On March 14, Project Alpha TV conducted an interview with vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid of Swedish metallers SOILWORK at this year’s Hammerfest, which was held at Hafan y Mor Holiday Park, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire, Wales. You can now watch the chat below.

As previously reported, Dutch singer Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP) joined SOILWORK on stage last night (Friday, March 21) at Circus in Helsinki, Finland. The concert was filmed for SOILWORK‘s first-ever live DVD, to be released later in the year.

The choice of location for the shoot of the first-ever SOILWORK audiovisual live document was an easy one since Helsinki has always been a second home to the band. The venue itself, Circus, was just the right one to offer a full-on SOILWORK show.

The show marked SOILWORK‘s only Scandinavian show of the spring.

The DVD is being produced by Jouni Markkanen and directed by Ville Lipiäinen, who also helmed the most recent NIGHTWISH DVD, “Showtime, Storytime”.

SOILWORK‘s ninth studio and first dual-disc album, “The Living Infinite”, sold around 7,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 60. The effort also landed at No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 2 on the Hard Music chart. “The Living Infinite” entered the iTunes Metal Top Albums chart at No. 1 and was the No. 1 most added album on the CMJ radio chart.

“The Living Infinite” was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) and boasts artwork by MNEMIC‘s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie. The CD features Justin Sullivan — lead singer of the English band NEW MODEL ARMY — as a guest vocalist on the track “The Windswept Mercy” and also marks the recording debut of longtime SOILWORK touring guitarist David Andersson (also of THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA).

SOILWORK says: “The song that Floor will lend her beautiful and powerful voice to will remain a secret for now, as I’m sure you understand… Just make sure you don’t miss out on this!!!”

Adds Floor: “I have been a fan of [SOILWORK‘s] music for years! They will record a live DVD this special evening; definitely a show you don’t want to miss! The show takes place in Circus in Helsinki, Finland. See you there?!”

Sweden’s Soilwork unveiled the album artwork for the band’s upcoming new double length album release “The Living Infinite” (shown below). The album is set for release on February 27, 2013 in Asia (via license to Marquee Records), in Europe on March 1, 2013 and in North America on March 5, 2013 through Nuclear Blast Records. “The Living Infinite” was produced by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath), the CD features artwork by Mnemic’s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie.

The band commented on the artwork: “After commissioning some pretty elaborate covers for the last couple of records, we decided to try something more sober and design-oriented fo r The Living Infinite . Who better to call than the man who created the iconic Stabbing The Drama cover? Mircea Gabriel Eftemie is not only a close friend but also an incredible graphic designer. We’re all stoked about his work which is different from anything SOILWORK has ever done and perfectly suits the elegant oceanic concept of The Living Infinite. Enjoy, folks!”

Artist Eftemie added: “Seven years ago, I created the artwork for the Stabbing The Drama album and I can’t believe how time flies! Here we are, with sexy gray hairs, working with my friends in SOILWORK again. This time, we built the cover around a maritime concept, aiming for something direct and symbolic. I believe we achieved that quite well. From my creative deck, I salute you and say: ‘Long Live The Living Infinite.’”

Justin Sullivan, lead singer of the English band New Model Army, will be a guest vocalist on the track “The Windswept Mercy,” which will appear on the new Soilwork double album, “The Living Infinite.”

Formed in 1980 in Bradford, England, New Model Army still has a very loyal following and Soilwork front man Björn “Speed” Strid counts himself among it. Sullivan shares the serendipitous back-story on how he met up with Sweden’s melodic metal maestros Soilwork:

“Some years ago, I met Björn somewhere in the deserts of the southwestern U.S. I expect we both had good reasons for being there – though things like reason get swallowed up in the strangeness of deserts. Anyway, I’m sure we were talking about deserts and the idea of desert music as Europeans always have an unending fascination with these wondrous alien places. ‘Would you sing on a Soilwork record?’ he asked. ‘Yes, of course’ I replied, and so, many years later, I suddenly get an e-mail from Soilwork in a studio in Stockholm at exactly the same moment NMA were in a studio in London. And by a miracle of technology was able to do a quick vocal on this great and strangely beautiful song. Perhaps you beat me to the desert music thing after all, Bjorn. Love the track. All The Best.”

Soilwork’s Björn “Speed” Strid adds: “It’s a true honor to have one of my absolute favorite lyricists and singers, Justin Sullivan from New Model Army, contributing with guest vocals for our new album. I have been a long-time fan and I recall growing up in the small Swedish city of Landskrona, where so many people listened to the first wave of death metal AND New Model Army, including myself. I met Justin at a NMA show in Phoenix, Arizona three years ago and we talked quite a bit. He listened very patiently to my story. He also ran out to his tour bus to get his new solo album and gave it to me. I will never forget that. The man is a true legend, a gentleman, and he has a very unique presence in his voice, on stage and in his lyrics. The fact that he wanted to lend his amazing voice to ‘The Windswept Mercy’ brought me to tears. He will forever be my hero!”

Soilwork continues work in the studio with producer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath) recording “The Living Infinite.” The 2013 release will be a double album and will mark the recording debut of long-time touring guitarist David Andersson.
