The Age Of Metal recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay of Canadian technical death metallers GORGUTS. You can watch the chat below.

GORGUTS recently parted ways with drummer John Longstreth and replaced him with Patrice Hamelin.

The band’s fifth album, “Colored Sands”, was released on August 30, 2013 in Europe and September 3, 2013 in North America via Season Of Mist. The CD was made available will be available as a digipak CD limited to the first pressing, regular black LP, transparent clear LP and red/yellow colored LP.

Lemay previously told Zero Tolerance magazine about “Colored Sands”: “It’s a whole concept album, so I’d been reading books for a year a year and a half for the lyrics to know what I’m going to talk about.

“The lyrics process is very hard for me. First, I’m French, and then I need to educate myself on the topic I’m going to talk about. I’m not going to educate myself on the Chinese invasion of Tibet with a Wikipedia thing.

“I bought piles of books. I feel the same way I did at the conservatory when I was writing classical pieces. It takes months and months, the pieces you just can’t get it out of your system. You need to become a sponge, you need to get soaked with the topic.

“In the first place, I wanted to write the whole album about the rituals of mandalas made with sand. One day, my girlfriend’s little daughter colored in a coloring book a mandala for me and I wondered what a mandala was, I liked the word. I searched on the Internet and found out this is a Tibetan thing and then it clicked, this is gonna be it, but I didn’t have any clue, I wasn’t very educated on the Tibetan culture. This mandala thing gets so complex, you could study it for 25-30 years before you know exactly what you’re talking about, so I said, ‘Okay, I’ll take it from a different angle.’ It’s not a National Geographic documentary either. It’s very poetic and very epic. This is my vision. I have no pretension about telling ‘truth’; it’s how I feel about these people.”

GORGUTS has joined forces with CARCASS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and NOISEM for Decibel magazine’s third cross-country domination.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan has revealed via Twitter that he has “started working” on a covers album. He added: “[It] should be good practice for the eventual SYSTEM OF A DOWN album sometime in the future.”

At the conclusion of SYSTEM OF A DOWN‘s July 29 concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, Dolmayan announced that the band would release a new studio album prior to the group’s next appearance in Los Angeles.

The following day, SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian, shot down reports that the band is making plans to make a new studio album, telling fans in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session: “We really appreciate [the fact that the fans want a new studio album from us], but we have to make a record when we think it’s time, not anyone else,” Serj said.

“No, that is not true [that we have made plans to begin work on a new album],” he added. “A quick scan of press online will show that we have not yet agreed on a timetable for another record due to its time commitments.”

Tankian also addressed the series of statements that were posted in May on SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian‘s Facebook page in which Shavo directly blamed Serj for the band’s continued lack of new music, saying that the vocalist was holding the group back.

Shavo‘s comments have been redacted by the author,” Serj said. “The truth is above in my first answer.”

He continued: “I am not opposed to making a SYSTEM record at all. It just has to be the right time for us all in the band.”

Tankian recently released two albums through his Serjical Strike Records. “Orca”, Tankian‘s first true symphony, arrived on June 25, while July 23 saw the release of a collaborative jazz-inspired disc called “Jazz-iz Christ”.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN toured Europe throughout the month of August.

Tankian launched a series of solo orchestral tour dates on September 19 in Kiev, Ukraine.

Omaha, Nebraska based hard rockers EMPHATIC will release their new album, “Another Life”, on October 22 through Epochal Artists Records. The band enlisted the help of drummer John Tempesta (THE CULT, ex-WHITE ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) to lay down drum tracks for the CD, which “is filled with gigantic hooks, powerful melodies and is an inspiring triumph over adversity,” according to a press release. The album is the group’s first to feature new frontman Toryn Green, who was previously the singer of FUEL and the touring vocalist for Finnish cello rock band APOCALYPTICA.

Produced by EMPHATIC guitarist Justin McCain and co-produced by Ryan Greene at Validus Recording Studios in Los Angeles, “Another Life” showcases EMPHATIC‘s newfound sense of maturity and creative firepower as they belt out a powerful dose of hard rock. Rejuvenated creatively, the band is now firing on all cylinders with a lineup that matches the intensity of their songs.

The lyric video for the CD’s debut single, “Remember Me”, can be seen below.

EMPHATIC is best known for its major label debut album, “Damage”, which produced the hit single “Bounce”, and landed on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at position No. 9. The CD was produced by Howard Benson (THREE DAYS GRACE, HALESTORM), and featured A PERFECT CIRCLE‘s Josh Freese playing drums on the record. From there, the band went on to take part in the Carnival Of Madness tour alongside hard rock heavyweights THEORY OF A DEADMAN, ALTER BRIDGE, BLACK STONE CHERRY and ADELITAS WAY.

On August 11, Redd of Bloodstock Radio conducted an interview with drummer John Boecklin of California metallers DEVILDRIVER at the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Derbyshire, United Kingdom. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

DEVILDRIVER‘s sixth album, “Winter Kills”, will be released on August 27 via Napalm Records. “Winter Kills” will be made available in four configurations, including a deluxe digibook with CD (including two bonus tracks, “Shudder” and “Back Down To The Grave”) and live DVD (featuring 45 minutes of live raw DEVILDRIVER power — no studio overdubs at all, just the band at their best — and including fan favorites “Clouds Over California” and “The Wretched”), standard CD version, digital version and, for the first time in DEVILDRIVER history, a 2LP gatefold edition.

Comments Fafara: “This is by far DEVILDRIVER‘s most cohesive, powerful, groove-laden record to date! We delivered our signature California groove sound alongside a raw and biting guitar tone, mixed it with massive hooks, added in thunderous drums to rethink, and reshape another different sounding unique piece of rock and roll!

DEVILDRIVER has always and will forever be about thinking outside the box and delivering on something different from record to record. SOAD are back! Um, again!

At the end of System Of A Down‘s show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Monday night, drummer John Dolmayan seemed to confirm that the band are either currently working or are about to commence work on a brand new studio album!

“Next time we come back here, we’ll have a new fucking album!” he told the crowd as the band walked offstage. Check out the video below for proof (head to around 2:30):

If true, it’ll serve as the band’s first new album since 2005′s double-barrel of Mezmerize and Hypnotize. Back in May, bassist Shavo Odadjian suggested that it was only frontman Serj Tankian serving as a stumbling block towards a new SOAD album.

“It’s Serj who doesn’t want to do a new album!!!!,” he ranted on his official Facebook page. “So please stop harassing us about it!!! We are just waiting for Serj! Now he might hate me for exposing the truth, but I had to..

“Sorry, folks!!! We’re trying to get a new album out, it’s just not passing Serj’s rules! Kinda funny, since we started the band and now he’s holding us back!! I think we should should release another album again??? As for me.. I’m ready to release one with someone who wants to be the singer of System, not someone we have to beg to be a part of System!!

“So with that in mind, what do you guys [think] we should do? Just remember, he’s been holding us back for seven years so far. Wanna wait another 4-5 years? Or shall we release a record without Serj? You tell us.

“I don’t want to make a record without him… but if he’s not down? Should the three of us just sit and wait?? Not cool!!!!!!!! I want the fans from all over the world, including Brazil, to tell us what they think. No System? Or System with with a new singer who’s just as good, if not better? PLUS new System songs and tours???? Please give me your opinion, people!!! Is System better with no singer or someone who is excited to be our new singer?? You decide.,. ’cause I’m confused!!!

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on this one. Meanwhile, the band make their return to the UK this August as a part of Reading and Leeds 2013, contributing to what we’ve all pretty much agreed is the best Reading and Leeds lineup for fucking ages.
