On March 14, Project Alpha TV conducted an interview with vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid of Swedish metallers SOILWORK at this year’s Hammerfest, which was held at Hafan y Mor Holiday Park, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire, Wales. You can now watch the chat below.

As previously reported, Dutch singer Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP) joined SOILWORK on stage last night (Friday, March 21) at Circus in Helsinki, Finland. The concert was filmed for SOILWORK‘s first-ever live DVD, to be released later in the year.

The choice of location for the shoot of the first-ever SOILWORK audiovisual live document was an easy one since Helsinki has always been a second home to the band. The venue itself, Circus, was just the right one to offer a full-on SOILWORK show.

The show marked SOILWORK‘s only Scandinavian show of the spring.

The DVD is being produced by Jouni Markkanen and directed by Ville Lipiäinen, who also helmed the most recent NIGHTWISH DVD, “Showtime, Storytime”.

SOILWORK‘s ninth studio and first dual-disc album, “The Living Infinite”, sold around 7,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 60. The effort also landed at No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 2 on the Hard Music chart. “The Living Infinite” entered the iTunes Metal Top Albums chart at No. 1 and was the No. 1 most added album on the CMJ radio chart.

“The Living Infinite” was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) and boasts artwork by MNEMIC‘s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie. The CD features Justin Sullivan — lead singer of the English band NEW MODEL ARMY — as a guest vocalist on the track “The Windswept Mercy” and also marks the recording debut of longtime SOILWORK touring guitarist David Andersson (also of THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA).

Adds Floor: “I have been a fan of [SOILWORK‘s] music for years! They will record a live DVD this special evening; definitely a show you don’t want to miss! The show takes place in Circus in Helsinki, Finland. See you there?!”

Commented NIGHTWISH mastermind and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen: “Our darling flying Dutchwoman, Floor Jansen, has been nothing but incredible during her time in NIGHTWISH on this tour, so this is a perfect opportunity to immortalize the current vibe of the band on film!”

NIGHTWISH‘s setlist for the Wacken Open Air performance was as follows:

01. Dark Chest Of Wonders
02. Wish I Had An Angel
03. She Is My Sin
04. Ghost River
05. Ever Dream
06. Storytime
07. I Want My Tears Back
08. Nemo
09. Last Of The Wilds
10. Bless The Child
11. Romanticide
12. Amaranth
13. Ghost Love Score
14. Song Of Myself
15. Last Ride Of The Day
16. Outro (Imaginaerum)

In a recent interview with Ghost Cult Magazine, Jansen — who has been performing with NIGHTWISH since last October — was asked if she would be willing to front NIGHTWISH permanently if she were asked to fill the slot.

“I’ve been asked to fill in for the current world tour and for a couple of festival dates, but what will happen after that is still unclear,” she replied. “NIGHTWISH will take a break after the current touring cycle and they’ll make a decision next year. Until then, everything is still up in the air.”

She continued: “If they would ask me, I would be very flattered and I would love to do it. It will be a major overhaul in my life and my career as a singer, but then again, we’re not rushing things.

“Both the guys in NIGHTWISH and I have experiences with previous band breakups and all emotions that come with it. It’s almost like dating. Things feel good and it’s going well, but we’re not in a rush to tie the knot, so to speak.”

Regarding how she looks back on her experiences as a stand-in singer for NIGHTWISH so far, Jansen said: “It’s still too early for me to really reflect on the whole NIGHTWISH adventure, because there are still a couple of tour dates pending, including some summer festivals.

“What can I say? It’s an incredible ride and it feels really good. Things went really well from day one. The timing was really awkward, because Annette Olzon just left the band and there wasn’t really time to rehearse with the other NIGHTWISH members. Anxiety levels were running high, because replacing a female singer mid-tour is a hazardous experience, to say the least. They were running the gauntlet to make sure that none of the remaining tour dates had to be canceled. They were scared and so was I.

“Things went surprisingly well.

“It doesn’t matter where you perform, YouTube will be plastered with movies of the gig the next day, so I really gave it my all. Everyone in the band and crew were really supportive and all the positive reactions and the warm acceptance by the NIGHTWISH fanbase was beyond my wildest dreams.

“Some people would rather see someone else fronting the band, but you can’t please everyone.”

Jansen made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1, 2012 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington following the abrupt departure of the band’s lead singer of five years, Anette Olzon.

Holopainen has known Jansen for more than 10 years already, having previously toured with her former band, AFTER FOREVER.

Asked about the reasons for Olzon‘s sudden exit from the group, Tuomas told U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine: “I’m sure it came as a shock to everybody. We came out with a statement [regarding the split], which pretty much says it all. It still is a private matter, and that’s all we wanna say about it, like, ever. It was an amicable divorce, so to say, and made in good spirit, and we are just looking to the future. There really is no reason to go back into all the details and all that. I mean, this is not politics, this is a rock band.”

Regarding whether there is a chance that Floor will become the official new NIGHTWISH lead singer, Tuomas said: “The way that we have decided is that we’re gonna continue with her until the end of the festival season in 2013 — just have fun, just do the shows the best we can. I mean, the atmosphere in the band is so good at the moment, [we want to] just enjoy this what we have right now. They try not to think about NIGHTWISH at all for a few months. Everybody take a little vacation. And we already have the rehearsal place for the next album booked in 2014 — from July to September. So that’s how far we have planned. But when we do the last festival show next August, after that, it’s gonna be total nothing for a few months. So I would say everything is possible, but that’s really not the thing that we want to be thinking about right now, because there’s absolutely no reason to.”

Kaaos TV conducted an interview with vocalist Dave Hunt of Birmingham, England’s ANAAL NATHRAKH before the band’s August 24 show at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland. You can now watch the chat below.

ANAAL NATHRAKH‘s latest album, “Vanitas”, was released on November 6, 2012 via Candlelight Records. Produced by Mick Kenney (BLEEDING THROUGH, INGESTED), the CD carries the band’s signature and regarded union of black metal and grindcore.

ANAAL NATHRAKH‘s seventh album, “Vanitas” “sounds like someone showing you what the end of the world is like via the medium of a thousand hammers soaked in acid,” said Dave Hunt. Digging into the record particulars, he notes, “It’s more articulate and focused than any album before it in way of composition and recording technique. We worked hard and we’re convinced it has paid off.”

Since its inception in 1999, ANAAL NATHRAKH has gained a reputation for embodying the audio essence of pure evil. Various collaborations with the likes of Sethlans Teitan (WATAIN), Shane Embury and Danny Herrera (NAPALM DEATH), and others, have placed the band high on media as well metal fans “must-seek-out” list. This alongside countless placements in “Best Album Of The Month/Year” awards, ANAAL NATHRAKH‘s status as one of the leading lights in extreme metal is undeniable.

SOUNDGARDEN plans to take a break from touring after the band completes its current European trek, which began September 4 in Helsinki, Finland and ends on September 19 in London. But frontman Chris Cornell tells Gray Graff of GMI Rock that he’s confident we haven’t heard the last from SOUNDGARDEN.

“You know, I think that the overall attitude about keeping it going and treating it, in a sense, the way that we wanna treat it to keep it going, that attitude seems to be really good,” Cornell said (hear audio below). “I mean, there’s nothing stopping us from continuing to make records, that’s for sure, and continuing to play shows. We had a great experience doing [last year’s ‘King Animal’] album, and since we’ve come back together, everything has been kind of that way. There hasn’t really been any of the kind of tension, specifically surrounding peripheral stuff, and I think it was a simple as us making the conscious decision to not be influenced by anything other than us four wanting to do it and not putting a business version of a timeline on it.”

SOUNDGARDEN has issued a new music video for “Halfway There”, a song taken from “King Animal”. “Halfway There” is the third single and video released from the disc, following “Been Away Too Long” and “By Crooked Steps”. The video for the latter track was directed by FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Cornell will launch a solo acoustic tour of North America on October 15 in San Diego, wrapping up six weeks later on November 30 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The shows will draw on material from all stages of Cornell‘s career — including the first-ever acoustic performances of tracks from “King Animal”.

Meanwhile, SOUNDGARDEN drummer Matt Cameron, who also plays drums for PEARL JAM, will hit the road with the latter group beginning on October 11 in Pittsburgh. The new PEARL JAM album, “Lightning Bolt”, arrives on October 15.

Shepherd issued his debut solo album, “In Deep Owl”, on August 27.

Guitarist Kim Thayil recently said he’ll spend the band’s downtime working on compiling the SOUNDGARDEN B-sides box set, which will collect songs from European and Australian singles, movie soundtracks and other sources.
