Session conducted an interview with former NEVERMORE and current CONQUERING DYSTOPIA guitarist Jeff Loomis at this year’s Musikmesse fair, which was held March 12-15 in Frankfurt, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

Loomis redesigned his main Schecter signature signature-series JL-7 black seven-string electric guitar for 2014. It includes increased access and playability, lighter weight, thinner neck, Hipshot hardtail and new tones from the EMG 57/66 set.

CONQUERING DYSTOPIA is the project featuring Jeff Loomis and Portland, Oregon studio musician Keith Merrow. The group’s self-titled debut album was mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with Mark Lewis (ARSIS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER).

The recording lineup for “Conquering Dystopia” is completed by Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE) on bass and Alex Rudinger (THE FACELESS) on drums.

Loomis previously contributed a guest guitar solo to Keith‘s second full-length instrumental album, “Awaken The Stone King”, which came out in January 2011.

The special tour edition of Loomis‘ latest album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, was released on April 16, 2013 via Century Media Records.

“Plains Of Oblivion – Tour Edition” features three bonus tracks, in addition to the original “Plains Of Oblivion” disc that was released in 2012.

Loomis‘s second solo album, “Plains Of Oblivion”, sold 2,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 179 on The Billboard 200 chart. The effort landed at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Plains Of Oblivion” was released on April 10, 2012 in North America (one day earlier in Europe) via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Aaron Smith (7 HORNS 7 EYES) and features cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design, who has previously worked with ALL SHALL PERISH, THE END and XERATH.

Loomis and drummer Van Williams announced their departure from NEVERMORE in April 2011 due to personal differences with singer Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. Their replacements have not yet been announced.

Comments THE AGONIST in a statement: “We announce that after three albums and countless tours, we officially part ways with vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. We wish Alissa all the best with ARCH ENEMY and her future endeavors.

“It is the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for THE AGONIST! We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to the THE AGONIST family. Please give a warm welcome to very talented vocalist Vicky Psarakis!”

THE AGONIST‘s third album, “Prisoners”, debuted at No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

The CD was produced by Christian Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY) and mixed by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, SUICIDE SILENCE) and it “picks right up where 2009′s ‘Lullabies For The Dormant Mind’ left off, with soaring melodies over complex metal passages that fans of thinking-man’s metal can appreciate,” according to a press release.

The official trailer for “Broken Crown Halo”, the new studio album from Italian heavy rockers LACUNA COIL, can be seen below. LACUNA COIL last month hit the road as a quintet as part of “The Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock Tour” following the departures of guitarist Cris “Pizza” Migliore and drummer Cristiano “Criz” Mozzati. Marco “Maus” Biazzi is handling all guitar duties on the trek while drummer Ryan Blake Folden is once again sitting behind the kit. The band states: “Fans will already be familiar with Ryan, as he performed live with LACUNA COIL on the majority of the 2012 and 2013 ‘Dark Legacy’ and ‘Dark Adrenaline’ tours.”

Regarding the departures of Migliore and Mozzati, LACUNA COIL singer Cristina Scabbia told U.K.’s Metal Hammer: “It’s something we announced [in mid-Febraury] but knew for a few weeks, and honestly, I feel good, because we couldn’t have a better — I don’t even wasn’t to use the word ‘split’; that sounds like, ‘Oh, we had a big fight and we don’t want to see each other anymore,’ she said.

“It was something that was coming from the heart, very sincere. They just decided they wanted to change their lives. It’s not like they didn’t like the band anymore, but this lifestyle is not easy. You’re on tour all the time, you don’t have any private life anymore.

“Being on tour is really surreal, because time moves in a different way, so I think it’s absolutely normal that after so many years together, some of us want to carry on doing what we do because we still enjoy it, and some of us would want to move on, keeping the great memories we have together. I mean, they’re not planning to join other bands. It’s not going to be a huge difference, because we will have the same songwriter, and we are determined to go on. So I’m sad that they’re leaving, but we will continue seeing each other outside the band. They are happy, we are happy, everyone is happy.”

She continued: “The drums [on the U.S. tour] will be played by Ryan Folden, who played with us for the last year while Criz was at home growing up his kid. And for guitar, we are going on with Marco only, and then we will decide.

“It’s too early to think about replacements, and we don’t even know if we want that. We might work with session musicians for a while, because even if we are serene and happy, it’s hard for us, because we lost two brothers, so we don’t want anyone to come into the family just like that. It would be wise, I think, just to go on with us four and then move on with friends like Ryan, who is a great drummer and very easy to get along with. And that’s an important factor, because if you’re going to share a tour bus with people, you have to be able to get along with them!”

The Revolver-magazine-presented “The Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock Tour kicked off February 20 and features LACUNA COIL sharing a stage with SICK PUPPIES, Century Media Records labelmates EYES SET TO KILL and CILVER. In early June 2014, Arch Enemy will unleash 9th studio album, “War Eternal,” worldwide via Century Media Records and Trooper Entertainment in Japan. In what seems like but apparently is not an early April Fools joke, Century Media records has issued the following statement about the band now replacing front woman Angela Gossow: “With this upcoming release, the band will introduce a new member to their ranks: Alissa White-Gluz, former vocalist of Canadian extreme metallers The Agonist. Angela Gossow, who joined Arch Enemy in 2000 and made her debut on the now classic Wages Of Sin (2001), will be stepping down as front-woman and focusing on management, while Alissa takes her place.” Angela Gossow comments: “Dear ARCH ENEMY fans, this is not easy to tell you…I have decided to step down from being ARCH ENEMY’s voice of anger.

He emerged as an up-and-coming talent with the groups DREAM EVIL (Sweden), MYSTIC PROPHECY (Germany) and NIGHTRAGE (Greece), but it is his work with his own band FIREWIND (who have released seven studio albums and two live releases) and as a member of Ozzy Osbourne‘s band that have helped him emerge as one of the world’s top metal and rock guitarists. His work on Ozzy‘s “Scream” album led to a Grammy nomination in 2010, and his list of accolades includes Guitar Player magazine’s “Best Metal Guitarist,” the “Dimebag Darrell Shredder” award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and Metal Hammer Greece “Best Guitarist” on four separate occasions.

Digital Tour Bus, which gives fans “an all-access pass” to the tour buses that their favorite bands travel in, has posted its latest “Bus Invaders” episode, focusing on Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY. The four-minute clip, which was filmed February 12 in Joliet, Ilinois, can be seen below.

On its North American tour, DARK TRANQUILLITY sold a seven-inch EP entitled “A Memory Construct”, which will also be released digitally in the beginning of March. Recorded during the “Construct” sessions, the single contains the two songs, is limited to 500 copies worldwide and is available on a transparent red wax. DARK TRANQUILLITY‘s tenth studio album, “Construct”, was released on May 27, 2013 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Jens Bogren (PARADISE LOST, OPETH, KATATONIA) at his Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden.

DARK TRANQUILLITY filmed a music video for the song “Uniformity” on April 13, 2013 with Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.

Italy’s Soundsblog.it recently conducted an interview with BUTCHER BABIES. You can now watch the chat below.

BUTCHER BABIES‘ debut album, “Goliath”, sold around 3,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 107 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD came out on July 9, 2013 via Century Media Records.

The Los Angeles-based band — frontwomen Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd, guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Jason Klein and drummer Chris Warner — wrapped its tour with MARILYN MANSON in late February 2013 and went straight into the studio with producer Josh Wilbur (GOJIRA, LAMB OF GOD, HATEBREED).

In a 2013 interview with Metal Exiles, Heidi stated about BUTCHER BABIES being labeled a “shock rock” band: “People say that we are, but sometimes I do not see us that way. I think people are just shocked at a couple of girls acting the way that we do. I think that’s what’s mostly shocking. Besides Wendy O. Williams, I haven’t seen a female do anything shocking in music in a long time. This is really who we are, but with the blood, the theatrics and the horror; those are things that we love, it’s what we are about. It’s part of our character, it is who we are when we jump on stage, so it’s not for shock, it’s just how we feel.”

Regarding the lyrical inspiration for “Goliath”, Heidi said: “‘Goliath’ is something that we have held inside us for a long time. I have a green binder that I have all of my writing in, and I have had it since I was 12, so anything I have ever experienced in my life is in there and that’s where we pulled a lot of the material from. A lot of things on this record are things that most people go through and we just turned a negative into a positive.”

In an interview with CrypticRock.com, Shepherd stated about the musical direction of “Goliath”: “The album, as a whole, is very diverse. There is basically something for everybody. We all have different influences and everything is portrayed on this album. Jason [Klein, bass] loves death metal; Henry [Flury, guitar], in general, metal; I love nu-metal; and Carla loves classic metal. We all love every [kind of] metal but those are our favorite and those are where we came from. All our influences shine bright on this album. It’s definitely a coloration of everybody’s influences and everybody’s love. We’re all very proud of it in one way or another. There is something for everybody in it.”
