Satriani last month kicked of an extensive U.S. tour, and first-ever cross-Canada trek, supporting his new album, “Unstoppable Momentum”. The tour launched on August 29 in San Diego, California before crisscrossing its way across the U.S., in addition to a trans-Canadian tour where Satriani will be hitting many Canadian cities for the very first time. The North American tour will end with a show on October 26 in Oakland, California. Joining Satriani on the road are veteran bandmate Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai) on keyboards, along with an entirely new rhythm section, featuring bassist Bryan Beller (DETHKLOK, Dweezil Zappa) and drummer Marco Minnemann (Adrian Belew, Steve Wilson).

“Unstoppable Momentum”, Satriani‘s 14th studio album, was released on May 7. The CD debuted at No. 42 on The Billboard 200 chart, giving Satriani his highest chart position in over 20 years, and first single, “A Door Into Summer”, landed in the Top 10 on the Classic Rock radio chart.

Experimental metal act EPHEL DUATH will return with its first album in five years, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness”, on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.

A video trailer for the CD featuring album artwork created by visionary artists Dehn Sora and Aeron Alfrey can be seen below.

Ignited by commitment and passion, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” is a multi-layered hybrid of death metal, jazz and post rock, and a strong statement from a band never bounded by rules. With intuition set as the only significant parameter, EPHEL DUATH takes an uncompromising will to experiment, to a whole new level of intensity.

“This album holds together all that EPHEL DUATH‘s music has touched in the last fifteen years and pushes its boundaries even further,” comments EPHEL DUATH mainman Davide Tiso. “Lyrically, the new songs dig deep in higher self subject matters, combining brutally visual imagery with a painfully honest soul-searching quest.”

Featuring eight new songs and reaching over 50 minutes of total length, “Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” includes a unique line-up of: Marco Minnemann (KREATOR, NECROPHAGIST, JOE SATRIANI) behind the drums, Bryan Beller (DETHKLOK, JOE SATRIANI) on bass, lead singer Karyn Crisis (CRISIS) along with Tiso. The album was produced by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Studios in New York.

“Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” track listing:

01. Feathers Under My Skin
02. Tracing The Path Of Blood
03. When Mind Escapes Flesh
04. Within This Soil
05. Those Gates To Nothing
06. Through Flames I Shield
07. Hemmed By Light
08. Shaped by Darkness

“Hemmed By Light, Shaped By Darkness” will be available in digipack CD, double LP and digital formats.

The 6th full-length album from avant-garde metal band Ephel Duath will be released in spring 2013 via Agonia Records. The album title as well as album artwork have been set and will be revealed later this year.

The follow up to the “On Death and Cosmos” EP (reviewed here) will introduce a line-up change in the rhythmic section. All bass parts have already been recorded by Bryan Beller (Mike Keneally, Steve Vai, Dethklok, The Aristocrats, James La Brie, Dweezil Zappa) in replacement of Steve Di Giorgio. Marco Minnemann returns playing drums for Ephel Duath, which according to a press release “brings the creative relationship between drums and guitars to a dynamism never reached before by the band.”

“Ephel Duath’s new album is the musical statement I wish this band will be remembered for,” comments Davide Tiso (founder/guitarist). “All I’ve learned or not learned musically, all I’ve always wanted my lyrics to be, live and breathe in these eight new songs. This album holds together all that Ephel Duath’s music has touched in the last fifteen years and pushes its boundaries even further. I feel that a whole new expressive world is opening up to me and this band. My intent is to blindly follow this recent path and to bring Ephel Duath to higher and higher levels of intensity, riff after riff, song after song, with patience and obstinacy, an open heart and dedication.”

In January Ephel Duath will enter Mana Recording Studios is St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan to record guitars and vocals and to mix the album. At the moment the band is busy putting the last touches on what will be the final guitars and vocals tracks. The band’s current recording line-up is:

Karyn Crisis – vocals
Marco Minnemann – drums
Bryan Beller – bass
Davide Tiso – guitars
