing and saying, ‘Robby, I’m thinking of this and this and this.’ It’s really exciting to have that kind of energy, because you feed off of it.”

He added: “[Richie] went through the ritual on [the ‘Epitaph’] tour, did great work on stage, the fans embraced him, so it’s now time to see what we’re capable of, the writing trio of Glenn [Tipton] and Richie and myself.”

Regarding whether technology has changed JUDAS PRIEST‘s songwriting process at all, Halford said: “It’s dangerous to walk around with a flash drive on a bunch of keys. [Laughs] To a great extent, it doesn’t really change. The technology is amazing in terms of the advantages it brings to music now, some of it good, some of it very bad. It’s all about discipline and self-belief, determination, wanting to do the best you can do and not accepting anything that’s below par. We’ve always had that attitude in PRIEST. We’ve always felt really strongly about any track that goes out for our fans. We’re still doing it like we always have: firing up the riffs and finding a vocal melody to go with it, me going into me wonderful world of the Roget’s Thesaurus and trying to come up with a new lyric and a new idea. And that’s what we’ve been doing for four decades.”

One of the U.K.’s finest exponents of traditional metal, PRIMITAI has released the video for its new single, “Scream When You See Us”. The track, which features a guest appearance by JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner, is described in a press release as “a powerful blast of melodic metal but one that never loses sight of the rich heritage of bands like PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN and having the dextrous six string skills of Faulkner adds a whole new level of intensity.”

“Scream When You See Us” comes off PRIMITAI‘s new album, “Rise Again”, which will be released on October 14.

The debut single from the album, entitled “Fortune Favours The Brave”, was made available on July 31. The track is described in a press release as “a fist-in-the-air, intense slice of no-holds-barred heavy metal.”

Comments PRIMITAI drummer Chris Chilcott: “Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (DREAM EVIL, ARCH ENEMY, SABATON, IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL, FIREWIND) at Studio Fredman, Gothenburg, Sweden, and recorded by Tom Keech at Stakeout Studios, London, this album represents a year’s worth of blood, sweat and tears. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved with our latest creation and can’t wait for you guys to hear it.”

PRIMITAI recently announced the addition of guitarist Tom Draper to the group’s ranks. He replaces founding member Nick Saxby, who left the band earlier this year. Tom‘s arrival has added a fresh impetus to proceedings as well as, alongside Srdjan Bilic, some inspired guitar work.

Ben Orum of All Shall Perish has checked in with the following announcement about leaving the band and joining Oblivion:

“I have given over 10 years of my blood, sweat, and tears to pursuing my dream which you all have helped fulfill. Being in All Shall Perish has been the best experience in my life, outside of being a father. While I am deeply saddened by my decision to leave the band it is necessary at this point in my life. As you know I have a family and obligation to provide for them and be here. Unfortunately, I could not fulfill my duty as a touring musician any longer.

“While I am done with touring, I will never stop writing music. I am joining the extreme metal band Oblivion as a bassist and contributing songwriter. Oblivion’s debut album will be released on January 1st, 2013. We are beyond excited to unleash it onto the metal world. I’ve always been into death metal and extreme music, this is my return to TRUE Death Metal. What makes Oblivion unique and sets us apart from the pack is the fact that our primary songwriter is a world-renown classical composer and professor of music, Dr. Nick Vasallo. His voice gives the music a subtle refinement with the craftsmanship of the compositions.

“I’ve known Nick since high school and we were in our first band together-Antagony. Nick went on to college and became a classical composer. I went on to a successful career as a touring musician/songwriter in ASP. Now, 10 years later we are working together again. It’s a full circle. While Oblivion were recording their album, Nick injured his thumb and was unable to finish his tracks, which has delayed the album recording. On top of that, he has accepted an appointment as a tenure-track professor at a prestigious university and won’t be able to juggle all the hats of singing, composing, and playing bass for Oblivion. So that’s where I come in–I’ll be fulfilling his duties as a bassist.

“We also have another Dr. in the making, our guitarist Victor Dods is finishing his PhD in Math. The other guitarist, Ted O’Neil, is a veteran from the original thrash scene in 80′s, and our drummer, Luis Martinez, is a natural phenom. All of this plus me, makes us a huge force to be reckoned with. Stay tuned for the heaviest and darkest music out there. We are Oblivion.”

The new Oblivion album “Called To Rise” is also available for pre-order via Bandcamp here.

New York tech metal contortionists Car Bomb will take their instrumental acrobatics to the stages of Brooklyn this holiday weekend. The festivities commence with an unofficial CD release party at the Knitting Factory on November 24th. On the following night the band will ravage the stage of Saint Vitus alongside New York death metal titans Suffocation. Additionally, the band will appear at The Studio at Webster Hall in Manhattan for a pre-New Years blowout with Resolution15.

This weekend’s shows mark the first performances for the Long Island natives since Hurricane Sandy destroyed their studio located at The South Sound music complex new the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn.

Said the band in a collective statement: “We are deeply saddened not only by our own losses but the losses incurred by all of our friends at The South Sound. The total destruction that occurred at The South Sound was both devastating and incomprehensible. Gear that had taken a lifetime to acquire was destroyed in a matter of hours. As tragic as the events of Hurricane Sandy were, we were relieved to learn that no one affiliated with The South Sound was injured and that the losses were simply financial — along with some blood, sweat, and tears on the part of the guys running the place. We know how much time and effort those guys put into making The South Sound a great place for musicians to do their thing and we truly feel for their loss. This Thanksgiving, CAR BOMB is thankful that we all survived the events of Hurricane Sandy, as did our family and our friends. Everything else is replaceable.”

Solid State Records is excited to announce the latest addition to its roster of artists: Pennsylvania metallers My Heart To Fear, which is wasting no time in announcing the November 20th release of debut EP, “Lost Between Brilliance and Insanity.” Solid State Records commented:

“The EP follows up several DIY releases that showcased the band’s penchant for technical riffs, swaggering vocals and sky-high choruses, elements that helped them build the fervent fanbase that supports them today.

“The Williamsport, PA-based act hails from the same geographic region and musical circles that spawned a number of metalcore successes in recent years – most notably genre giants August Burns Red, in addition to the likes of Texas In July (Equal Vision) and This Or The Apocalypse (eOne Entertainment). While a less confident band may look to steal a page or two out of those artists’ playbooks, My Heart To Fear are intent on forging their own sound.”

“When we write music we don’t stick to any one formula,” explains vocalist Trevor Pool. “We don’t write to please a certain group of people or to fit into specific genres. Nor do we sit down with a preconceived idea of what a song should or should not sound like. Instead we allow the music itself to reveal subconscious and spiritual paths. Rather than deriving inspiration solely from music, we find influence in the world around us and aim to transpose these non-musical entities into the musical aspects of a song.”

“Signing with Solid State is a huge step for us,” says Pool. “It is almost surreal to look back at all of the literal blood, sweat, and tears of our journey and to wonder what we would have thought at each phase if we could have seen, just for a moment, where we are now. We love the family-centered mentality of the Solid State staff and artists and hope to strengthen the family in whatever way possible!”

“We want to encourage everyone to not just shoot for their dreams, but to fight relentlessly for them,” Pool goes on to say. “We could not have made it this far in our journey without the endless support of those around us.”
