Toxic Holocaust: apocalypse now

Chemistry Of Consciousness, Toxic Holocaust’s forthcoming first album in five years proves once again that thrash is at its most potent when a) you throw in a whole bunch of sonic pollutants, and b) you actually sound like some badass, nuclear-apocalypse-surviving warrior of the wastelands.

Featuring all manner of d-beats, caustic, black metal atmospheres, true punk venom and an air of genuine menace throughout, Chemistry… - released on October 25 via Relapse Records - is scabrous, coal-eyed thrash metal that that belongs more in the unholy, confrontational company of bands like Destroyer 666, Aura Noir and Nekromantheon than it does in the cleaner cut, more classicist purveyors of the form. Now head honcho Joel Grind has released the track Rat Eater like some particularly nasty flesh-ravaging virus and you can hear it exclusively right here. Thash till death! And beyond!

Invictus Productions announces September 30th as the international release date for Slutvomit’s debut album, “Swarming Darkness.” The following press release was issued about the band: “A compelling mixture of all that is irreverent and utterly unholy from the entire career of Satanic, underground heavy metal, Slutvomit owes its influences to all that made black and death metal truly great in the mid ’80s. “Equal parts Possessed, Morbid Angel, Incubus, and Necrovore from their demo glory days, Slutvomit is a hysterical bastard child of these progenitors. Hard, fast, blasphemous, Slutvomit is for fans of Nifelheim, Destroyer 666, and Watain, as well as classic bands like Bathory, Morbid Angel, Possessed, and Sodom.” The track listing is as follows: 1

Primordial: Heading home

Dublin gets its own extreme metalfest.

The brainchild of Primodial frontman Alan Nemtheanga and Dublin Metal Events promoter Fergal Holmes, Redemption is a brand new extreme metal fest, which will be held at the Button Factory in Dublin on February 9, and Subterranea is very proud to be announced as sponsors. Featuring Primordial as headliners, the bill includes previous touring partners Icealand’s Solstafir and Manchester’s Winterfylleth, as well as Greek metal legends Rotting Christ playing their earliest and blackest material only, occultic London death metal enigmas Grave Miasma and local pagan metallers Mael M—rdha. We spoke to Primordial’s Alan Nemtheanga to found out what’s the craic.

What was the initial impetus behind setting up Redemption Fest, and can you see this becoming a regular, annual event or is it meant to be a one-off?

“We talked about doing another Primordial show in Dublin, our hometown but we all knew it had to be something different, something special so along with Fergal Holmes from Dublin Metal Events came up with the idea of putting together a small festival. Dublin has nothing like this, various festivals have come and gone around Ireland but nothing in Dublin so we just put our heads together to try and make Redemption happen. As far as myself and Fergal are concerned this will continue, of course without Primordial in future but we hope to create something unique and special that puts Dublin, Ireland, Primordial, myself and DME connected to Redemption every year as long as it works out.”

For those travelling, what can you tell us about the atmosphere and history of the venue?

“The venue is where we filmed out dvd right in the centre of Dublin. What we hope is that people will travel over for the weekend, Destroyer 666 are playing the night before and make a weekend out of Redemption and take in the atmosphere of the city and it’s history. Hopefully then it goes in their calendar every year. That at least is my plan at least.”

Is there a fundamental sensibility that all the bands share?

“Well, they are bands we know, friends and accomplices, also bands we feel we share some musical common ground. We hope to set a tone that we can run with, for want of a better word, a dark tone that can incorporate more variation in the future. It promises regardless of all the cliches to be a special evening, a unique weekend and hopefully a positive advertisement for the history and culture of our city. Fuck knows right now it needs it!”

Necrovation has posted a new song online off the band’s upcoming self-titled album. Check out the track “Sepulchreal” in the player below.

The new album, out June 26th in Europe and August 14th in the States, is the follow-up to 2008′s “Breed Deadness Blood.” Agonia Records also commented on the album: “It marks a swift improvement over the band’s previous raw death metal style, with more classical and heavy metal influences but still with the classic death metal elements that have been the group’s trademark since the beginning. “Necrovation was mixed and produced by Gustav Burn along with the band members and mastered in Necromorbus Studios (WATAIN, DESTROYER 666) in Stockholm, Sweden. Available formats: CD, limited 12-inch gatefold heavy vinyl with eight pages booklet (first 100 copies of the vinyl on a heavy navy blue vinyl with white haze) and digital download.”

The track listing is as follows:

01. Necrovorous Insurrection
02. Dark Lead Dead
03. Pulse of Towering Madness
04. Commander of Remains
05. New Depths
