Mesopotamian kings of blackened thrash metal MELECHESH have announced the addition of drummer Sasha Horn to the group’s ranks.

Commented MELECHESH mainman, songwriter, singer and guitarist Ashmedi: “After a lengthy search, MELECHESH are proud to announce the inclusion of new drummer Sasha ‘Sin’ Horn. Sin as in the Mesopotamian moon god. He will be appearing on the upcoming album, which we will follow up with more details. Meanwhile, he flew in from the USA to our rehearsal room in Germany to work with the band on new material and meet the label guys and the chemistry was great. His drumming skills will sure bring in an extra kick to the new album.”

Since there were rumors and uncertainties of the current second guitarist of MELECHESH, the pioneering band clarified the situation in the following statement: “After one show, it became obvious things wouldn’t work out with Sirus, so we mutually agreed to go separate ways. For now, the position is not vacant until a great talent crosses our ways. Ashmedi will track guitars and former guitarist and longtime friend Moloch might be flying to the studio for recordings, but not touring as well. We have two great touring guitarist who are friends of ours and will step in as live session musicians.”

MELECHESH is currently writing material for its upcoming sixth album.

The band’s latest CD and Nuclear Blast debut, “The Epigenesis”, was released in 2010 and received rave reviews all over the globe, followed by eight tours with the likes of SEPTICFLESH and NILE.

Mesopotamian black/thrash pioneers MELECHESH are hard at work on pre-production for the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2010 album, “The Epigenesis”. In addition, the band has parted ways with longtime guitarist and close friend Moloch and drummer Xul. Moloch had officially been out of MELECHESH for eight months while he has been focusing on his academic career.

While it is still to be announced who will fill the drumming position, Moloch will be replaced by new guitarist Sirius (pictured below).

MELECHESH mainman Ashmedi and bass player/backing vocalist Scorpiros will debut the new lineup on the stage late fall early winter 2013 during the band’s North American tour.

Commented Ashmedi: “I talked with Moloch and asked him maybe it is better he is no longer a part of MELECHESH because we needed to have an active guitar player. He fully agreed and was thinking the exact same thing. He is one of my best friends but this has to do with MELECHESH and music — nothing else. In fact, we will be hanging out soon in Jerusalem and catching up. He is always welcome to come jam or do a guest appearance. Like I said, this man is one of the closest people to me personally. We are literally family. I wish the best of luck for his new and interesting Journey.

“A couple of weeks ago I did what I was considering for a while: I asked Xul to leave. In the past, I thought such things are impossible, but you know what, family , companies, governments, kingdoms all go through changes. In a naive or a romantic way, we all think change is not good in such cases. On the contrary, it could be extremely vital for the longevity of music. What I am trying to say is I made these decisions for the sole purpose of improving the music and preventing stagnation. I was not happy with the status quo, so I had to do something about it. I wish Xul the best of luck I am certain he enjoyed this ride which was a good learning experience for everyone. Anyway I don’t worry about him as he plays in several other bands, so it’s all good.

“I am a very loyal person — anyone with over two brain cells knows this (the ones with one brain cells do not get it…) — but my focus and priority is the well being and progress of MELECHESH.

“You can also hear some of Aybar‘s (Sirius) work on the soundtrack of the movie ‘The Last Will And Testament Of Rosalind Leigh’ where he did the entire soundtrack for this film.”

Masters of Sumerian black/thrash metal, Melechesh, have announced the release of an exclusive digital EP called “Mystics Of The Pillar II.” The EP will contain the following tracks and will be released April 27 in Europe, May 1 in the US:

01. Mystics Of The Pillar (Alternate Ending)
02. Sacred Geometry (Instrumental)
03. The Epigenesis (Instrumental)

Commented mainman Ashmedi: “We recorded two different ending version of ‘Mystics of the Pillar’ – this one changes tempo and picks up steam. Why? Because we felt like it, a song with two different endings is not too common in this day and age. Last minute we chose one to be included on the album, thus the second version was not mixed and mastered till a much later date.

“We also decided to release a couple of instrumental versions to our songs, namely ‘The Epigenesis’ title track which is a 12-13 minute epic and Sacred Geometry both are multi faceted and work perfect just as instrumental works. We actually have an instrumental version of the entire album mixed and mastered so enjoy these couple of tracks.”

Mesopotamian thrashing black metal pioneers MELECHESH are currently headed for Istanbul, Turkey to shoot the music video for the track “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin”. The song comes from the bands brand new masterpiece The Epigenesis and will be shot by Canadian director Rouzbeh Heydari. Director of cinematography and producer are Emin Murat Kılıç and Tumay Irgas.

Commented vocalist Ashmedi:

We decided to film in Istanbul in order to capitalize on the suitable and real scenery and avoid a greenscreen, the location is surreal. Choosing to film in Istanbul  also keeps us in line with The Epigenesis photo shoot and recording which were both done here. Rouzbeh, the director, flew in from Canada today and the whole band will arrive tonight. Friday we will do some pre production, Saturday and Sunday we will be shooting in two different locations. We chose ‘Grand Gathas of Baal Sin’ because it has all of the desired elements; speed, thrashiness, aggression,  mysticism and middle eastern ritualistic beats and parts.

MELECHESH will be direct support to ROTTING CHRIST on their tour next March/April 2011. MELECHESH have also uploaded the track “Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin” to their Myspace page www.myspace.com/Melechesh.

Formed in Jerusalem and now based in Europe, Melechesh blends black/death metal with Middle Eastern sounds. Their latest album is The Epigenesis. The band’s frontman/main composer Ashmedi is always an interesting interview. He’s lived all over the world, is well educated (just finished his MBA) and has an interesting perspective on music and life.
