“Diamond Blade”, the new video from CIRCLE II CIRCLE, will be released on Thursday, March 20. The clip is largely comprised of in-concert footage shot by CIRCLE II CIRCLE fans at shows during the band’s 2013 tour of Europe, Brazil, and the USA.

Comments CIRCLE II CIRCLE lead vocalist Zak Stevens: “We wanted to capture the everyday life vibe on tour and show some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that we see from our viewpoint on the road. These are the things that make the time on tour go by lightning fast for the guys in the band, but also make memories that last a lifetime.

“This video is dedicated to all of the fans, bands, crew, agents, and support personnel who made this tour possible.”

CIRCLE II CIRCLE is currently working on its next studio album, tentatively scheduled for release in the fall.

CIRCLE II CIRCLE‘s sixth studio album, “Seasons Will Fall”, was released on January 25, 2013 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

Formed in 2001, CIRCLE II CIRCLE has always reinvented itself throughout the years, constantly maintaining the signature sound that fans around the world love. The turning point for the band came in 2012 with CIRCLE II CIRCLE‘s monumental performance of the entire SAVATAGE album “The Wake Of Magellan” at the world’s largest heavy metal festival, Wacken Open Air in Germany. What followed was a sold-out European club tour.

“Seasons Will Fall” is CIRCLE II CIRCLE‘s strongest album to date from both a musical and production standpoint. It blends Stevens‘ history and unique “SAVATAGE style” with the fresh sounds he developed with his current outfit. From the howling guitar riffs on “Diamond Blade” and “Killing Death” to the energetic sound of “Never Gonna Stop”, it contains everything you want from a heavy rock album.

In an interview with Metal Babe, Stevens said about the CD, “The record is sounding really great and the goal of this album from the beginning was for it to be the best CIRCLE II CIRCLE to date. Of course, that’s a lofty goal, but I really think we’ve done it here with ‘Seasons Will Fall’.”

He added, “From the beginning, we wanted it to have some elements of all five previous releases, along with some entirely new sounding stuff. So that’s basically what we’ve done with ‘Seasons Will Fall’. We’re really happy with how it turned out.”

Asked if there is a certain theme or concept that this CD focuses on, Zak said, “Being that it’s not a concept album, the record focuses on a variety of different subjects. What I notice right away in the music and the lyrics is the amount of introspection of everyday life. Because of this, it really reminds me of our first album, ‘Watching In Silence’. It really has that sort of feel to it. It also reminds me of ‘Burden Of Truth’ in some ways, too, but this one’s definitely not a concept album in that sense.”

Hamburg, Germany based avant-garde metal act Todtgelichter (which was covered in our look at non-traditional black metal ) is currently looking for a new guitar player due to the imminent departure of longtime member Claudio. The band comments: “With a dedicated new guitar player we aim to strengthen our live presence in 2014 and to start the composing process for album number 5. “We are searching for YOU: you are no rookie, you have a sense for melodies and songwriting, you play tight, groovy and in time and (ideally) are familiar with the songs of our last two albums ‘Angst’ and ‘Apnoe.’ Furthermore, you are able to rehearse twice a week in Hamburg/Hamm; you like rehearsing as much as playing live and you are always looking to improve your playing and to broaden your musical horizon.

DEEP PURPLE will release the track “Above And Beyond” as a CD-single and on seven-inch vinyl on October 25 in Europe. The single artwork was based on the original graphic work of Black Dwarf Designs.

A promotional video for the single can be seen below.

“Above And Beyond” comes off DEEP PURPLE‘s latest album, “Now What?!”, which sold 4,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 115 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Now What?!”, the 19th studio album from DEEP PURPLE, was released in North America on April 30 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD contain 11 tracks, including “Out Of Hand”, “Weirdistan”, “Uncommon Man” and “Above And Beyond”. The latter song references the band’s late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric “Souls having touched are forever entwined.”

In a recent interview with RadioMetal.com, DEEP PURPLE singer Ian Gillan stated about the songwriting process for “Now What?!”: “There were no rules. We started with nothing, except the right attitude; that’s all. Every day, it was the same routine: the guys walked in at noon and we all worked until 6 o’clock on the writing sessions. We just stopped at 3 o’clock for a cup of tea. After 6 o’clock, we would go home, have a shower, some dinner and go to bed early, even if I’m always up in the middle of the night, writing lyrics. We start at 10 o’ clock the next morning when we’re recording. But the writing is always noon until six. It starts with nothing. Ian [Paice, drummer] and Roger [Glover, bassist] would start jamming, playing for an hour non-stop and trying out some rhythms or grooves. They would stop and say, ‘No, that’s not good,’ then start something else and say, ‘Remember that. Maybe on Thursday we’ll try this again and maybe it’ll be a song.’ Everything emerged from jamming sessions.”

“The Right To Rock” podcast recently conducted an interview with former FACE DOWN and current THE RESISTANCE/THE HAUNTED frontman Marco Aro. You can now listen to the chat using the audio playerbelow.

THE RESISTANCE‘s full-length debut, “Scars”, was released on May 10 in Europe and May 14 in the U.S. via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group. The 12-track CD is reminiscent of the good old days of Swedish death metal back in the 1980s/1990s when bands like ENTOMBED, GRAVE and DISMEMBER proved how insanely brutal and relentless, yet immensely captivating and technically adept extreme music can be. Well, apparently some established Swedish musicians did miss them, so they put things right: They brought back the old Swedish death metal.

“If you listen to ENTOMBED‘s ‘Left Hand Path’ today, it still blows everything away. And it’s over 20 years old,” says THE RESISTANCE/ex-IN FLAMES guitarist Jesper Strömblad. “[It's] just awesome death metal!”

THE RESISTANCE released its debut EP, “Rise From Treason”, in North America on January 29 via earMUSIC. The EP was made available on CD, limited-edition seven-inch vinyl and as a digital download.

The band last year parted ways with bassist Alex Losbäck Holstad (ex-DESPITE, DECAMERON, CARDINAL SIN) and recruited Claudio Oyarzo, the guitarist in the progressive metal band MINORA, as its new bassist.

The song “Eye For An Eye” was originally made available on the sampler CD that was distributed to the subscribers of Sweden’s Close-Up Magazine in the August 2011 issue.

THE RESISTANCE made its live debut on October 8, 2011 at Club Distortion in Stockholm, Sweden.

THE RESISTANCE‘s lineup is as follows:

* Marco Aro (FACE DOWN, THE HAUNTED) – Vocals
* Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) – Guitar
* Glenn Ljungström (IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) – Guitar
* Chris Barkensjö (CARNAL FORGE, GODSIC, GRAVE) – Drums
* Claudio Oyarzo (MINORA) – Bass

Strömblad quit IN FLAMES in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.

On September 10, drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) was interviewed backstage at the Knust club in Hamburg, Germany prior to THE WINERY DOGS‘ concert at the venue. You can now watch the chat below.

THE WINERY DOGS‘ self-titled debut album sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on July 23 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15 via Victor Entertainment, the CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER.

“Bands like [LED] ZEPPELIN and THE WHO, THE [ROLLING] STONES, and THE BEATLES, CREAM, and [Jimi] Hendrix. I mean, I grew up with that stuff,” Portnoy told Voice Of America. “And, although I’ve been able to pay tribute to it throughout my career with tribute bands and things like that, I’ve never been in an all-original band that was kind of playing classic rock power trio stuff. That’s how I describe this band: just a straight-up rock band.”

Regarding the songwriting process for THE WINERY DOGS‘ album, Portnoy said: “In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like ‘Damaged’ and ‘Regret’, we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were.”

Portnoy was full of praise for his THE WINERY DOGS bandmates, telling Voice Of America: “Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player on earth and he has been for almost 30 years now. So to work with him and make music with him for me is an honor. And Richie is someone I have the utmost respect for as an artist. I mean, he is just so underappreciated, not only as a guitarist, but as a singer and a writer as well. I think for me, the most exciting aspect of this band is for people to discover Richie that aren’t aware of what a musical genius he is.”

MetalSymphonique.com recently conducted an interview with former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen. You can now watch the chat in two parts below.

Tarja Turunen released a new single, “Victim Of Ritual”, as a digital download, CD single and on seven-inch vinyl on July 12 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

An evocative snare-drum that sounds like it was coming from a mysterious place, the tender sound of an orchestra joins followed by a familiar and seductive melody played by an oboe. When Tarja‘s distinctive voice resounds through the speakers, her warm timbre fills the room. Her melody is full of emotions and tender, before the song explodes into an epic, heavy chorus: “Hysterical, tragical, Victim of ritual, Cynical, critical, Victim of ritual, She’s a killer, killer, She’s a killer, killer.”

Inspired by the one-movement orchestral piece “Boléro” by Maurice Ravel, the almost-six-minutes-long “Victim Of Ritual” is the first single from Tarja‘s forthcoming album, “Colours In The Dark”.

Both physical releases will surely become rare collector’s items, being made available in strictly limited quantities. The four-song digipak CD-single is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, whereas the two-track sevn-inch vinyl is limited to only 1,500 units worldwide.

“Victim Of Ritual” maxi single track listing:

02. Victim Of Ritual (first demo)
03. I Walk Alone (live from Luna Park)
04. Underneath (live from Luna Park)

“Colours In The Dark” will be released in Europe on August 23 via earMUSIC. The CD wil be made available in North America on August 27 through Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records.

The cover artwork for “Colours In The Dark” was created by Dirk Rudolph and can be seen below. Also available is the artwork that will grace the CD’s “special edition.”

Despite her light and shiny personality, Tarja‘s music has always been dressed “in black” — the color of heavy rock, of mystery and elegance.

With Tarja‘s new album, fans will find out what happens when a splice of color is added to the mix. Or — better said — when the full-color spectrum enters the picture it does not cover the black but makes it shine through with many emotions and landscapes.

Following up on the success of the multi-platinum and gold-awarded previous records “My Winterstorm” (2007) and “What Lies Beneath” (2010), Tarja finally returns with her long-awaited new rock album.

Mixed and mastered by Tim Palmer (PEARL JAM, U2) in Austin, Texas, the songs on “Colours In The Dark” do not shy away from taking a risk and surprising musical turns, introducing new sounds and new musical atmospheres. Still, they maintain a heaviness that will surely bring a big smile to the hardest of rockers. With its grand orchestra and choir arrangements, Tarja‘s next milestone emphasizes once again the impressive vocal range of the Finnish artist and shows her artistic growth. With ten brand new songs and over one hour of music, “Colours In The Dark” is definitely going to be one of the brightest moments for rock in 2013.

In a recent interview with the Music Legends web site, Turunen stated about her upcoming CD: “I have just recently found my style and sound so I would like to establish it with the third studio album. The elements on the album will remain the same as in my previous albums, also the versatile style of songs. I like to keep the big dynamic changes between my songs, so that album songs feel radically different from each other.

“I am not stressed at all this time, even though I am producing the album on my own again. I have been lucky to gather around a group of musicians who are willing to work with me, so everything is going smoothly.”

Tarja and her husband/manager Marcelo Cabuli recently became the parents of their first child.

“Act I” was released in North America on September 4, 2012 in 2-CD, 2-DVD and Blu-ray format via the Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records, in conjunction with earMUSIC.

Tarja‘s sophomore solo album, “What Lies Beneath”, sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 24 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
