Motorhead will also headline our awards show on June 17!

We’re delighted to announce that as well as closing this year’s Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, British rock ‘n’ roll legends Motörhead will be receiving the most prestigious award of the night itself – The Golden God!

The Golden God award celebrates and recognises those who have significantly contributed, shaped and inspired the world of rock and metal – and few in our world fit that description more than Lemmy and the boys. They remain a true institution in British music history and follow in the footsteps of previous Golden God winners such as Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. Plus, they’ll be closing out the Biggest Party Of The Summer with a screamer of a gig, so you know it’s going to be spectacular.

“The first, the biggest, and the best – the Metal Hammer Golden Gods are the ultimate celebration of all things heavy. It’s a chance for us to hoist beers with the great and good of the metal community as well as the most important VIPs around – our readers. Part-gig, part-awards, and all metal, there’s simply no other event like it, and with the almighty Motörhead closing proceedings, this one’s set to be the loudest ever. Horns up!”

The Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2013 take place Monday June 17 at the London Indigo2 and features sets from Motörhead, Airbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, Coal Chamber and Paradise Lost, and will be streaming live for the first time ever via Playstation! Big.

Adam D and Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage

Guilty as charged: Leach with Adam D

Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach has admitted the first album he ever bought was by – wait for it – Phil Collins.

Fortunately that started him down the path that’s led to his reunion with KSE and the release of shit-hot new album Disarm The Descent.

In a British Music Experience masterclass – video below – Leach says: “I saved my allowance when I was seven to buy a Phil Collins record.”

But he adds: “When I was 15 years old, at my first show I got kicked in the head by a combat boot. That was my initiation into the world of punk. I was immediately like, ‘Yeah! This is for me!’”

In the clip bandmate Adam D describes how he’s like a monkey who dances on command and looks back to a time in his career when he was “wicked fat.”

Disarm The Descent, Killswitch’s sixth album, was released this week. It’s the first with Leach since 2002′s Alive Or Just Breathing.
