Swedish epic doom metallers BELOW are currently hold up at Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden with KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque recording their Metal Blade Records debut.

BELOW draws influences from BLACK SABBATH, CANDLEMASS and KING DIAMOND, so going with La Rocque as the producer was a clear choice for the group.

“The progress of the recording of our debut album is going great and to have the opportunity to work with Andy La Rocque and Olof in Sonic Train Studios is amazing,” says the band.

“We are currently finished recording the drums, the bass and the main guitars, and will start with the vocals this weekend. It sounds amazing already. It will be a truly epic album that will leave its mark in the history of doom.”

La Rocque adds: This is one of the heaviest bands I have worked with in the studio for a very long time, and the sounds so far is amazing! And always great to work with great musicians!”

The Swedish quintet is working with Tobias Rosén — bass player of fellow Metal Blade Records artists NOCTUM — of Howlin’ Owl Productions and a split seven-inch single is in set to be released by Dark Descent Records. The full-length CD will follow in 2014.

In November, BELOW will tour Europe for the first time supporting the mighty doom band DEVIL from Norway.

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo is ready to release the sophomore effort, “Tree of Tongues,” via Mediaskare Records on April 10th. “Tree of Tongues” was produced by Stephen Hawkes (Red Fang, Silent Civilian).

The first taste of the album is available now as MetalSucks premieres the track “Apis Bull” exclusively here. The following press release was also issued about Exotic Animal Petting Zoo:

“Back in 2008, the band launched their debut effort ‘I Have Made My Bed In Darkness’, which received praise from critics; the band hit the road for their first tour and things quickly started to fall apart. They returned home with no money or a place to live and head back out on the road on a DIY run of dates to try to make a profit. This allowed EAPZ to rent a practice space, which they also lived in, and begin to refocus on the band. The band then heads out on another tour and is forced to bang on their instrument cases on the street to make gas money and ultimately part ways with their guitarist.

“Exotic Animal Petting Zoo then returns to playing as a three-piece and still find more problems. Low on cash (and morale), the band is on the verge of breaking up until they get a random call from an interested musician and add guitarist Jeff Zampillo to their ranks. The band quickly connects with Jeff and their writing reaches new peaks. The band is finally ready to return to the studio and begin work on their next record but total their car (full of equipment) during a treacherous drive through a snowstorm between their homes in California and the studio in Portland that they were set to record at.

“Somehow, the band manages to escape the accident unscathed and finally make it to Portland; commencing work on what would become ‘Tree of Tongues’. What you hear is channeled aggression and a band that reaches new heights on this truly epic album. It is a story of survival and, for Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, a form of catharsis. ‘Tree of Tongues’ has been four years in the making but it’s well worth the wait. April 10th will see Exotic Animal Petting Zoo achieve the respect and recognition they deserve.”

German thrash giants Kreator have entered the studio to record the band’s thirteenth full length studio album. The album is expected by summer 2012 and is the follow up to the 2009 release “Hordes of Chaos.”

The band posted the following update on its Official Facebook Page:

“Kreator has entered the ‘Studiomega’ studios in Varberg (Sweden) to finally start the recordings for the new record coming mid 2012. As for now, the drums are set up and the first tracks are already recorded. Stay tuned for more stuff from from recording process.”

In a recent interview conducted by the band’s website team, frontman Mille spoke about the direction of the album: “The songs are coming along great and I think it’s ok to say that this will be our most epic album so far. There’s some classical, a lot of traditional metal and of course a huge dose of thrash metal influences in the new stuff. Everyone in the band is very excited at this point. The demos sound killer so far. We have about ten songs we’re working on so far.”

Speaking recently with their webmaster of their official website, Kreator frontman Mille Petrozza revealed that the group are currently working on ten new songs for their next album, which he said they will begin recording in January. An excerpt reads as follows:

Kreator-Terrorzone: How is the new album is coming along?

Petrozza: “The songs are coming along great and I think it’s o.k. to say that this will be our most epic album so far. There’s some classical, a lot of traditional metal and of course a huge dose of thrash metal influences in the new stuff. Everyone in the band is very excited at this point. The demos sound killer so far. We have about ten songs we’re working on so far.”

Kreator-Terrorzone: Do you guys have a studio date yet?

Petrozza: “Yeah, we’re going to Sweden in January. Our producer Jens Bogren will come to Germany in December for pre-production.”

Kreator-Terrorzone: Can you tell us anything about the lyrical or visual concept yet?

Petrozza: “It’s too early to talk about the lyrics yet, many are written but they keep changing all the time. Visually we have tapped Wes Benscotter for the cover art. I can tell you this much: The artwork will be insane!”

SPV/Steamhammer announced that it has signed the legendary New York metal band Riot:

“Few bands deserve to be talked about in such revered terms as Riot.

“Bursting through from New York City at the end of the Seventies with three ground-breaking albums on the trot (‘Rock City’, ‘Narita’ and ‘Fire Down Under’) Riot quickly became one of the biggest cult metal bands in the world. Stunning performances in the UK at the first ever Castle Donington Festival in 1980 and Port Vale the following year, and support slots with Sammy Hagar in Europe and AC/DC in the United States cemented their reputation as the hottest ticket to see.

“With line-up changes knocking their momentum and the Eighties developing into a Thrash-fest a new-look Riot bounced back in 1988 with the widely-acclaimed ‘Thundersteel’. Although the faces might have looked unfamiliar, with only guitarist Mark Reale now left from the band’s formative years, the aggression and musicianship remained unrivaled and unchallengeable. With Tony Moore’s distinctive vocals, the muscle and might of bassist Don Van Stavern and drummer Bobby Jarzombek powering the songs along, and Reale’s precision playing Riot were reborn, and followed ‘Thundersteel’ two years later with the jaw-dropping ‘The Privilege Of Power’, an inspiring and at times truly epic album. However, by this time the music world was turning into a very different place, and Riot found themselves struggling against a tide of apathy. Reale continued to guide the ship through the next two decades, delivering albums of consistent, quality metal, culminating in 2006’s ‘Army Of One’ – a true statement of intent, as if one were needed.

“But the army of one is an army of five once more as RIOT’s classic ‘Thundersteel’ and ‘Privilege…’ line-up has re-united, adding guitarist Mike Flyntz who played in the live band at that time. Signing with SPV/Steamhammer for all territories except Japan, Riot will release their new album ‘Immortal Soul’ on October 28th in Germany, October 31st in Europe and early November in the US and Canada.

Riot have also been confirmed as special guests on the first leg of HammerFall’s European tour this winter. The tour kicks off on 26th October in Copenhagen, Denmark, and ends for the five-piece metal machine in Cologne, Germany, on 18th November. This will be the first time the legendary ‘Thundersteel’ and ‘The Privilege Of Power’ line-up of Tony Moore (vocals), Mark Reale (guitar), Mike Flyntz (guitar), Don Van Stavern (bass) and Bobby Jarzombek (drums) has played in Europe on a full tour, after the band’s celebrated one-off show at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2009.

“Olly Hahn, A&R at Steamhammer, says: ‘Mark, Tony, Don, Bobby and Mike are really fired up once more, and “Immortal Soul” will be a true successor to the legacy of ‘Thundersteel’ and ‘Privilege…’. Classic metal will never die, and who did it better than Riot?’
