“Fire On The Mountain”, the debut album from the heavy metal “supergroup” TWILIGHT OF THE GODS, is available for streaming in its entirety using the SoundCloud widget below. The CD will be released on September 27 in Europe and October 1 in North America via Season Of Mist.

TWILIGHT OF THE GODS is: Alan Averill (PRIMORDIAL, DEAD SOVEREIGN, BLOOD REVOLT) on vocals, Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR, ex-TESTAMENT, ex-EXODUS) on drums, guitarists Rune Eriksen (AURA NOIR, ex-AVA INFERI, ex-MAYHEM) and Patrik Lindgren (THYRFING), and Frode Glesnes (EINHERJER) on bass.

“Fire On The Mountain” track listing:

01. Destiny Forged In Blood
02. Children Of Cain
03. Fire On The Mountain (1683)
04. Preacher Man
05. Sword Of Damocles
06. The End Of History
07. At Dawn We Ride

The effort will be made available as a CD digipack and a limited-edition LP via the Season Of Mist e-shop.

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer magazine, Averill stated about “Fire On The Mountain”: “We grew up with and through most of our reference points. This is just what just came out when we play. We didn’t need to go, ‘We need to write songs that sound like MANOWAR,’ but we all love MANOWAR. There’s a fine line to walk between pastiche, parody and putting of the old gonzoid heavy metal charm into it, but not being too self-knowing in that sense.”

Asked if it was weird to switch over to singing classic metal lyrics, and finding out how he related to those lyrics, Averill said: “Definitely. The thing is that it’s full of the gonzoid heavy metal idioms — the swords and the steel and the blood and the fire. It was a difficult balance to find, to strike between being full of a certain glory and beauty and charm of old heavy metal, without it being too wink-wink, nod-nod, self-parody, but really genuinely meaning it because that’s what we all love, and treating it with the sort of kid gloves and respect that it deserves.”

He continued: “But yeah, it was difficult trying to find a different voice, another kind of lyric but at the same time, if you take, say, the title track, ‘Fire On The Mountain’, that’s my Dio tribute and it sounds like a RAINBOW songtitle. But yeah, the song is about the siege of Vienna by the Ottoman empire in 1683 where King Leopold I and the Holy Roman See defeated the Turks, and those, I think, had a lot to do with saving the European culture and the Enlightenment and all sorts of stuff. So if you were to actually look at it, you’d go, ‘Actually, there’s something being said here, but it’s written in heavy metal vernacular, which was handed down to us from IRON MAIDEN and whoever. But it’s a challenge, for sure, and it’s also a challenge to write a chorus that people could sing. You’re sitting there for the first time thinking, actually, how could I write this in such a way for people at a show or at a festival to get behind it, you know? It’s just a traditional, hard-rock structure, which is a breath of fresh air for all of us, because we’ve all, for the past 20 years, been playing extreme music and darker music to some degree, so it’s a bit like something fresh for all of us, despite the fact that it’s all old.”

On September 14, Groovey of Groovey.tv conducted an interview with Austin, Texas-based classic rockers SCORPION CHILD at the Snowboard On The Block festival in Denver, Colorado. You can now watch the chat below.

SCORPION CHILD‘s self-titled debut album sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 26 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Scorpion Child” was released on June 25 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the new U.S. partnership between Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner Records A&R chief Monte Conner. Produced and arranged by Chris “Frenchie” Smith (THE ANSWER, …AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD, THE TOADIES, DAX RIGGS), the CD was recorded using analog recording technology.

The limited CD digipack, vinyl, digital download versions of “Scorpion Child” include the following songs:

01. Kings Highway
02. Polygon Of Eyes
03. The Secret Spot
04. Salvation Slave
05. Liquor
06. Antioch
07. In The Arms Of Ecstasy
08. Paradigm
09. Red Blood (The River Flows)

Bonus track:

10. Keep Goin’ (LUCIFER’S FRIEND cover)
11. Lover’s Leap (iTunes version only!)

Attributes in music are known to be cyclical. Every few years, a band comes along which borrows just enough from the revered past to bring a new infusion of vitality to the musical present. SCORPION CHILD‘s sound invokes a time when guitar-driven rock ruled radio’s airwaves, when being hypnotized by a frontman and his bandmates in a concert arena was one of life’s ultimate main events.

SCORPION CHILD has spent the last few years perfecting both its songwriting and stage show. Guitarists Chris Cowart and David Finner deliver their finessed twin guitar attack with experience older than their years; bassist Shaun Avants and drummer Shawn Alvear are steadfast sentinels of their driving rhythm section; and lead singer Aryn Jonathan Black fronts the psychedelic rock cavalry with a passion and voice reminiscent of the early eras of Robert Plant and Ronnie James Dio.

“I’ve always wanted to hear new musical ingredients within a classic heavy sound,” states Aryn Jonathan Black. “It’s great to witness captivating performances where both the live show and the band’s recorded material can complement one another. The heavy-prog sounds of URIAH HEEP, HAIRY CHAPTER, and the epic delivery of early RAINBOW showcases these crossovers brilliantly and gave us all honest — yet relentless — sonics to aspire to. That’s why it’s important for us as a band to maintain spontaneity while putting a special emphasis into integral hooks.”

The fifth part of a new video interview with frontman Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven of Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON can be seen below.

SATYRICON‘s new, self-titled studio album was released on September 9 in Norway via Indie Recordings, and in the rest of Europe through Roadrunner Records. The CD, which will be made available on September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, was produced by Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven and was recorded in Norway, and mixed by Adam Kasper. The effort features a guest appearance by Sivert Høyem, the Norwegian singer best known as the vocalist of the rock band MADRUGADA.

“Satyricon” track listing:

01. Voice Of Shadows
02. Tro Og Kraft
03. Our World, It Rumbles Tonight
04. Nocturnal Flare
05. Phoenix
06. Walker Upon The Wind
07. Nekrohaven
08. Ageless Northern Spirit
09. The Infinity Of Time And Space
10. Natt

Limited-edition CD digipack bonus tracks:

11. Phoenix (Recording Session Mix)
12. Our World, It Rumbles Tonight (Deeper Low Mix)
13. Natt (Wet Mix)

Comments Satyr: “We are back! Sorry it took so long, but we needed the time to be able pull off a record like this.

“Comparing this one to previous records is time wasted, it is SATYRICON; constantly on the move.

“Naming this record ‘Satyricon’ was the most obvious thing in the world. We have never done a record which captures the spirit of this band in such a way. Ever. It will demand a lot from you as a listener, but I know you will love it. It will grow on you and that is why it will stay with you forever.

“We won’t tour as much in the future as we used to, and that will just make every tour more special. This album and this tour is for you and ourselves. It is our moment!”

Speaking to AOL‘s Noisecreep at this year’s Inferno festival, Satyr stated about SATYRICON‘s new album: “To me, it sounds very authentic, it’s organic-sounding. And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there’s nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it’s supposed to sound — it’s dynamical; the music is alive, it’s not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it’s a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it’s gonna be a record that’s gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future.”

The special event is part of the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, and fans of both SATYRICON and the National Opera Chorus can look forward to a very unique and exciting evening, which coincides with the worldwide release of SATYRICON‘s new CD.
