Reality Check TV conducted an interview with vocalist Brittany Paige and guitarist Jasio Kulakowski of Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based metallers KOBRA AND THE LOTUS on July 30 at the Roxy in West Hollywood, California. You can now watch the chat below.

The self-titled album from KOBRA AND THE LOTUS was released in the U.S. on April 16 via Simmons Records/T-Boy Records/Universal Music Enterprises (UMe).

Formed in 2009 by powerhouse vocalist Brittany “Kobra” Paige, KOBRA AND THE LOTUS has been more than busy touring Canada and Europe extensively with ball-busting hard work and intensity that secured coveted slots at Hellfest, Wacken Open Air, Download and Bloodstock in 2012.

The life of Brittany Paige and KOBRA AND THE LOTUS will be chronicled for the show “Rock City”, airing on Spike TV this fall. The eight-episode season will follow the grit, drama, and thrills, both on the road and off, as this emerging metal band takes to the road on its world tour.

For KOBRA AND THE LOTUS‘ self-titled release, producer Kevin Churko (ROB ZOMBIE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, OZZY OSBOURNE) was brought in to assist delivering precise songs heavy with emotion.

The band is co-signed to Gene Simmons‘ label, Simmons’ Records.

Art from agony: Blythe made movie during trial

Randy Blythe has released a short movie which he made during his manslaughter ordeal in the Czech Republic. View Prague: The Devil Is The Detail here.

After spending five weeks in a Czech prison last year, he was found not guilty of causing the death of fan Daniel Nosek at a Lamb Of God show in 2010. The legal fight cost over $500,000 and bankrupted the band.

Blythe says of the movie: “I wanted to release a slightly different version right before my judgement was rendered by the court – the very last shot in this version was not there until after I was pronounced innocent.

“My idea was to show my mindset through film and music during the process of my trial, and have a more ambiguous ending heading into my final day in court.

“I showed the clip to my lawyer and he advised against releasing it until after the trial was over, thinking the authorities might not understand what I was trying to say with the movie.

“It is all over now, so here is my poor attempt to try and create art in a time of great personal uncertainty.”

Lamb Of God delivered a slightly underwhelming set at Bloodstock earlier this month– but they’ll be back to set things right during a nine-date UK tour in January.

Lamb Of God: overcoming the odds?

Sometimes it is almost impossible to live up to the hype and expectation that surrounds certain gigs and tonight, unfortunately, Lamb Of God have the fates conspire against them, making their headline slot very much a case of “what if?”.

It certainly starts well enough, the anticipation of the band’s return to the UK after the trauma of the last year is sky high. When, through the lights and dry ice, steps Randy Blythe, the reaction from those in attendance is one of universal elation. Even the people here who aren’t familiar with the band’s material, and strangely enough there is a large proportion of curious bystanders present tonight, seem to have nothing but genuine goodwill for the man. As the opening to Desolation starts the set it seems that the band are keen to match the adulation with pure aggression and intensity. Unfortunately the sound doesn’t do LOG justice; the guitars are muddy, the vocals overpowering and it’s just plain too quiet.

It then goes from mildly annoying to potentially gig threatening as the front barriers collapse, ironically enough during Ruin. There is a monumental gap whilst the problem is sorted and unfortunately when the song restarts it has robbed the band of any momentum, the crowd have mellowed and, most surprisingly of all, Lamb Of God seem uncharacteristically sloppy.

It takes a good portion of the set before their game is raised back to anything near the level that you would expect from such an exceptional band, and, to be fair to them, when they sign off with Laid To Rest, Redneck and a brutal, scorching Black Label not many bands could touch them. Ultimately though, this is not the iconic moment that it promised to be. To coin a popular ad campaign; tonight, through no fault of their own, it’s good, but it’s not quite Lamb Of God.

Setlist

Desolation
Ghost Walking
Walk with Me in Hell
Set to Fail
Ruin
Now You’ve Got Something to Die For
11th Hour
The Undertow
Omerta
Contractor
Encore:
The Passing
In Your Words
Laid to Rest
Redneck

For the third year running Teenage Cancer Trust will be the official charity partner at Bloodstock 2013 this weekend!

Last year Bloodstock helped raise nearly £5,000 pounds for the charity, and it’s hoped that this year that barrier will be smashed.

There’s a ton of ways for punters to help raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust at this year’s festival, including a raffle to win the chance to watch Sunday night headliners Slayer close the festival from the side of the stage, getting your hands on a Yamaha BB424X bass worth £485 signed by none other than Lemmy from Motörhead and meeting Main Stage artists Fozzy and Anthrax, who’ll be hosting a meet and greet with two lucky winners.

To get involved, head over to the TCT tent at Bloodstock and help raise some wonga for some seriously worthy causes!

Bloodstock takes place this weekend (August 8-11) at Catton Hall, Derby, and features the likes of King Diamond, Lamb of God, Slayer, Anthrax, Gojira, DevilDriver and many more. Get your tickets now from bloodstock.uk.com.
