“As I Drown”, the new video from the London, U.K.-based modern metal mob THE DEFILED, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s second album, “Daggers”, which was released on August 2 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The cover artwork was designed and executed by Scott Chalmers, the band’s longtime photographer.

Comments THE DEFILED keyboardist The AvD: “‘As I Drown’ was one of the first songs written for this album. We had been playing it live for more than a year before we even booked the studio to record ‘Daggers’. It’s about a certain record company executive that brought THE DEFILED to a stand still for whole year. THE DEFILED is the most important thing in our lives so we took that very seriously.”

Adds THE DEFILED frontman Stitch D: “We shot this video in a mountain range in the north of England in the middle of winter. The wind was insane to the point of constantly blowing the drums and amps over even though we used rocks to hold them down. It was a fun day shooting but a very tough one.”

Having released its debut album “Grave Times” via Metal Hammer magazine in 2011, THE DEFILED has since enjoyed status as the U.K.’s biggest unsigned metal acts. Making huge strides forward on their own, their achievements as a self motivated and independent band in the world of heavy music, which includes sold-out tours, prestigious slots at the biggest festivals and a Golden God Award, is remarkable. Their unwillingness to compromise or settle for anything less than their ambition dictates has got them this far; this alliance with indie metal powerhouse Nuclear Blast Entertainment now sets the sky as the limit.

Asking Alexandria: The UK’s bright young hopes?

More awesome new music heading your way this week, courtesy of a variety of killer bands.

Asking Alexandria are already one of the biggest UK metal bands of recent years, but with new opus From Death To Destiny, it really feels like they’re finally producing the music to match the profile. Stacked with great tunes and packing enough hooks to snag a killer whale, it’s an album to win over the doubters and, most importantly, lose all our shit to. Give it a go:

Debut Newsted album Heavy Metal Music is the first full solo outing from former Metallica bassist and general lad, Jason Newsted. The phrase “does what it says on the tin” is a bit misused at the best of times, but in this case, it’s pretty damn apt. Expect huge, thrash-infused heavy metal jams.

Speaking of huge, one of the most eagerly anticipated follow-ups of 2013 also drops today, as The Defiled look to continue staking their claim as the most exciting metal band to come out of London in years. Daggers picks up where ace debut Grave Times left off; thunderous, industrial-fused riffs and swaggering choruses that will have you singing your lungs out this year, whether you like it or not.

Finally, one of the nuttiest bands on the planet releases their third album today, and unsurprisingly it’s more of the same schizophrenic, genre-splicing madness. Late For Nothing is iwrestledabearonce’s third full-length and first with new singer Courtney LaPlante. Luckily, it’s just as badass as everything else they’ve done so far. As usual, expect the unexpected.

Well? GET GOING, PEOPLE!

The Defiled: big things a-comin’

We’ve been backing The Defiled for big things right from the start and even gave away their awesome debut, Grave Times, with this very magazine, so we’re beyond delighted to announce that the London metallers have signed with metal mega-label Nuclear Blast! YES, lads!

To celebrate, the guys have released an official lyric video for a brand new track, Sleeper, taken from new album Daggers, which you can expect to drop this summer via NB.

“We’re ecstatic to announce that we are signing to Nuclear Blast Entertainment,” says frontman Stitch D. “After years of being an independent band and doing everything DIY we can’t wait to have such a huge label and great team behind us to take us to the next level. It’s an honour to be working with a label that have released some of our favourite bands of all time.”

“It’s amazing to get the seal of approval from Nuclear Blast, all the years of barely scraping by and putting literally everything in to The Defiled have finally been recognised by the amazing team that is Mark Palmer and Monte Conner,” adds keyboardist/band nutcase The AvD. “We have wanted to work with these guys for years now and our dream is being realised. Signing to Nuclear Blast means we can now go worldwide and do this thing properly, the way we have always envisioned in our heads.”

Get yourself some of Sleeper, which will be available to buy from iTunes this Sunday (March 17), below:
