The fifth installment in Relapse’s exhaustive reissue campaign of DEATH‘s immensely influential catalog is “Leprosy”, the band’s titanic second album. Originally released in 1988 the pioneering LP built upon the thrash sounds of METALLICA and SLAYER but added a previously unheard level of raw extremity. The “Leprosy” reissue will be made available on April 25 in Benelux, Germany, Finland; April 29 in North America and April 28 in the the rest of the world. The entire album, as well as the bonus material, has been painstakingly remastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, NILE) and will be reissued in the following format:

* 2xCD/Limited Edition
* 3xCD/LP/Picture Disc LP/Limited Edition
* 2xLP Box set/Digtal

The LP features the remastered core album on wax together with a download card for all of the music included on the 2xCD.

A remastered version of the death metal classic “Pull The Plug” can be heard below.

In addition to the 2xCD reissue, a super limited 3xCD version will be available exclusively from www.relapse.com featuring everything included on 2xCD version plus an exclusive third CD featuring over 40 minutes of unreleased live material, housed in a deluxe embossed eight-panel digipak with a 24-page booklet, limited and numbered to 2000 copies.

On September 27, RockNLive.org conducted an interview with ’80s hard rock queen Lita Ford. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Lita Ford will release a new live album, “The Bitch Is Back…Live”, on November 5 in North America, on October 25 in Germany and on October 28 in the rest of Europe through SPV/Steamhammer. The disc features a recording of Lita‘s October 2012 performance at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California.

The album will be released as a digipak with a special booklet including fan photos and download.

Where does the title come from? Lita opens the show with her rendition of the classic Elton John track “The Bitch is Back”, which was previously released as a bonus track on “Living Like A Runaway”.

“Well, I heard [the original version of the song] on the radio and I just thought it worked for Elton John, and it works for Lita Ford,” Lita explained to Metal-Rules.com when asked how she came to cover the track. “It kind of makes a statement, saying, ‘She’s back,’ and this is me saying this, not anybody else, you know?! It came from me, and I spoke to Elton John backstage before we released the album and I wanted his blessing. I didn’t want to just take his song and do it because I’ve done my own version of it. It’s more guitar-orientated instead of piano. So I said to him we’re doing ‘The Bitch Is Back’ and we gave him a copy of it, and his tour manager wrote back and said, ‘It’s one rocking version.’ But I went backstage because he came through town and I went backstage and said, ‘Hello!’ and he said, ‘That’s my song,’ you know, ‘That’s my song,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it is your song,’ and I said, ‘Thank you for letting me do it,’ and he said, ‘Thank you for doing my song.’ So I thought, ‘Right on, I got his blessing.'”

“The Bitch Is Back…Live” track listing:

01. The Bitch Is Back
02. Hungry
03. Relentless
04. Living Like A Runaway
05. Devil In My Head
06. Back To The Cave
07. Can’t Catch Me
08. Out For Blood
09. Dancing On The Edge
10. Hate
11. Close My Eyes Forever
12. Kiss Me Deadly

Ford has recruited Bobby Rock (VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, NELSON) to sit behind the kit for her shows in Australia, Europe and the U.S., as well as the recent Monsters Of Rock cruise in the Bahamas.

Lita‘s touring drummer for much of 2012 was Scot Coogan, who has previously played with BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, ACE FREHLEY and LYNCH MOB.

Lita‘s current touring lineup:

* Lita Ford – Guitar, Vocals
* Mitch Perry (MSG, ASIA, EDGAR WINTER) – Guitar
* Bobby Rock (VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, NELSON) – Drums
* Marty O’Brien (WE ARE THE FALLEN, TOMMY LEE, STATIC-X, DISTURBED) – Bass

Lita last year filmed a video for the song “Mother” in Joshua Tree, California. Directing the clip was Ford‘s former THE RUNAWAYS bandmate Victory Tischler-Blue, whose film “Edgeplay” was based on her tenure in the 1970s all-girl teenage rock act. “Mother” is dedicated to Lita‘s estranged sons, Rocco and James (father is former NITRO singer Jim Gillette).

Ford‘s latest album, “Living Like A Runaway”, was released on June 19, 2012 in North America. The effort was made available in four configurations: a double LP, limited-edition CD, standard CD and digital download. The artwork for the album was created by famed rock photographer Mark Weiss.

RockEyez recently conducted an interview with guitarist Nige Rockett of British thrashers ONSLAUGHT. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

ONSLAUGHT‘s sixth album, “VI”, was released on September 20 via AFM Records. The follow-up to 2011’s “Sounds Of Violence” was mixed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (TIAMAT, SCAR SYMMETRY) at Panic Room studios in Skara, Sweden.

Comments Rockett: “The new album, ‘VI’, has exceeded all our expectations, by a long long way!! We really pushed ourselves to the limits in making this record and I think that truly shines through in the final results.

‘VI’ is the most brutal and technical album ONSLAUGHT has ever made, no question. It’s old school, it’s contemporary and it’s fucking aggressive in the extreme, with a few big surprises thrown in for good measure!

“We’ve gone about the whole album-making process with a completely different approach and mindset this time around, ranging from the artwork (by Pär Olofsson) through to the final mixes with Thomas Johansson, who I must single out for mention along with our drummer Michael Hourihan for really upping the ante in the ass-kicking stakes!

“We’re feeling kind of proud right now and pretty confident the fans are gonna dig it too!”

“VI” track listing:

01. A New World Order
02. Chaos Is King
03. Fuel For My Fire
04. Children Of The Sand
05. Slaughterize
06. 66 Fucking 6
07. Cruci-Fiction
08. Dead Man Walking
09. Enemy Of My Enemy

A bonus track on the limited digipak and 2LP vinyl will be a re-recorded version of “Shellshock” (taken from the 1989 album “In Search Of Sanity”), featuring legendary Japanese thrashers UNITED.

Rogue Records America has announce the release of the self-titled full-length album from Sweden’s HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH. For fans of MESHUGGAH, VILDHJARTA and progressive death metal searching for another amazingly brutal act to latch on to, HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH is your band.

“Humanity’s Last Breath” is out now on both physical CD (limited-edition digipak) and as a digital download (digital format also includes the entire album as an instrumental version).

The song “Animal”, taken from “Humanity’s Last Breath”, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

Bludgeoning your speakers with 13 tracks that grind any brains you have left into a pulp, HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH once again sets the bar in the death metal genre, showing the progression of not only the band but the limits of what one can do with metal itself. Chugging riffs, thunderous drums, pounding bass and banshee-like vocals take the listener through a more groove-oriented sound than the band’s last release.

HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH was formed in 2009 by drummer Buster Odeholm and guitarist Kristoffer Nilsson. They previously released two EPs, “Reanimated By Hate” (2009) and “Structures Collapse” (2011).

HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH is:

Marcus Hultqvist – Vocals
Kristoffer Nilsson – Guitar
Stefan Bengtsson – Bass Guitar
Buster Odeholm – Drums

* The Making Of “The Dream Calls For Blood”

In a recent interview with Metal Covenant, DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany stated about the “The Dream Calls For Blood” album title: “The title is basically our motto. It’s what we’re talking about, you know. In our point of view the dream being our band and keeping the band going and making music for your life. The blood is all the sacrifice and all hard work that goes into it and that’s the metaphor for that. It’s not only meant for music. It’s also meant for other people to relate in their own life and goals that they’re trying to achieve and the sacrifices that it takes to achieve these goals. And along with that, there’s also a tinge of aggression in there about other people that cut corners and don’t quite go through all the steps it takes to achieve the goal the right way. So there’s a little bit of a middle finger to those people that go about it that way and don’t fully respect what it takes.”

DEATH ANGEL‘s North American headlining tour in support of “The Dream Calls For Blood” will kick off on October 18 in San Francisco. Support on the trek will come from 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, BATTLECROSS, REVOCATION and DIAMOND PLATE.

“We are so excited to announce this upcoming tour,” commented DEATH ANGEL vocalist Mark Osegueda.

“We worked so hard writing, and recording this record! Especially writing this while on the road for the last three years of touring. And it reflects the triumphs, and mainly hardships, of all we went through while touring. The anger, perseverance, and energy was captured on the recording of ‘The Dream Calls For Blood’.

“This tour is the PERFECT springboard to launch off of and back on the road; hungrier and more focused then ever! With a lineup of bands handpicked by us, you’re basically sonically ravaged from the moment the lights dim at the beginning of the night until the lights turn back on at the end! I’m confident every band on this bill plan on sending you home feeling like you’ve survived a massacre that you can’t help but brag about.

“Look forward to feeding off each other’s energy!

“Stay hungry! Stay thrash! See you on the road, in the pit, and at the bar!!!”

The San Francisco, Hollywood and Ramona gigs are considered CD-release shows and everyone that purchases a ticket will also receive a copy of the new DEATH ANGEL album at the show.

The self-titled debut album from ASHES OF ARES, the band featuring Matt Barlow (ex-ICED EARTH), Van Williams (ex-NEVERMORE) and Freddie Vidales (ex-ICED EARTH), sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release. Issued on September 6 via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD was recorded in part at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida with legendary producer Jim Morris (ICED EARTH, OBITUARY, JON OLIVA’S PAIN, JAG PANZER). It was made available as a limited CD in a digipak, including a bonus track, as well as in two different 2LP versions.

“Ashes Of Ares” track listing:

01. The Messenger
02. Move The Chains
03. On Warrior’s Wings
04. Punishment
05. This Is My Hell
06. Dead Man’s Plight
07. Chalice Of Man
08. The Answer
09. What I Am
10. The One-Eyed King
11. The Answer (acoustic version; bonus track)

The video for the song “This Is My Hell” can be seen below. The clip was directed by David Brodsky (MUNICIPAL WASTE, WHITECHAPEL, KYLESA, REVOCATION) and was shot in an old steel foundry in Newburgh, New York along the Hudson River.

Matt Barlow recently told DeadRhetoric.com about the songwriting process for “Ashes Of Ares”: “It really is for the first time being in total creative control of lyrics and vocal melodies. That’s a big deal for me. It’s a big step, but without Freddie writing the music — he wrote 99.9 however much of the music — it would be different. I’m a music writer, but not writer per se. I did write the basis for “Move The Chains”, but my guitar playing sucks [laughs], but Freddie made it sound like actual guitar playing, and I did “The Answer”, which I wrote acoustically. It’s really more… I’m going to take the hits — good or bad — as far as lyrics and melodies because it is all me. Freddie wrote 99.9 [percent], however much of the music, but it’s really this collaborative effort. Van took the ideas we had and wrote these cool drum parts that we didn’t even think of — it changed the dynamic of the songs. It’s a really cool joint collaboration, and we’re really proud.”

Regarding the album title and the cover artwork, which was designed by drummer Van Williams, Van stated: “We discussed a few ideas, but once we had developed the band logo, it felt right to use it as the introduction to the band along with the name as the focal point for our first album. The artwork, for me, reflects where each of us has been and how we are coming together from our pasts in this new endeavour.”

ASHES OF ARES is:

Matthew Barlow – Vocals
Freddie Vidales – Guitar/Bass
Van Williams – Drums
Gio Geraca – Guitar (session/touring member only)
Dean Sternberg – Bass (session/touring member only)

ASHES OF ARES is a band which represents the culmination of experiences, trials and tribulations of its founding members. Within months of their departures from the iconic metal bands ICED EARTH and NEVERMORE, the trio came together with a renewed drive to create a sound which is a true collaboration of their personal influences, ideas and visions. Armed with the knowledge acquired through years of the writing, touring and recording cycle, and with the support of an army of loyal fans across the globe, ASHES OF ARES is poised to carve out a new legacy and stand alongside those who have helped pave the way.

06. Darkhangel
07. The Quest
08. Blasphemy And The Master

Commented HELL‘s Kev Bower (guitar, keyboards, vocals): “The artwork for ‘Curse And Chapter’ is once again the result of our collaboration with artist Dan Goldsworthy and photographer Nigel Crane, who we first worked with on the ‘Human Remains’ album cover in 2011.

“The digipak for this is one of the most complex pieces of CD/DVD packaging ever attempted by Nuclear Blast, and the concept for this was dreamed up by myself and Andy Sneap [guitar] whilst staggering back from the local pub late one night, after a ‘heavy creativity session.’ It was inspired by the rise in spiritualism in England during the 19th century, during which time séances and attempts to communicate with the dead became commonplace — along with the establishment of numerous secret cults and aristocratic organizations who would meet in secret, attempting to raise spirits and reach ‘the other side.’ We also wished to explore the phenomenon known as ‘post-mortem photography.’

“Because photography was very costly at the time, the only time ordinary families could justify the expense was after the subject was already dead. We became gripped by these macabre Victorian images of deceased family members and children being posed alongside their living families, often being supported in a standing position by equally macabre mechanical devices designed specifically for this gruesome purpose. The other major issue with spirit communication is that you never know who (or what) will ‘come through’ — and it was common for malevolent entities to create havoc in the séance room.

Dan‘s done a superb job of rendering our dark imaginings into reality, using his vision and skill to generate an entire art platform based around the existence of such a secret aristocratic spiritual cult. The cover image shows the cult’s symbol, and his manipulation of the additional photography shows a set of disturbing images which could easily have been shot at the turn of the century in some dark, dangerous English country house, during an exchange with the dead which should not happen.”

HELL will release a new single, “The Age Of Nefarious”, on October 25 via Nuclear Blast Records. The 10-inch vinyl will come in several different colors and will include the title track plus live versions of three songs recorded at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air festival.

“The Age Of Nefarious” single track listing:

Side A:

01. The Age Of Nefarious
02. On Earth As It Is In Hell (live)

Side B:

01. Blasphemy And The Master (live)
02. The Oppressors (live)

After disbanding in 1987, HELL was reincarnated in 2011, with Andy Sneap (guitar) and David Bower (vocals) joining original members Kev Bower (guitar, keyboards), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums).

“Human Remains” entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 46.

Cited as a huge indirect influence, and as one of the true founding fathers of occult metal, HELL formed in 1982 from the carcasses of U.K. metal bands RACE AGAINST TIME and PARALEX, whose “White Lightning” EP was listed by METALLICA as a favorite, and which was subsequently included on the Lars Ulrich, Geoff Barton “NWOBHM ’79 Revisited” sampler album.

Despite over five years of constant touring, the band was cruelly overlooked by the ’80s music press, who just didn’t get it. HELL were too different, too extreme, too musically intelligent and far too thought-provoking for all but the most enlightened to understand them. The final crushing blow came when their long-awaited 1986 album deal with Mausoleum collapsed as the label went bankrupt, followed by the tragic suicide of singer/guitarist Dave Halliday in 1987. The remaining members drew a line in the sand and stopped playing overnight.

STRYPER‘s November 16 concert at Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California will be filmed a for a forthcoming CD/DVD. Tickets for the show can be purchased at Ticketweb.com.

STRYPER‘s new album, “No More Hell To Pay”, will be released on November 5 in North America via Frontiers Records. The effort will be made available in two formats — standard CD and deluxe digipak featuring exclusive video content. Produced by Michael Sweet himself, the set features some of STRYPER‘s strongest and heaviest material ever.

“No More Hell To Pay” includes STRYPER‘s cover version of “Jesus Is Just Alright”, a gospel song written by Arthur Reid Reynolds. STRYPER guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet said, “It rivals our cover of EARTH, WIND & FIRE‘s ‘Shining Star’ — riffs!”

“No More Hell To Pay” track listing:

01. Revelation
02. No More Hell To Pay
03. Saved By Love
04. Jesus Is Just Alright
05. The One
06. Legacy
07. Marching Into Battle
08. Te Amo
09. Sticks & Stones
10. Water Into Wine
11. Sympathy
12. Renewed

Regarding the musical direction of STRYPER‘s new material, Michael Sweet told Screamer Magazine: “The song ‘God’, which is on ‘The Covering’; if you took that song along with ‘Bleeding From Inside Out’ and ‘Blackened’ [from ‘Second Coming’], and you put it on the same album, that’s a pretty good indication of where we are going and where we are at right now. But at the same time this album is all its own.”

He added: “Every song has a hooky guitar riff. Everything is in minor keys, so it’s a little darker sounding and a little tougher. It’s definitely our heaviest record and I think people will be pleasantly surprised.

“The people who do like the poppier side of STRYPER, like ‘Calling On You’ and ‘Holding On’, this record isn’t going to really give them that. There are a lot of vocal hooks and melodies going on, but it’s a little darker, and a little edgier. To reference, there is less songs like ‘Calling On You’ and more songs like ‘To Hell With The Devil’. It’s more in that vein than the poppier vein.”
