SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor was interviewed by Artisan News at this past Monday’s (March 17) exclusive VIP listening party for the Ronnie James Dio tribute album “This Is Your Life” and awards gala at the Avalon in Hollywood, California. Check out the chat below.

As previously reported, Taylor shows up briefly in the first trailer for “Fear Clinic”, an upcoming horror film in which Taylor makes his acting debut. The film stars Robert Englund, best known as Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare On Elm Street”, as Dr. Andover, a doctor who treats patients afflicted with crippling phobias by inducing hallucinations inside an invention he calls the Fear Chamber.

Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio what it was like to work with a horror icon like Englund. “One of the coolest dudes I’ve ever met,” he said. “You know, we were sitting in the makeup trailer and he’s telling me stories from the ’80s of being at the Rainbow with GUNS N’ ROSES and I’m like, ‘Please tell me more!’ You know? Sweetest dude I’ve ever met, super fun, super awesome and we had a really good time like making that stuff. And I had a handful of scenes with him and I, I had a really good time.”

In the film, Taylor will play a clinic employee named Bauer who struggles to keep things under control when all hell breaks loose. The movie will center around one traumatic event that induces phobias in a group of different people.

Also appearing in the movie, which began life in 2009 as a five-episode series for the web site FearNet.com, is Lucas Till from “X-Men: First Class”, Danielle Harris of “Halloween 4″ fame and Kane Hodder, best known for playing Jason in several of the “Friday The 13th” movies.

There is no word yet on a release date for the film, although producers are aiming for Halloween 2014.

Taylor is one of a number of well-known musicians from the metal and hardcore scenes who recently joined forces with singer/bassist Mike Dean and singer/drummer Reed Mullin of hardcore punk veterans CORROSION OF CONFORMITY to create the new project TEENAGE TIME KILLER.

The instrumental parts for the upcoming debut release from TEENAGE TIME KILLER, which is named after a RUDIMENTARY PENI song, were recorded at Dave Grohl‘s (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA) Studio 606 in Northridge, California on the famous Sound City mixing board, which was the central focus of Grohl‘s acclaimed “Sound City: Real To Reel” documentary.

Taylor and the rest of SLIPKNOT are currently at the work on the band’s first studio album in six years, which should arrive in late 2014.

DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott was interviewed on this morning’s (Tuesday, March 18) edition of “The Heidi & Frank Show” on KLOS 95.5 FM radio station in Los Angeles, California. You can now watch video footage of his appearance below.

As previously reported, DEF LEPPARD and KISS have announced one of the hottest double bills of the summer, with the bands joining forces to hit both arenas and sheds all over North America. The tour kicks off on June 23 in West Valley, Utah at the USANA Amphitheater and winds down on August 31 in Woodlands, Texas at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

The two bands held a joint press conference on L.A.’s Sunset Strip at the House Of Blues. According to The Pulse Of Radio, Elliott shed light on how the two bands actually came together. “One and one make three in these situations. Two great bands going out together. There will be no dead time — there will be no dead air space. Y’know, it’ll be, hits, hits, hits.

“‘Bout two years ago, myself and Gene [Simmons] did a little tour of South America, under the guise of the ROCK N’ ROLL ALL STARS — a bunch of guys from GUNS N’ ROSES and BILLY IDOL, and what have you. And other than trying to out-do each other with obscure British bands like the IDLE RACE and the PINK FAIRIES — who knew each band better — we discussed doing this as well; that one day DEF LEPPARD and KISS would tread the boards together, as it were, and it’s finally happened, which is fantastic.”

DEF LEPPARD released a Deluxe Edition of its 1996 classic album “Slang” across multiple formats through its own Bludgeon Riffola label on February 10.

Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary drummer of GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER and THE CULT, Matt Sorum released his new album, “Stratosphere”, under the moniker MATT SORUM’S FIERCE JOY on March 11 on Rok Dok Recordings via Kobalt Label Services.

“Stratosphere” is major departure from the hard-hitting rock Sorum is best known for. His intense passion for animal and human rights, and need to give back heavily influenced the narrative and acoustic orchestration of the album.

“Over the years, I’ve been influenced by my surroundings and sometimes that hasn’t always been for the better,” says Sorum. “But after years of soul searching, I organically fell into a different state of mind.

“With many lessons learned along the way, it seemed like the perfect time to do a record in my own voice, if you will. It’s as real and exposed as anything I’ve ever offered my in my career, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Besides stepping behind the mic for lead vocals, Sorum wrote the entire album, and plays acoustic guitar and piano.

“I’ve always played acoustic, so I wanted to use that as the feel of the record,” Matt says.

“I chose the musicians I wanted by records they had played on, and diverse instruments such as mellotron, slide guitar and ethnic percussion.

“I always wanted orchestration, so this album was the canvas for that as well.”

The official “Stratosphere” trailer can be seen below.

MATT SORUM’S FIERCE JOY“Stratosphere” track listing:

01. Intro – Stratosphere Part 1
02. The Sea
03. What Ziggy Says
04. For the Wild Ones
05. Goodbye To You
06. Gone
07. Lady of the Stone
08. Ode to Nick Drake
09. Blue
10. Josephine
11. Land of the Pure
12. Killers N Lovers
13. The Lonely Teardrop
14. Outro – Stratosphere Part 2

Speaking to The Street, Sorum stated about his inspiration for the “Stratosphere” CD: “I’m known as a rock guy, but I’ve always loved so many diverse artists. I was a huge Joni Mitchell fan; I remember listening to a lot of her records back to back. Neil Young, Tom Petty, THE BEATLES, of course, and I was a huge Bowie fan. I was also into progressive stuff, like early GENESIS, Peter Gabriel era. You can hear that influence on the new album; there are a couple of songs that have some interesting time changes.

“I’ve always dabbled on the acoustic guitar, and I wrote a couple songs for VELVET REVOLVER. In GUNS N’ ROSES, Axl [Rose] and Slash looked to me for arrangements. I wasn’t the predominant songwriter, but I’ve always been involved in the process.

“When I put ‘Stratosphere’ together, I actually had a lot of it on cassette. I’d been writing the songs over the years, and I wanted to do an album that was just coming from me, regardless of anyone’s expectations.”

Asked if MATT SORUM’S FIERCE JOY will go out on tour, Sorum said: “We’re going to tour, but it isn’t going to be a typical rock show. If I’m going to front a band, I can’t see myself, at my age, jumping up and playing rock and roll the way Dave Grohl does. Dave pulls it off, running around the stage with an electric guitar. But would that feel right for me? How can I make this feel natural, a natural progression, growing into the man that I finally feel that I am, and saying what I want to say now?”

Slash and Myles Kennedy played an acoustic version of the GUNS N’ ROSES classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine” during the after-party for the first-ever motion picture Slash has co-produced, “Nothing Left To Fear”, on Wednesday, September 25 in Hollywood, California. Video footage of the performance can be seen below.

On October 4, Slash will release the soundtrack album for “Nothing Left To Fear” via his company Slasher Films. “Nothing Left To Fear The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” will be released on October 4, exclusively at PledgeMusic.com, the same day the film opens in select theaters.

Written and produced by Slash and Nick O’Toole, the “Nothing Left To Fear” soundtrack includes the film score plus two original songs: “Nothing Left To Fear”, which features vocalist Myles Kennedy, and the instrumental “Welcome To Stull”.

Available on Blu-ray Combo-pack, DVD and On Demand starting Tuesday, October 8, “Nothing Left To Fear” is a harrowing tale in the spirit of the terrifying horror films of the 1970s. The movie is inspired by the legend of Stull, Kansas, which is surrounded by Internet folklore proclaiming the town to be one of the Seven Gateways to Hell. Wendy (Anne Heche), her husband Dan (James Tupper of “Revenge”) and their kids have just moved to the small town of Stull, Kansas, where Dan is the new pastor. But in this sleepy community of friendly neighbors, a horrific series of occurrences awaits them: Their teenage daughter (Rebekah Brandes of “Bellflower”) is being tormented by grisly visions. Her younger sister (Jennifer Stone of “Wizards Of Waverly Place”) has been marked for a depraved ritual. And deep within the heartland darkness, one of The Seven Gates Of Hell demands the blood of the innocent to unleash the creatures of the damned. Ethan Peck (“10 Things I Hate About You”) and Clancy Brown (“The Shawshank Redemption”) co-star in this demonic shocker featuring original music by producer Slash and inspired by the real-life paranormal legacy of Stull.

“Nothing Left To Fear” is the first film from Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Slash‘s production company Slasher Films, and was written by Jonathon W.C. Mills and directed by Anthony Leonardi III.

“As a longtime fan of the horror genre, I want to produce films that are in an older tradition of the genre,” said Slash. “That is to say, films that leave more to one’s imagination, that are psychologically scary and character-driven, and what scares you is more cerebral than superficial. Slasher Films is my vehicle to realize that aim, and ‘Nothing Left To Fear’ is the first film with more to come.”

On Wednesday, September 25, San Antonio, Texas’ Kens5.com conducted an interview with DEF LEPPARD members Rick Savage (bass) and Joe Elliott (vocals). You can now watch the segment below.

DEF LEPPARD‘s recent Las Vegas extravaganza will hit the silver screen for two nights in October. NCM Fathom Events together with AEG Live and Network Live are bringing DEF LEPPARD “Viva! Hysteria” concert to over 250 theaters across the country with a full front-to-back performance of 1987′s multi-platinum “Hysteria” album — along with a healthy dose of the band’s greatest hits. Tickets for the screenings are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Joe Elliott shed some light DEF LEPPARD‘s recent Vegas residency at the 4,000-capacity Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, explaining, “We’ve been asked for many years if we’d ever play an album in its entirety, and the answer was always no because we’d be out promoting a new album. Then in March and April 2013 when we had no new music to promote, we had a chance to revisit arguably our most important album. It was an easy decision to make.”

He went on to say that the stigma involved in rock musicians playing “Sin City” has long passed: “As for Vegas, it’s no longer perceived as the place crooners go to die! Artists like MÖTLEY CRÜE, ELTON JOHN, GUNS N’ ROSES and CHEAP TRICK have recently done residencies and rock n’ roll has definitely moved in! So, there was no better place for us to take the show. It was a fantastic experience for us and for our fans.”

Joe Elliott told The Pulse Of Radio that the band’s humble beginnings back in England never even hinted at where they’d be today. “35 years after starting out in a little school in Sheffield, and then the next thing we’re doing a residency in Vegas,” he said. “It was never on the agenda back then, y’know? But being in a band more than seven or eight years wasn’t either. So, at this moment in time you’re just kinda making things up as you go along, because, things just keep appearing for us. Like; ‘Hey — you guys fancy doing this?’ ‘Well, that’s something we’ve never done.’ And as soon as we can say that out loud, it’s appealing for us to do it, ”cause it gets you off the treadmill.”

The theatrical showings will be followed by a companion DVD, Blu-ray and live album that Elliott tells Billboard.com will chronicle “the whole shebang” — not only the “Hysteria” set but all of the other songs DEF LEPPARD played over the two nights the show was filmed.

“VIVA! Hysteria – Live at the Joint, Las Vegas” will be made available on CD, Blu-ray disc, DVD Video, and digital download in October at your favorite music retailer.

Nick Krewen of GRAMMY.com recently conducted an interview with legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

GRAMMY.com: Congratulations on venturing into film with your own company, Slasher Films. Has this been a lifelong ambition?

Slash: No. It came out of nowhere, and the only way I can put it is that I had absolutely no aspirations to be a movie producer, but [I've loved] horror movies ever since I can remember and I had a very rare conversation [with another producer] where I got to express and vent my passion for horror movies — what I think is wrong with the new ones and what I think is great with the old ones. It was, from the ground up, developing this particular script and getting it to where we wanted it, and then going and casting and getting the director and meeting all these distributors … and announcing Slasher [Films] as an entity. It was really an interesting and tough struggle to get the money [for] an indie kind of thing, and it was fun.

GRAMMY.com: After this first experience, are you hungry to do it again?

Slash: Yeah, I’m looking for scripts now, trying to find that story or script that has the right elements that I can sink my teeth into and say, “This will make a great Slasher film.” A lot of people are sending me stuff now and it’s all roughly predictable. So I’m definitely looking for something different and I want a memorable sort of villain — something you could make a Halloween costume out of — something with a personality. And we have to have good actors. I want to concentrate on spending money on actors as opposed to CGI or any other of the expensive elements of making a movie.

GRAMMY.com: You’ve collaborated with an amazingly diverse group of artists — from Michael Jackson and Carole King to Iggy Pop and Fergie. Has there been anyone who has eluded you?

Slash: Well, Stevie Wonder and I have mentioned playing together a handful of times, and we still have never done it. That’s the only one that comes to mind. The rest of them — there’s not any forethought. It’s something where you meet in the lobby of a hotel or you’re at a function, or something, and maybe you’re introduced. And you naturally get to talking music, and you think you might wanna jam sometime, and that’s how those things really are born. The only time I’ve had to put some forethought into working with other musicians was when I was putting together my [2010] solo record [“Slash”] with all the different singers. That was really the first time where I had to reach out to set musicians to be able to work with them. Other than that, it’s really a spontaneous thing.
