Resident Rock Star conducted an interview with Ivar Bjørnson, guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of Norwegian progressive/psychedelic black metallers ENSLAVED, on February 11 at the Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado. You can now watch the chat below.

ENSLAVED‘s twelfth studio album, “RIITIIR”, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 8 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

ENSLAVED‘s previous album, “Axioma Ethica Odini”, opened with 1,400 units back in September 2010 to debut at No. 16 on the Top New Artist Albums chart.

“Describing the sound on the new album is both easy and hard,” ENSLAVED‘s Ivar Bjørnson said. “It is easy because it sounds like ENSLAVED, whatever that means. It is hard because there are so many layers and different focal points. I have a feeling that it has a deeper complexity than our previous efforts, but at the same time, I do find it more catchy and moving. Then again, I am the opposite of objective in this, so again I’ll leave it up to the people outside the band to make up their mind.”

ENSLAVED‘s previous two CDs — “Vertebrae” (2008) and “Axioma Ethica Odini” (2010) — were released via Indie Recordings in Europe and Nuclear Blast in North America.

Elize Ryd of Swedish metallers AMARANTHE has uploaded an audio recording of her singing the NIGHTWISH song “Nemo”. Ryd laid down the vocals for the track in 2006 when the Finnish symphonic metal band was seeking a replacement for Tarja Turunen. Check it out below.

Says Ryd: “I’ve been saving this for a special moment. And now when I became a singer as I was dreaming of… and been travelling all over the world and met fantastic people and also NIGHTWISH on stage. And have such wonderful fans.

“It is a amazing memory from the day when NIGHTWISH sent me a demo with music and ask me to put my voice on it!! So here it is. ‘Nemo’ from the NIGHTWISH audition 2006!!”

Ryd, who has been touring the world as a backing singer vocalist for KAMELOT, filled in for then-NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon for a show in Denver, Colorado in September 2012 because Olzon was suffering from fever and vomiting and was forced to spend the night at a local hospital.

In a recent interview, Ryd stated about the Denver gig: “It was a very special thing.

“I love NIGHTWISH and I’ve sung their songs many times for myself. [laughs]

“They asked me if I would be willing to sing for them that night, and we decided that if the audience agreed it was okay for them that I sing, of course I was going to help NIGHTWISH out so they could do the show. At least with some singing so they wouldn’t have to do it all instrumental.”

She added: “It was a little bit like a dream come true for me because I always wanted to sing for NIGHTWISH. [laughs] I did audition for them years ago, so to actually be on stage with them was great. And the response from the crowd really helped. I was almost crying on stage because the people were so supportive.”

Behind-the-scenes and performance footage from KAMELOT‘s September 14 concert at Bluebird Theater in Denver, Colorado can be seen below.

KAMELOT keyboardist Oliver Palotai is sitting out the band’s North American tour so he can stay home with longtime girlfriend Simone Simons, (EPICA singer) as they await the birth of their first child. Filling in for him is Coen Janssen of EPICA.

KAMELOT‘s latest album, “Silverthorn”, sold 5,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 79 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band’s previous CD, “Poetry For The Poisoned”, opened with around 6,100 units in September 2010 to enter the chart at No. 74.

“Silverthorn” was released on October 30, 2012 in North America, October 26, 2012 in Germany and October 29, 2012 in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV. The CD marks the band’s first release with Tommy Karevik, the Swedish vocalist who previously fronted SEVENTH WONDER (a group that he is still a member of).

In a 2012 interview with Loudwire, KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood stated about what Karevik brings to the band: “I think when we knew we had to bring in a new person on vocals, we wanted the opportunity to grow the band, not just to maintain the band or survive. We wanted to look at this as an opportunity to make the band bigger, [and] I think with Tommy we can do that. Not only is he an exceptional singer, he’s a great songwriter and he’s way ahead of what I thought he would be in terms of being a frontman. People who come out to shows will see that this guy is a force to be reckoned with. I can’t imagine a better choice, honestly. In the beginning, when this whole thing started, we were a little unsure of what the future might be, but now we’re really excited about it.”

The official video for the song “The Guardian” from the melodic progressive power metal act ARTIZAN can be seen below. The conceptual clip, which features singer Tom Braden, was shot in Denver, Colorado.

“The Guardian” is the third track on the new ARTIZAN album, “Ancestral Energy”, which was released in May via Pure Steel Records. The CD’s cover artwork was created by Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with TESTAMENT, HATEBREED, SIGH, ATHEIST and AGHORA.

Commented ARTIZAN founder/drummer Ty Tammeus: “Eliran has impressed me with his previous illustrations; he is a young, gifted artist, who will inject his unique talents into a masterpiece for the new ARTIZAN album. I am amazed how he has completely immersed himself into our music, and the story of our characters, to develop a concept for the album cover unlike anything I have ever seen.”

“Ancestral Energy” was recorded at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with legendary metal producer Jim Morris. Ex-ICED EARTH singer Matt Barlow makes a very special guest appearance on the CD’s title track.

KORN is bringing back the Family Values festival for one day, on October 5, at the 1st Bank Center in Denver, Colorado. Joining the headliners at the event will be HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, ASKING ALEXANDRIA, MACHINE GUN KELLY and BEWARE OF DARKNESS.

KORN launched what was initially the Family Values Tour in 1998, with additional runs in 1999, 2001, 2006 and 2007.

KORN singer Jonathan Davis told The Pulse Of Radio back then that the philosophy behind Family Values was simple. “The bottom line is having good bands and it’s all about the fans having fun,” he said. “Not necessarily any kind of statement, or any kind of like crazy thing we’re trying to get across, we just want kids to have the ability to come to a place and not have to spend a lot of money and have a good time. And see a lot of great bands.”

Among the acts that appeared on the tour were STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, LINKIN PARK, EVANESCENCE, PRIMUS and DMX, along with LIMP BIZKIT and RAMMSTEIN.

This is the first time that Family Values has been a one-off event.

The date falls three days before the October 8 release of KORN‘s 11th studio album, “The Paradigm Shift”, which features the return of founding guitarist Brian “Head” Welch after eight years away from the group.
