MONSTER MAGNET will release its new album, “Last Patrol”, in North America on October 15 via Napalm Records. The CD was produced by Dave Wyndorf and Phil Caivano, while “Evil” Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, BAD RELIGION) mixed the album, with additional production duties handled by Matt Hyde. The artwork was created by Johun Sumrow with consultation coming from Chris Ryall and designs by Ryan Clark for Invisible Creatures Inc. The album will be available as a limited edition CD, standard CD, 2LP and digital format.

In support of “Last Patrol”, MONSTER MAGNET will embark on a full-blown North American tour. Although the band has toured Europe relentlessly over the past decade, this is MONSTER MAGNET‘s first full North American tour in over 10 years. Support will come from Prosthetic artist ZODIAC. The tour is scheduled to kick off November 14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and will run through December 14 in New York City.

Frontman and MONSTER MAGNET mastermind Dave Wyndorf checked in with his thoughts about “Last Patrol”: “‘Last Patrol’ is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style. It’s full-on psychedelic space-rock with a ’60s garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, New Jersey. The songs are a kind of space-noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It’s a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. [laughs] The lyrics aren’t fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that’s where these lyrics get trippy. There’s also our cover version of DONOVAN‘s ‘Three Kingfishers’, which I thought fit the mood of the album.”

He continued: “‘Last Patrol’ was produced by Phil Caivano and myself with an effort to bring a homegrown feel to the whole affair. We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil‘s Studio 13 recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale MONSTER MAGNET album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one.”

On September 9, Dave Kim of the Grand Rapids, Michigan radio station WGRD 97.9 FM conducted an interview with HALESTORM at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. You can now watch the chat below.

HALESTORM will release a new EP called “ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVerRs eP” on October 15. The six-song EP follows up 2011’s “ReAniMate”, which featured the band’s renditions of songs by SKID ROW, GUNS N’ ROSES, LADY GAGA and THE BEATLES. The new collection will feature tracks originally written and recorded by JUDAS PRIEST, DAFT PUNK, AC/DC, PAT BENATAR, FLEETWOOD MAC and MARILYN MANSON.

The Pulse Of Radio asked singer Lzzy Hale if the band had ever been denied permission to record a song for one of these EPs. “We were denied after the fact, actually, on the last cover EP,” she said. “We thought we had gotten approval for ‘Out Ta Get Me’ by GUNS N’ ROSES, and apparently everybody had approved it but Axl [Rose] — but nobody told him. So we had recorded it, we released it, and then he found out and I guess — what was the stipulation? We, like, could do it digitally but not physically, which I thought was kind of weird.”

Hale said about the new EP, “Like our first ‘ReAniMate’ EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves. We decided to go more ‘bare bones’ with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real.”

HALESTORM won the Grammy Award for “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” for the track “Love Bites (So Do I)”, from the band’s second album, “The Strange Case Of…”

The latest single from the 2012 release is “Here’s To Us”, which was also featured on a February 2012 episode of “Glee”.

HALESTORM is currently on a North American tour that ends in early October, after which the band will head to Europe. But they’ll be back in late November for one more round of North American shows to finish out the year.

Ned of the WGRD 97.9 FM radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan recently conducted an interview with the Los Angeles-based, occult-themed traditional heavy metal band HUNTRESS. You can now watch the chat below.

HUNTRESS‘ sophomore album, “Starbound Beast”, was released on June 28 in Europe and on July 2 in North America via Napalm Records. The CD was recorded at Hobby Shop Studios in Los Angeles with producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris (SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED, MUNICIPAL WASTE). The cover artwork for the effort was once again created by Vance Kelly (THE SWORD, GRAVEYARD, HIGH ON FIRE, PENTAGRAM, ALICE IN CHAINS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, DEATH ANGEL), who previously worked on the group’s debut album, last year’s “Spell Eater”.

Director Phil Mucci, who helmed the “Zenith” clip, spoke about working with HUNTRESS singer Jill Janus: “Jill doesn’t compromise; she wanted something her fans would cherish for years to come. In a disposable world, she’s very conscious of her legacy, as am I. It’s more than a music video to us. It’s a gateway drug.”

Jill cannot wait for the fans to see “Zenith”. “You better pack your bongs now, ‘cuz this is going to trip you the fuck out!” she says.

HUNTRESS is ecstatic about our new music video for ‘Zenith’.

“Director Phil Mucci is a visionary who brought our galactic hallucinations to life.

HUNTRESS dedicates ‘Zenith’ to our fans who’ve inspired us on this path, and who continue to travel with us on our cosmic musical journey. Together we will smoke the galaxies and blaze a new future for true heavy metal!”

“Starbound Beast” includes the track “I Want to Fuck You to Death”, which was co-written for Jill Janus by legendary MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

In a recent interview with Examiner.com, Janus stated about HUNTRESS‘ musical evolution from “Spell Eater” to “Starbound Beast”: “When we recorded ‘Spell Eater’ in 2012, we were still such a new band, we were still developing our sound and we were still trying things out. And we put it out with a fury and we love that record. This time around with ‘Starbound Beast’, we were a little more thoughtful with it, my lyrical content is a little bit more advanced, as well as an overall new confidence in the band. The musicianship is better, the songwriting is better, and it’s the evolution of HUNTRESS. That’s what’s going on here, it’s naturally evolving and that’s really cool to see.”
