German power metallers GAMMA RAY will release their eleventh studio album, “Empire Of The Undead”, on CD, CD/DVD digipack, LP and digitally via earMusic on March 28.

Two songs from the CD, “Avalon” and “Pale Rider”, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

The “Empire Of The Undead” title track was already been made available on the single/EP “Master Of Confusion”, an appetizer the band released in 2013, just before touring the world with HELLOWEEN.

GAMMA RAY recorded the new album in various sessions in 2013, with Eike Freese at the mixing desk alongside bass player and co-writer Dirk Schlaechter.

It was just after landing in South America that the unbelievable news reached GAMMA RAY mainman Kai Hansen and his bandmates: Hammer Studio, their home, rehearsal place, studio and meeting point for many metal bands in Germany, including their instruments, amps and tapes, had been destroyed by a terrifying fire.

GAMMA RAY will embark on the “Empire Of The Undead” tour in March, with special guests RHAPSODY OF FIRE.

On March 13, Metalholic.com conducted an interview with HELLOWEEN singer Andi Deris. You can now listen to the chat below.

Deris has returned with his first solo album since 1999. Not so much a solo effort in its original sense, but recorded in a band environment to achieve a real band feeling, “Million Dollar Haircuts On Ten Cent Heads” was released on November 22, 2013 via earMUSIC.

Written and composed by Andi Deris himself, “Million Dollar Haircuts On Ten Cent Heads” has a crispy, modern sound to it. The diverse, high-class production is snotty, dirty and brutally honest and is described in a press release as “a healthy mixture of HELLOWEEN‘s recent records combined with ‘Master Of The Rings’ tradition (Andi‘s first HELLOWEEN album).”

Recorded together with his band BAD BANKERS, “Million Dollar Haircuts On Ten Cent Heads” sees Deris criticizing the economic system and its corruption. Although the topic may seem a bit dull, the heavy guitar riffs and Deris‘ recognizable voice clearly make a point: “fuck banks, fuck managers, fuck bankers.” He explains: “Obviously we despise everything around banks, managers and bankers who are clearly responsible for the shit that goes on nowadays (and most certainly in our future), so it felt very good to vocally tell them what we think about them. Sure, therefore it’s highly explicit but hey… who gives a fuck? That’s what they deserve… and it helps the music to really kick some ass.”

“Million Dollar Haircuts On Ten Cent Heads” standard CD track listing:

01. Cock
02. Will We Ever Change

The CD entered the Media Control chart in Germany at position No. 4 — the highest chart position in the band’s history. It also landed at No. 4 in Finland and No. 2 on the international album chart in Japan.

“Straight Out Of Hell” was produced by Charlie Bauerfeind, who also worked on “7 Sinners”, and sees the five musicians maintaining a rawer edge throughout, working quickly in the studio (MiSueno Studio in Tenerife) and delivering 13 brand new compositions that, in the words of founding member, guitarist Michael Weikath, will “kick even the laziest listener’s ass!”

David Garlow of Examiner.com recently conducted an interview with FOZZY singer and WWE wrestling superstar Chris Jericho. You can now listen to the chat below.

In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect, Jericho stated about FOZZY‘s latest album, 2012’s “Sin And Bones”: “We worked really hard on ‘Sin And Bones’. We had a lot of momentum with the ‘Chasing The Grail’ record in 2010, and we wanted to keep it going. It was our debut on Century Media, which is the biggest record company we’ve ever been on, and we knew this was our chance to take things to the next level. We really focused on making ‘Sin And Bones’ our ‘Black Album’ [referring to METALLICA‘s 1991 self-titled LP]. What I mean by that is the Black Album is a very cohesive record from start to finish. It takes you on a journey. All of the songs have a similar vibe, even though they’ve got different styles. We wanted that for ‘Sin And Bones’. We wanted to make a very groove-oriented, dark kind of record you could listen to from the first song to the last and it would take you on a journey. It was meant to be listened to in sequence. Whenever you can do that, it becomes a memorable piece of work. With the reviews we got and the response, it was the highest-charting, biggest-selling, and best-reviewed of our career so far.”

Jericho also spoke about getting a matching HELLOWEEN tattoo with M. Shadows of AVENGED SEVENFOLD.

M. Shadows and I have been friends for a long time,” he said. “That’s why I asked him to help us with [the FOZZY song] ‘Sandpaper’ [off ‘Sin And Bones’]. He did a great job with the arrangement and the vocal parts. One thing that made us even closer kindred spirits is the fact that we both love HELLOWEEN. We were coming to the Roxy [in West Hollywood] to do a show, and he came down. I was like, ‘Dude, we should get a HELLOWEEN tattoo!’ We talked about it for a couple of days before and figured out the pumpkin we wanted to get. He’s got so many tattoos that his pumpkin was like the last little bit of real estate he had on his arm. I don’t have a lot of tattoos, so it was like I had this pumpkin in the middle of my forearm for no apparent reason, so I thought I’d put something around it. I came up with the idea of doing my four favorite bands and putting them all together. It’s METALLICA, HELLOWEEN, IRON MAIDEN, and THE BEATLES. It ended up being pretty cool.”

The CD was recorded in late 2012 at Draudenhaus Studio in Nantes, France and “shows a strong atmospheric touch wrapped around a pounding rhythm, driving guitars, oscillating keyboards with the clear and very powerful voice of Franck Garcia giving the band’s style its typical expression,” according to a press release.

ANDI DERIS & BAD BANKERS, the new project led by HELLOWEEN/ex-PINK CREAM 69 frontman Andi Deris, has completed mixing and mastering its debut album. Andi states: “We are so happy with the result we can’t wait you guys out there finally hear it, too. Great, crispy sound… modern but not tooooo modern… the way it should be, in my humble ears.”

Andi previously stated about the new project: “It’s been years I was looking for a band (all over the planet) that I could actually ask to record an album with me, only to find it on the little island I live on just a few months ago. Even more thrilling is the fact that the guys are between 19 and 22 years old. You won’t believe it when you listen to the songs!

“We all had and have a lot of fun with the image, even more during the photo session.

“Obviously, we despise everything around banks, managers and bankers who are clearly responsible for the shit that goes on nowadays (and most certainly in our future), so it felt very good to vocally tell them what we think about them. Sure, therefore it’s highly explicit, but, who gives a f… that’s what they deserve, and it helps the music to really kick some ass.”

HELLOWEEN‘s new album, “Straight Out Of Hell”, sold around 4,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 97 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD entered the Media Control chart in Germany at position No. 4 — the highest chart position in the band’s history. It also landed at No. 4 in Finland and No. 2 on the international album chart in Japan.

Frontiers Records will release the much-anticipated third album from PLACE VENDOME, “Thunder In The Distance”, on November 1 in Europe and November 5 in North America.

PLACE VENDOME is the melodic rock project featuring UNISONIC and former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske on all lead vocals and production from Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69).

PLACE VENDOME started in 2004 whenKiske, following a self-imposed exile from the rock and metal scene which lasted a few years after his departure from HELLOWEEN and solo career, accepted an offer in 2004 to be part of a melodic rock-oriented concept put together by Frontiers Records president Serafino Perugino.

The resulting PLACE VENDOME debut album brought Kiske back to a more straight-ahead rock sound, still very accessible and melodic and far from the heavy metal stereotypes of blood, violence and hate which Kiske never had anything to do with. He collaborated for the first time with PINK CREAM 69‘s Dennis Ward, Kosta Zafiriou and Uwe Reitenauer with Gunther Werno (VANDEN PLAS) on keyboards. In a quite ironic twist of fate, Michael found himself to work with members of PINK CREAM 69 when that band’s original singer, Andi Deris, took his place in HELLOWEEN after Kiske left.

The very favorable acceptance of the first PLACE VENDOME album planted the seeds for a second recording entitled “Streets Of Fire”, which was produced during 2008. The concept was slightly changed, with some outside writers such as Robert Säll (WORK OF ART), Ronny Milianowicz (SAINT DEAMON) and Torsti Spoof (LEVERAGE) handling the bulk of the songwriting, with Dennis Ward still handling the recording and production sessions.

Following his stint with the band UNISONIC, Kiske decided to go back once again to the PLACE VENDOME concept with more melodic rock-oriented songs which — once again — have been selected by Perugino from outside writers, including Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR), Timo Tolkki (ex-STRATOVARIUS), Alessandro Del Vecchio (HARDLINE), Roberto Tiranti and Andrea Cantarelli (LABYRINTH, A PERFECT DAY), Tommy Denander (RADIOACTIVE), Sören Kronqvist (SUNSTORM, ISSA), and Brett Jones.

“I am having a very open mind in terms of music anyway, and the PLACE VENDOME vibe is a pretty different approach than UNISONIC,” says Kiske. “I like many tracks off the PLACE VENDOME albums, but especially ‘Guardian Angel’, ‘Streets Of Fire’, ‘I Will Be Waiting’, ‘Set Me Free’ from the previous albums or now ‘Maybe Tomorrow’. For me, the vocals are the most important part of a song, of course.”

Ward once again produced and mixed the whole affair with such musicians as Dirk Bruineberg (CONSORTIUM PROJECT), Gunter Werno (VANDEN PLAS) and Uwe Reitenauer (PINK CREAM 69) completing the lineup.

“Thunder In The Distance” track listing:

01. Talk To Me
02. Power Of Music
03. Broken Wings
04. Lost In Paradise
05. It Can’t Rain Forever
06. Fragile Ground
07. Hold Your Love
08. Never Too Late
09. Heaven Lost
10. My Heart Is Dying
11. Breakout
12. Maybe Tomorrow
13. Thunder In The Distance

PLACE VENDOME is:

Michael Kiske – Lead Vocals
Dennis Ward – Bass, Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Dirk Bruineberg – Drums
Gunter Werno – Keyboards
Uwe Reitenauer – Lead Guitar

German power metallers GAMMA RAY have issued the following update:

“After a successful tour across Europe and Asia, it is time now to finish what had been started with ‘Master Of Confusion’ EP beginning of this year: the band will enter their studio tomorrow looking through and carrying together new material for the new album, ‘Empire Of The Undead’, which is supposed to be completed right before the band heads out for the South American leg of the Hellish Rock II tour [with HELLOWEEN in late November].”

GAMMA RAY‘s new EP, “Master Of Confusion”, was released on March 15 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

In addition to the brand new title cut, “Master Of Confusion” features a second new studio track, “Empire Of The Undead”, showing the heavier side of the band, with an explosion of energy and pure GAMMA RAY sound at its best.

The release is not free from tasty rarities: a brand new studio cover versions of British glam rock band SWEET (“Lost Angels” — “the reason I have joined a band many years ago,” stated GAMMA RAY frontman Kai Hansen) and a hidden treasure of NWOBHM (“Death Or Glory” by HOLOCAUST).

“Master Of Confusion” is rounded off with six live versions (“The Spirit”, “Wings Of Destiny”, “Farewell”, “Gamma Ray”, “Time To Break Free” and “Insurrection”, recorded in Bochum) that were already included on the Blu-ray “Skeletons & Majesties Live” but were not featured on the CD release (which included the show recorded in Pratteln).
