MÖTLEY CRÜE held a press conference on January 28 at Hotel Roosevelt in Los Angeles where they announced that the band will launch its “Final Tour” later this year, with the group planning to play 72 shows in North America in 2014 and more overseas in 2015. Making it official, the four members of the band had their lawyer draw up a formal “cessation of touring” agreement that goes into effect at the end of 2015 and prohibits the members of the group from going on the road again under the MÖTLEY CRÜE banner.
No mention was made of whether the CRÜE will record a new album to go along with the tour, although the group hinted at the possibility.
During an appearance on the March 3 edition of Eddie Trunk‘s show “Trunk Nation” on SiriusXM‘s Hair Nation, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars revealed: “I just wrote a new song with Nikki [Sixx, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist], and we’re gonna be finishing it up, like, within the next couple of months. There’ll be a new single [released in time for the upcoming tour].”
Sixx in January said that that it’s unlikely that the band will release another full-length album of new material and will instead make select tracks available via special projects in order to maximize their impact.
“My take on it right now and the way that things work is very much reverted back to the ’60s where people buy singles,” Mars told Trunk. “I don’t want an album full of fillers. And that’s why I said I would release [a solo] EP or singles.”
Sixx told the Rapid City, South Dakota radio station 95.1 KSKY: “We have music written, [but] it’s not put together yet.” He added: “It’s hard, to be honest with you, to spend six [or] nine months to write eleven songs — all those lyrics… everything… the vocals, the guitars, the bass, the sonics, the mixing, the mastering, the artwork… You put it out and nothing [happens], because now people cherry-pick songs. So we go, ‘Why don’t we write songs and find vehicles to get one, two or four songs to ten million people rather than eleven songs to a hundred thousand people. That’s how we’re thinking. I don’t know if it’s right or wrong, but that’s how we’re thinking.”
MÖTLEY CRÜE in 2012 released a brand new song called “Sex” to coincide with the launch of the band’s North American co-headlining tour with KISS.
Written when the group was together during their residency in Las Vegas in February 2012, “Sex” was the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of “Saints Of Los Angeles”. The song was recorded at MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee‘s studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California.

Director Drew Stone and executive producer Jonathan Anastas announce the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund production of their Michael Alago biopic.
The film will tell a uniquely American story of Alago‘s journey from humble roots in Brooklyn into the netherworld of downtown New York’s music and arts scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
Alago rose from running THE DEAD BOYS fan club to live booker at the legendary Ritz nightclub and then onto a storied A&R career at Elektra Records, Geffen Records and Palm Pictures, where he signed and executive produced acts as diverse as METALLICA, WHITE ZOMBIE, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, PIL, CYNDI LAUPER and NINA SIMONE.
The story covers the crazy glory days of the music business as well as how Michael survived the late ’90s industry downturn and re-invented himself successfully as a visual artist, poet and published photographer.
Viewers will also journey through the nightclubs, underground haunts and uptown parties of a long-changed New York art scene in its creative and decadent heyday.
Stone‘s film will also tackle how Alago succeeded professionally as a gay man in a metal music subculture known for its perceived homophobia and how sobriety re-focused Michael‘s creative vision and drove his successful re-invention as an artist himself.
Said Stone: “Michael‘s inspiring and cautionary tale features many of the elements that I love as a filmmaker. It’s got gritty old New York, an alternative lifestyle and a hard rock soundtrack. He’s a well-loved figure who has a unique and incredible life story that I’m really looking forward to committing to film.”
Added Anastas: “I first met Michael in the 1980s when my band showcased for Elektra Records. He reappeared in my life 20 years later. I realized that Michael‘s story — about a time when self-invention, a life of burning the candle at both ends and an authentic passion defined the creative community in New York, their successes and their tragedies — is an important one that needed to be told.”
Incentives for supporters of the film via the Kickstarter campaign include copies of the movie as well as an incredible collection of special ephemera and fine art associated with Alago‘s broad creative career including signed copies of his collectable books, special editions of prints from Rough Gods” and “Beautiful Imperfections” as well as items related to the artists Michael worked with over the years.
The trailer and Kickstarter campaign can be viewed here.

Rocker Eddie Van Halen and his wife, Janie Liszewski, were interviewed by ScreenSlam as they arrived for Esquire‘s 80th anniversary and Esquire Network launch celebration on September 17 at Highline Stages in New York. Check out the footage below.
VAN HALEN backed out of 31 North American dates last year, citing exhaustion, and then Eddie Van Halen was sidelined for four-to-six months after undergoing surgery for the inflammatory intestinal affliction diverticulitis.
VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth gave an interview earlier in the year to Rolling Stone in which he expressed his desire to work on fresh material with Eddie Van Halen and tour outside the U.S., saying, “We have an audience and we have a potential future in many, many places . . . I don’t know where the VAN HALEN future lies aside from the States.”

Southern German gothic metallers CREMATORY have inked a deal with Steamhammer/SPV. The band’s new album, “Antiserum”, will be released on February 25, 2014 (one day earlier internationally).
“We’re really looking forward to our collaboration with Steamhammer/SPV, a globally renowned label and expert partner in what we’re planning for the future,” says CREMATORY drummer Markus Jüllich.
“Our fans can look forward to ‘Antiserum’, on which we have gone one step further than we did on our comeback album, ‘Revolution’, in terms of our electronic influences. In collaboration with Elmar Schmidt of Hamburg EBM act CENTHRON, we have come up with a haunting mix of metal riffs and EBM keyboards. That’s why I’d refer to ‘Antiserum’‘s musical direction as ‘EBM metal.’”
The first single from “Antiserum”, a song called “Shadowmaker”, will be released on November 22. Jüllich says: “Even before the whole record was finalized, we knew that ‘Shadowmaker’ had absolute hit potential. You’d be hard put to announce our new album better than with this song.”
On the day of the single launch, a special box set featuring CREMATORY‘s first ten studio albums in a cardboard sleeve will be made available. It is described in a press release as “an absolute must-have for all fans and collectors.”
Says Steamhammer A&R manager Olly Hahn: “I am delighted that CREMATORY have opted for SPV. They’re one of the leading bands in the gothic metal genre, and their latest album, ‘Antiserum’, impresses with its homogeneity and hit potential!”

“Dreamscape”, the new Tage Rönnqvist-directed video from Finnish melodic death metallers MYGRAIN, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s fourth album, “Planetary Breathing”, which will be released on September 27 via Spinefarm Records. The CD was recorded during August and September 2012 at Sound Supreme studio with Janne Saksa, who previously worked with the band on their first two albums. The mixing and mastering was again handled by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH, NIGHTINGALE) at Unisound studios in Örebro, Sweden.
Commented MYGRAIN: “The debut album, ‘Orbit Dance’, was released in 2006. The second album, ‘Signs Of Existence’, came out two years later and the third one, ‘MyGrain’, in 2011. The last-mentioned felt like a launch to something new and it was like a new beginning for the band.
“‘Planetary Breathing’ can be characterized through familiar MYGRAIN elements: the catchy choruses, melodies and keyboard lines are still there, whereas the winding and striking guitar riffs being a solid base of the MYGRAIN sound.
“We are so excited of the result we achieved with this album! Together with Janne and Dan, we managed to capture the most rich and balanced MYGRAIN sound so far.”
“Planetary Breathing” track listing:
02. Waking Up The Damned
04. Black Light Supernova
06. Rats in The Cradle
07. The Ghost in Me
08. Mechanimal Instinct
09. The Final Skyline
10. Planetary Breathing
MYGRAIN‘s third, self-titled album entered the official chart in the group’s home country at position No. 23.
The band’s second CD, “Signs of Existence”, landed at No. 32.
