Iron Bonehead Productions has set April 21st as the international release date for Skelethal’s “Deathmanicvs Revelation.” The label also issued the following announcement: “Skelethal’s debut MLP, Deathmanicvs Revelation says everything it needs to in its title: absolute DEATH WORSHIP, wielding the metal of death like a scythe, an axe, and blunt hammer simultaneously, all in obeisance to occult forces beyond the mien of man. “At 22 lean, licentious minutes, Deathmanicvs Revelation allows this French duo to gallop forth into – and beyond – the realms of death, utilizing a morbid, miasmic thrust and an execution that sounds utterly possessed. “Despite their young years, Skelethal are well learned in the ancient ways of death metal, and the resultant sound across Deathmanicvs Revelation is not so much ‘old school’ nor ‘retro’ as it is simply respectful of its traditions, adding their own hideous flair to the form.” The track listing is as follows: 1

Seremonia

Seremonia: batty

Invited by Electric Wizard to play Roadburn earlier this year, Finland’s Seremonia have proven to be one of the most individual, and eerie entities to have emerged from the retro/doom cauldron.

Following on from last year’s selt-titled debut, the band, fronted by deapan but bewitching tones of chanteuse Nooma, are about to release the follow-up, Ihminen on Svart Records, and Hammer is proud to host an exclusive preview track, Hallava Hevonen. This is doom through the looking glass, full of crushing riffs, but opening up a landscape where the laws of physics have shifted slightly in a way you can’t quite put your finger on.

Check out the track below, and check out your sense of reality while you’re at it!

It's no secret that Thor is one of the most metal comic book superheroes, given the fact that he wields a very Viking-like hammer called Mjölnir. Well, it turns out that the guy who plays Thor, Chris Hemsworth, is pretty metal himself. Check it out: The dudes over at Esquire recently wrote a feature on Hemsworth, …

Top comedian, 2012 Spirit Of Hammer Golden God winner and general metal-loving legend Bill Bailey was kind enough to let us into his personal studio to have a big ol’ chinwag about his love of heavy music, why metal and punk aren’t as different as people make out and dicking about with Mastodon, all for our massive new issue, out now.

Here’s a preview of what he had to say…

What metal bands are you listening to at the moment?

“I really love the latest Deftones album, I love Opeth and The Mars Volta – where you have longer album tracks and it’s almost a bit proggy. That’s why Mastodon appeal to me, because they have this immense sound and passion, but there’s this intricate musicality to them.”

Mastodon are a good example of a band that seems to get praise from more ‘mainstream’ critics. Does heavy metal really need that kind of approval, though?

“Do you know what? No. I don’t think it does. It would seem like metal’s been assimilated by The Borg. Metal’s never been assimilated, and that’s part of its allure. It’s managed to maintain this sort of ‘otherness’, this distance from mainstream music, and I think that’s a good, healthy thing. It shows that for music to be popular and connect with people, it doesn’t have to be filtered into the mainstream. When I played Sonisphere, there were 50,000 people there to see metal.”

Sonisphere was a bold booking. What do you remember from that day?

“Well, it was very daunting. When I was approached to do it, it was a bit of a challenge, like someone laying down a gauntlet. I had to think about how I was going to approach it, because it was going to be a field, outdoors, in England, and most likely going to rain. People aren’t going to be sitting down, so it’s got to be an intense gig. So, I thought I’d do some metal versions of my own songs. I got together a band very quickly, and we went out and gave it both barrels. I remember looking out and seeing this field of arms! Metalheads, people in Slipknot masks, singing, arms waving! I thought, ‘This is brilliant! It was a life-changing moment and I have no fear of anything now.”

Bill Bailey’s Qualmpeddler tour continues next month. Read more from our interview with Bill in our new issue!

Motorhead

Some distressing news filtering through this morning as Motörhead were forced to cancel shows in Austria and Italy due to Lemmy suffering what has been described as “unspecified hematoma”.

“With great regret we inform you that, after [Motorhead had] canceled a date in Austria yesterday, Motorhead are also forced to cancel the date of June 25 in Milan, for the same reason,” state the Milan promoters, “health problems with Lemmy, caused by a strong hematoma, makes it impossible at present to go on stage.”

Hematoma is a a localised collection of blood outside the blood vessels, usually in the form of a blood clot. With Lemmy having recently been fitted with a defibrillator due to an irregular heart beat, it looks like the rock ‘n’ roll icon is taking a bit of a battering at the moment, so everyone here at Hammer wishes him a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back on his feet ASAP.
