Orange Goblin’s Ben Ward is currently hanging with the amazing trio of bands on this year’s Lords Of The Riff tour! Here’s how it’s going so far…

Day 3 – Tuesday March 18th – The Arts Centre, Colchester

Everyone was surprisingly refreshed after the Crobar last night and after some pub grub we were on the road from East London for the short drive up to Colchester. We arrived at the venue, which is stunning. It’s an old converted church set within the old roman wall of Colchester complete with it’s own ancient graveyard. As stunning as it is, it’s a pain in the arse to get a van and trailer to in order to unload and load equipment!

The band set up in quick time so that they could go for the obligatory photo shoot in the said graveyard. Scorpion Child were headlining the night and the stage looked great with the backdrop in front of a huge stained-glass window! Dinner was a delicious vegetarian Chilli that I probably ate too much of and soon the venue was filling up nicely. Again, Buffalo Summer kicked things off and they were soon followed by Monster Truck. I was half expecting the Monster Truck keyboard player to set up in the pulpit at the side of the stage! By the time Scorpion Child hit the stage the crowd had swelled and everyone was ready for the rock! Scorpion Child definitely brought it too! An hour of high energy, high volume rock and roll and again all the punters went home happy! After the show we headed off to get pizza and kebabs (again!) before having a few beers and discussing horror movies back at a friends house. And the tour rolls on…

Issues: Ignore them at your peril

R’n’b metal. Whoever you are and whatever your tastes, if you have any interest at all in alternative music, that right there is a phrase that is guaranteed to spark a reaction. Luckily, not only do Issues nail their mix of crushing riffs, nu metal flourishes and big, poppy hooks with aplomb, but they’re fast winning over legions of fans through offering something new, fresh and startlingly different in an age where people want more than just heavy verses and  catchy choruses.

They’re going to be massive and it’s going to be brilliant, and this week, the Atlanta sextet kicked off their first ever UK tour alongside Crown The Empire. They still have nine dates left to go, and we reckon you’ll struggle to have a more fun, ridiculous and banger-filled night out any time soon, so check the dates below to see if they’re hitting up a venue near you and grab your ticket. Go on.

Motorhead

Following Motörhead being forced to cut their set short at Wacken due to Lemmy’s ongoing health issues, Slash has posted an update on the progress of the rock ‘n’ roll icon.

“Visited Lemmy today; he’s doing well,” says the legendary guitarist. “There’s been a lot of rumors. But he’s in good shape and finishing Motörhead record now.”

The band themselves posted the following statement following their Wacken set:

“The show had to go on because that’s how Lemmy rolls. Even though he was not 100% fit, he refused to feel he was letting the 85,000 Wacken fans down.

“They kicked ass in the 100-plus-degree heat for a shortened, but powerful, set before Lemmy finally realized he might have bitten off a little more than he could chew. Thus, he will embark upon the recuperation recommended. We know that rumors are flying around, but once he fully recharges, Motörhead will be back, don’t you worry!”

New Motörhead album Aftershock is due later this year, and the band are due to play the following UK dates with Saxon in the Autumn:

Weds 13th November 2013 – NOTTINGHAM Royal Concert
Thur 14th November 2013 – NEWCASTLE City Hall
Sat 16th November 2013 – LONDON Brixton O2 Academy
Sun 17th November 2013 – LONDON Brixton O2 Academy*
Tue 19th November 2013 – WOLVERHAMPTON Civic Hall
Wed 20th November 2013 – MANCHESTER O2 Apollo
Fri 22nd November 2013 – GLASGOW O2 Academy

* No Saxon performance
