Southern Lord has confirmed that the second full-length from Salt Lake City-based duo Eagle Twin, “The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale,” will be released via deluxe digipak and digital download in North America on August 28th, 2012, with a 2xLP version to follow several weeks later. The following press release was issued about the album:

“The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale, picks up right where the Eagle Twin’s acclaimed 2009-released debut LP The Unkindness of Crows left off. In this installment the crows documented in the first album have battled the sun and were burned back down to earth as black snakes, the concept of the album continuing mainly on the snake and its various mythic and symbolic incarnations. Ultimately the great ancestral snake is transformed from its lowly beginnings back into a bird soaring upon the thermals. As with The Unkindness of Crows, guitarist Gentry Densley (ex-Iceburn) drummer Tyler Smith (ex-Form of Rocket) recorded The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale with Randall Dunn at London Bridge Studio, the finished product bellowing with over fifty minutes of the band’s most mammoth material to date.”

View the cover art for the album, along with live footage of the band performing “Snake Hymn,” below. The track listing is:

1. Ballad of Job Cain Part I
2. Ballad of Job Cain Part II
3. Lorca (Adan)
4. Snake Hymn
5. HornSnakeHorns
6. It Came to Pass the Snakes Became Mighty Antlers
7. Epilogue, Crow’s Theology

Salt Lake City based stoner/doom rockers Eagle Twin has completed work on the band’s sophomore effort, which will be entitled “The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale.” The album was once again recorded with Randall Dunn at London Bridge Studio. The album will see the light of day this year, however no release date has yet been set.

The story of the release continues the from the 2009 debut LP “The Unkindness of Crows,” as “the crows documented in the first album have battled the sun and were burned back down to earth as black snakes” and the concept of the new release “continues mainly on the snake and its various mythic and symbolic incarnations. Ultimately the great ancestral snake is transformed from its lowly beginnings back into a bird soaring upon the thermals.”
