The Body

The Body: pic by Megan Holmes

Everyone’s currently basking in the joys of an Indian summer, a communal lightness of being is in the air, why not defile it all entirely with a simmering miasma of sludge/doom filth courtesy of The Body?

The Portland, Oregon-based despondent duo have just released a glacially creepy video for the track An Altar Or A Grave featuring the unearthly voices of The Assembly Of Light Choir and taken from the new album, Christs, Redeemers, out now via Thrill Jockey Records. Directed by Richard Rankin, the video is a perfect match for the horrifying heaviness of the track itself, so for those of a stern disposition, you can gaze upon it’s gloomy, grimy face right here!

Seremonia: batty

Invited by Electric Wizard to play Roadburn earlier this year, Finland’s Seremonia have proven to be one of the most individual, and eerie entities to have emerged from the retro/doom cauldron.

Following on from last year’s selt-titled debut, the band, fronted by deapan but bewitching tones of chanteuse Nooma, are about to release the follow-up, Ihminen on Svart Records, and Hammer is proud to host an exclusive preview track, Hallava Hevonen. This is doom through the looking glass, full of crushing riffs, but opening up a landscape where the laws of physics have shifted slightly in a way you can’t quite put your finger on.

Check out the track below, and check out your sense of reality while you’re at it!

Eye Of Solitude, UK’s orchestral funeral doom finest (featuring members of Unfathomable Ruination and Kaotoxin Records label-mates Sidious), which released its successful and critically-acclaimed second full-length “Sui Caedere” in June 2012 through Kaotoxin, has returned with a monolith of heaviness entitled “Canto III.” A video teaser for “Canto III” has been posted below. The album, lyrically-based on Dante’s Inferno and featuring six tracks for a total duration of over 66 minutes, is by far the most intense and heavy, yet diverse material the band has ever released, topped by the inhuman low growls of EOS mastermind Daniel Neagoe and the contributions of violinist Casper and vocalist Anton, both from Russia’s Dominia. “Canto III is the most mature material we’ve worked on,” comments Neagoe

Norwegian psychedelic quartet SAHG, which specializes in doom-infused ’70s rock, will release their new album, “Delusions Of Grandeur”, on October 25 via Indie Recordings.

“Delusions Of Grandeur” track listing:

01. Slip Off The Edge Of The Universe
02. Blizzardborne
03. Firechild
04. Walls Of Delusion
05. Ether
06. Then Wakens The Beast
07. Odium Delirium
08. Sleeper’s Gate To The Galaxy

The song “Slip Off The Edge Of The Universe” can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

“Delusions Of Grandeur” is a concept record “about a person, whose delusions of grandeur escalate to the level where they consume him completely,” explains SAHG’s Olav Iversen (vocals, guitar). “From becoming increasingly psychopathic and dominant, he loses touch with everyone around him and isolates into his own imaginary, psychotic world, where he becomes the almighty ruler of the universe. As he stands on the highest peak of his domain and beholds all that he has conquered, he suddenly slips off the edge and floats away, weightless. Helpless and stripped of all power, he drifts further into the open space, until he disappears into the darkness. It’s an album about how desire for power and property can distort and destroy who we are.”

SAHG‘s new CD was recorded at Duper studio in Bergen, Norway.

SAHG‘s third album, “Sahg III”, came out on August 30, 2010 through Indie.

SAHG is:

Olav Iversen – Vocals/Guitar
Tony Vetaas – Bass
Thomas Tofthagen – Guitar
Thomas Lønnheim – Drums
