The official lyric video for the song “The Infinity Of Time And Space” from Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON can be seen below. The track comes off the band’s new, self-titled album, which sold around 1,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. This is roughly in line with the opening-week performance of the band’s previous CD, “The Age of Nero”, which premiered with 1,700 units back in November 2008.

“Satyricon” debuted at position No. 1 on the official chart in the band’s home country — the first time one of the group’s releases has topped the chart in Norway. “Satyricon” has also seen success internationally, debuting at No. 6 in Finland, No. 23 in Germany and No. 26 in Austria. By comparison, SATYRICON‘s previous studio album, “2008′a “The Age Of Nero”, entered the chart at No. 5 in Norway and No. 73 in Germany.

Comments SATYRICON vocalist Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven: “SATYRICON fans have shown that there is still room for authentic music with an analog sound. They have shown it to the degree that it has given us formidable chart positions in very competitive European markets and in Norway a Number 1 record. It is the most important record that we have done and now our fans are clearly sending out a very strong message by getting behind it. We are very thankful and proud.”

“Satyricon” was recorded in Norway between January and May 2013 and was produced by Satyr. Mixing took place in Seattle by Adam Kasper and Satyr.

Speaking to Noisecreep at this year’s Inferno festival, Satyr stated about SATYRICON‘s new album: “To me, it sounds very authentic, it’s organic-sounding. And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there’s nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it’s supposed to sound — it’s dynamical; the music is alive, it’s not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it’s a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it’s gonna be a record that’s gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future.”

“Surgical Steel”, the new album from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS, sold around 8,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Surgical Steel” has registered the following first-week chart positions so far:

Finland: #6
Germany: #10
Austria: #24
USA: #41
Sweden: #42
UK: #47
Australia: #59
Netherlands: #73
France: #80
Ireland: #84
Belgium: #117 (Flanders #130, Wallonia #87)

Commented the band: “Wow! Well, we had every faith in the fact that we’ve recorded a very strong album and we had every faith in our label, Nuclear Blast, that they would work their asses off — but this is AMAZING news!!! This even more impressive when you consider that our album ‘leaked’ a month before the release date AND that we didn’t target the charts in the summer when it was ‘soft’ and easier to chart high.

CARCASS was up against some strong mainstream releases this past week!

“Thanks to all the listeners who bought the album — it goes to prove to all the cynics out there wrong — people DO still buy albums, especially metalheads!

“If you bought the album, you should be proud of yourselves!

“Again, thanks from us!”

“Surgical Steel” was released on September 16 in the U.K., September 13 in the rest of Europe and September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) and mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY).

Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in CARCASS‘ current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).

In a recent interview with Chile’s Radio Futuro, Walker stated about the new CARCASS CD: “We think we’ve made a good album, so it’s gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can’t wait to see what people think.”

He continued: “It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds like CARCASS. Everything about it… I think it’s gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it’s got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that’s all I can say, really, ’cause we don’t really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it’s good.”

Regarding the direction of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walker previously stated: “We’ve taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it’s in our blood, but it’s no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I’ve jokingly christened some parts ‘trad blast’ and some ‘death sleaze’… don’t think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we’re setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]”

The new, self-titled album from Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON has debuted at position No.

SATYRICON is currently on a highly successful tour in its homeland and is soon set to embark on a tour through the Russian Federation and Europe.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s new album, “Hail To The King”, has registered the following first-week chart positions:

USA: #1
UK: #1
Canada: #1
Ireland: #1
Mexico: #1
Brazil: #1
Australia: #2
Finland: #2
New Zealand: #3
Germany: #5
The Netherlands: #6
Italy: #8

“Hail To The King” sold 159,000 copies in the United States its first week of release. The disc beat out strong new entries from rappers Big Sean and Juicy J to hold on to the top spot and give the California band their second straight chart-topper after 2010′s “Nightmare”, which moved 163,000 copies to hit the top spot upon its arrival.

The title track from “Hail To The King” has spent four straight weeks at the top of Billboard‘s Active Rock radio airplay chart.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s opening is also the largest week for a hard rock album in over a year. The last to sell more in a week was LINKIN PARK‘s “Living Things”, which debuted at No. 1 with 223,000 copies sold in July 2012.

Next up for AVENGED SEVENFOLD is its first major tour in support of the new CD, which starts October 3 in Chicago. M. Shadows told The Pulse Of Radio that the band is raring to go after more than a year off. “Yeah, we’re feeling good, no doubt about it. We’re really excited, you know, the batteries are recharged, you know. I think that year off really helps, and then you start wanting to get back on the road. We’re looking forward to it. It’s gonna be a whole new chapter for us and we’re excited to be playing again. We’re excited about the record. So when you’re excited about the music you’re playing, it makes touring a lot easier.”

The tour will conclude on October 26 in Las Vegas. Support on the road trip will come from DEFTONES and GHOST.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD celebrated the release of the new album last week with a free show at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
