GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein of New Orleans sludge metal veterans CROWBAR before the band’s February 28 concert in Manchester, England. You can now watch the chat below.

CROWBAR will release its new album, “Symmetry In Black”, in North America on May 27 via Entertainment One Music. The CD, which will be made available in Europe on May 26 through Century Media Records, was produced by CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein and Duane Simoneaux and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA).

Comments Windstein: “We are so proud and excited about what we have accomplished with this record! The focus, determination and attitude in the band is at an all-time high.

“We are 100% ready to get this juggernaut rolling and never touch the breaks again.

CROWBAR will not be stopped!”

The release of “Symmetry In Black” will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the CROWBAR‘s inception. Windstein continues: “CROWBAR is my heart and soul. The music is a part of me that I am extremely proud of.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be putting all of my energy and focus into something that I created 25 years ago!

“We are extremely excited to release our 10th full length & to bring the riffs to as many people as possible on tour.”

Windstein exited DOWN in September 2013 in order to focus “100%” on CROWBAR. He was replaced in DOWN by the band’s longtime stage manager and HONKY founding guitarist Bobby Landgraf.

CROWBAR last year announced the addition of bassist Jeff Golden to the group’s ranks.

Jeff is from Bolton, Connecticut, but currently resides in Estero, Florida.

Former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo was interviewed on episode 56 of “Kill Your Radio”. You can now listen to the chat using the widget below.

Anselmo‘s first-ever solo album, “Walk Through Exits Only”, sold around 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at Philip‘s New Orleans studio, Nodferatu’s Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and José Manuel Gonzales“Walk Through Exits Only” is abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo.

Asked why he felt the need to start another band outside of DOWN, Anselmo told The Washington Times: “If you look at DOWN, we’re made up of three different bands, EYEHATEGOD and CROWBAR and whatever the fuck Pepper‘s [Keenan, guitar] doing, you know; he does a lot of different things. So, we have this flexibility of freedom and dead time is lame. Instead of starting some fucking other band, you know, branding it with a name and having to have people buy into a whole new name, this is something I wanted to do for the long term and something I can do long term because I don’t want any other fucking projects. That’s the beauty of having a solo band. I can really do what I want. So, ‘Walk Through Exits Only’ is one expression of music. We have another EP coming out in October that’s really completely different than anything that I’ve put out. And then we’re gonna get even more different and base it off the fuckin’ mood I’m in, you know? Jesus, It could be an all-acoustic, spoon-playing, flute-playing fuckin’, oh man, any type of fuckin’ music. I can do it if I feel like doing it. The only two bands I’m in right now, tangibly that I’m going to be working with and putting out records with is DOWN and the solo band. So, it’s easy.”

Anselmo also spoke about his forthcoming autobiography, tentatively titled “Mouth For War: Pantera, Pain, & Pride – Heavy Metal Highs, Drugged Out Lows, & The Battle For My Life”, for which he secured a deal last year with Jeremie Ruby-Strauss, senior editor at Simon & Schuster‘s Gallery Books imprint. writer Corey Mitchell will co-author the book, which is described as “a no-holds-barred look inside of Philip‘s brain, his history with PANTERA, the loss of his best-friend, Dimebag Darrell, and an unflinching examination into the downward spiral of pain and drug addiction that nearly cost him his life.”

Asked what fans might be surprised to see in the book, Anselmo said: “There’s a lot of stories and a very, very interesting journey to fuckin’ even get to the PANTERA chapters. It took quite a while and quite a lot of different craziness in my life to even fuckin’ get to the point to where I was able to join PANTERA. So, a lot of shit happened before PANTERA and then obviously the PANTERA days were fucking insane in their own way. Since the death of Dimebag and the breakup of PANTERA before that, a whole lot of shit has happened, as well, both horrific and pretty damn fucking good.”

He continued: “These days, man, you know, it’s like I’m ten years clean from any fucking hard drugs at all and fuckin’ haven’t touched a drop of whiskey since 2001. Honestly, there’s a big, I guess, educational, if you want to put it like that, portion of the book that shows there’s somewhat of a ray of light even at the fuckin’ lamest part of your life or the lowest part of your life. If people can learn from me, good, good for them. It’s gonna be an interesting book.”

Bassist Patrick Bruders has officially resigned as CROWBAR‘s bass player. A replacement bassist has not yet been announced.

Said CROWBAR guitarist/vocalist Kirk Windstein: “I’m more hurt than anyone about Pat leaving CROWBAR, but keep in mind that there were years that I was the only member in CROWBAR.”

It is not presently clear if Bruders‘ departure from CROWBAR will affect his position with DOWN, a band that also features Windstein on guitar.

CROWBAR‘s latest album, “Sever The Wicked Hand”, sold around 3,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

CROWBAR‘s previous album, “Lifesblood For The Downtrodden”, premiered with 1,900 copies back in February 2005.

“Sever The Wicked Hand” was released in the U.S. on February 8, 2011 through E1 Music and in Europe on February 14, 2011 via Century Media Records.

CROWBAR‘s “The Cemetery Angels” video was filmed on December 5, 2010 in New York City with director Dale “Rage” Resteghini.

Fitness fight: Buckley in hospital

Crowbar and Soilent Green drummer Tommy Buckley has had his prostate gland removed after cancerous cells were discovered.

But his bandmates say he’s on the mend and he’ll back behind the kit soon.

Soilent Green report: “The cancer was in a small part of his prostate, but doctors suggested the total removal to prevent the spreading of cancerous cells.

“He’s doing great with the love and care of his family and friends. His girlfriend Lisa D Ryder gets a special blessing for being so wonderful to him.

“Tommy decided that he wanted to go public with his surgery to let people be aware of the importance of prostate health. He’s ready to play as soon as possible.

“We ask that you keep him in your prayers… he will beat this.”

Buckley underwent the operation on August 13. He’s had his surgical staples removed and is due to have a catheter taken out within the next fortnight.
