You may already know of Inferion’s “The Desolate,” the black metal whirlwind from Mr. Everything Nick Reyes. But in 2003 Reyes recorded an EP of blast-beaten, aggressive melodic death metal called “Aborted By the Sun” that was recorded under the name Farewell My Angel. The original plan to release the EP was halted after the hard drive with the original mixes/master was damaged in a fire. A recent discovery of those original files led Iraq War veteran Reyes to re-record much of the EP when time permitted during Army Special Forces and Selection Training at Fort Bragg, GA. The EP has now been released under the Inferion banner. Check out the tracklisting and cover art below for “Aborted By the Sun.”

KISS are back!

KISS bassist and mercurial money maker Gene Simmons talks to Metal Hammer in our new issue about new album Monster, the state of rock ‘n’ roll today, why Peter and Ace could never have been in KISS in 2012 and, interestingly, politicians talking shit.

“You have to take stock and help the people that made your life possible,” says Gene on the band’s decision to donate the proceedings of their recent London show to armed forces charity Help For Heroes. “Politicians do shit. They fart through their mouths even if they’re well-meaning. They’re not going to protect you – the only people that make our lives possible are people who volunteer to risk life and limb.”

Gene also laughed at the idea that KISS have been behind a few crazy ideas in their time, adding; “I didn’t think any of them were crazy! I think all my ideas are great, which in itself is pretty crazy. When we started 40 years ago, if someone told me that one day we’d have the KISS golf course in Vegas, the KISS Coffee House,  the Hello Kitty KISS deal…I’d have thought, ‘Yeah right!’ But anything impossible has the word ‘possible’ in it.”

Wanna hear more? Well you’re not a total bell end, are you?

Looks nice, right? Order the new issue, then!

In the brand new issue of Metal Hammer, we have an exclusive chat with Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison about his incredible life and career, playing for Metallica, the future of Murderdolls and the loss of his best friend, Paul Gray.

“When we started Slipknot I knew right then that this band would turn the world upside down,” he notes. “I had my first practice on September 25 1995 when we were called The Pale Ones. Shawn was playing drums back then, but he wanted to become a frontman and play percussion, so I took over drums and we started building the band from that point.”

Slipknot: obliterating venues around the world since forever

“The first song we wrote was (sic), which was really slow when we first wrote it. It almost had a Ministry vibe, with that industrial flavour and hypnotic groove to it. Then we started to figure out the really intense kind of music we wanted to make and sped it up!”

Fancy hearing more? of course you do; you’re not a total wally.
