KidsInterviewBands.com, a video interview series hosted by 7th-graders Olivia and Connie, conducted an interview with Josh Homme and Dean Fertita of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE on September 15 at The LC in Columbus, Ohio. You can now watch the chat below.

According to KidsInterviewBands.com, Olivia and Connie “are active in sports and other activities that typical 7th-graders enjoy. They aren’t sure if they want to make a living interviewing bands, but they are having a lot of fun getting the chance to talk to all the great artists who have agreed to sit down and chat with them.”

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE‘s latest album, “…Like Clockwork”, sold 91,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. Issued on June 4 via Matador Records, the disc follows up “Era Vulgaris”, which opened with 52,000 units back in June 2007 to enter the chart at No. 14. The band’s 2005 offering “Lullabies to Paralyze” registered a first-week tally of nearly 97,000 copies, to debut at No. 5.

Jonathan Davis: not BFFs with Jesus

In our mega current issue, out now, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis discusses Head’s return, his issues with religion and the Bakersfield legends’ new album, The Paradigm Shift.

Your tattoo sleeve (depicting abuses by the church) strongly suggests that you’re not keen on religion.

“Well not the Catholic Church. I’m not into the Bible, I just believe in a higher power. I also believe in a lower power, I believe in balance. I don’t judge nobody, but the thing with Head is I was so pissed off and talking so much shit because I lost so many people to the fucking Church. They go born-again Christian and they’re like, ‘I can’t do this no more’. Great artists…That church has raped thousands of cultures. I just have a big hard-on against it. Not that I’m a Satanist or anything, but to lose my brother to that…I was pissed!”

And yet at the same time it saved your friend?

“Yeah, if that’s the crutch you need, whether it’s AA or whatever, it’s a good thing. I was mad that I lost him to that, but the kicker is I ended up moving back to my hometown and my kids go to that same church. That pastor is the only pastor I have ever met that I have any respect for. He doesn’t preach to me or anything, we just hang out.”

A look inside our new issue

Is there any chance of original drummer David Silveria coming back?

“No. I don’t wanna say any negative stuff, but where we’re at right now is perfect and Ray [Luzier] is an amazing drummer. He fits in good and doesn’t have any typical drummer’s complexes.”

“Heavy Metal Music”, the debut album from NEWSTED — the new band featuring former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok — sold nearly 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 40 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available on August 6 in North America via Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds and August 5 in Europe through Spinefarm Records. Jason told Billboard.com the 11-song album was very similar to the band’s debut EP, “Metal”, which opened with around 6,200 units to debut at No. 62. “The EP was always intended to be the primer, a sampler of what was to come on the LP,” he said. “It’s all metal all the time. It’s not all fast, but it is all heavy.”

Regarding how the material for NEWSTED‘s debut album came together, Jason told Loudwire: “It started out as my seeds for the first eleven songs that I made on my GarageBand thing. I wrote all the tracks — guitars, bass, drums, everything and gave them to Jessie [Farnsworth, guitar] and Jesus [Mendez Jr., drums] and had them go learn it, put their artistry on it and so it was collaborative in that way for the first batch. Like the four songs on the EP came from that initial eleven, so that’s how those songs went. Each day as we get deeper into the songs, the collaboration gets deeper as well. I have come a long way from my tunnel vision of ‘Only my ideas are good enough’ bullshit, and I’m a lot more open to everyone’s ideas and the artistry of each person to make it what it is. And three heads is better than one and that kind of thing. So it has become more collaborative as we go. I’ve written ten more since that time in October last year and a few of them have made their way onto this LP now. Once again, they were all my seeds, but now that we have Mike Mushok in the band and I give the music to all three of those guys, now I have three great artists bringing back their responses and their counterpoint playing to my ideas, so it’s becoming more and more collaborative every day and on this LP there will be shared writing credits on at least half of the songs with the writing credits now.”

“Heavy Metal Music” track listing:

01. Heroic Dose
02. Soldierhead
03. …As The Crow Flies
04. Ampossible
05. Long Time Dead
06. Above All
07. King Of The Underdogs
08. Nocturnus
09. Twisted Tail Of The Comet
10. Kindevillusion
11. Futureality

NEWSTED took part in this year’s edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. Also appearing on the bill were headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, HELLYEAH and DEATH DIVISION.

Swedish Viking metallers King Of Asgard will release “…to North” this coming July 31st via Metal Blade Records. In collaboration with MetalInjection.net, King Of Asgard now premiering the “The Nine Worlds Burn” video clip. Check out the video at this location or in the player below.

King of Asgard comments on the video shoot: “Why look further, when one is surrounded by great artists? Again, King of Asgard teamed up with the ‘Einhärjar’ video creator, Rickard Monéus and the 1897 crew including Andreas Edelönn. The production set up took place in the depths of a forest close to King of Asgard’s rehearsal lair. A late night in May – dusk and burdened raindrops. Perfect conditions for creating works of ruin. Searching to reflect the mythological end-of-this-world theme of ‘The Nine Worlds Burn,’ Rickard and Andreas produced a video full of ritualistic and apocalyptic visuals that perfectly enhance the song’s sense of dread and destruction. A result we are all proud to present. That depict and burn the crust of the earth!”

The album’s track listing is as follows:

1. Intro
2. The Nine Worlds Burn
3. The Dispossessed
4. Gap of Ginnungs
5. Bound to Reunite
6. Nordvegr
7. Up on the Mountain
8. Plague-ridden Rebirth
9. Harvest (The End)
10. …to North
