“The Killer Angels”, the full-length debut from CIVIL WAR — the new Swedish metal band featuring former SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar) alongside singer Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION’S SHARE) and bassist Stefan “Pizza” Eriksson (VOLTURYON) — was certified gold in Sweden by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 20,000 copies.

(Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry [IFPI] in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last 11 years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.)

“The Killer Angels” was distributed in Sweden via the June 2013 issue of Sweden Rock Magazine and each copy of the magazine containing the CD was counted towards the certification; the album was also sold separately.

The members of CIVIL WAR were presented with their gold plaques before headlining the Metal War festival in Budapest, Hungary last weekend.

Commented the band: “Selling 20,000-plus in our home country is something none of us could ever imagine when getting into the sessions leading up to the album. Even though we felt we made a solid record, getting these numbers was still something we couldn’t predict upon our wildest imagination.”

“We at Despotz are incredibly proud to have reached gold status in Sweden with the band CIVIL WAR,” added Despotz Records founder, Ömer Akay. “The band has received great international support from their fans, and it shows with growing sales and upcoming tours as a result. This is just the beginning of a brilliant career. We will rule the universe.”

“The Killer Angels” track listing:

01. King Of The Sun
02. First To Fight
03. Saint Patrick’s Day
04. Rome Is Falling
05. Sons Of Avalon
06. I Will Rule The Universe
07. Lucifer’s Court
08. Brother Judas
09. My Own Worst Enemy
10. Gettysburg
11. March Across The Belts (bonus track)

CIVIL WAR‘s debut EP was released on November 13, 2012 via Despotz Records.

Borrowing its name from the novel by Michael Shaara about the Battle of Gettysburg, “The Killer Angels” was recorded by Jonas Kjellgren at Studio Myhrer (which is actually the bed and living room of keyboard player Daniel Myhr), Black Lounge Studio and Peter Tägtgren‘s The Abyss in Pärlby, Sweden. Artwork comes courtesy of Polish artist Lukasz Jaszak.

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH played a brand new song called “Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel” during their August 9 appearance at this year’s edition of the Getaway Rock festival in Gävle, Sweden. You can now watch fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.

“Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel”, which was previously described by BEHEMOTH frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski as “killer” and “a monster,” will be included on the band’s tenth full-length album, “The Satanist”, due in early 2014 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Metal Blade in North America. The CD was recorded at Hertz studio in Bialystok, Poland with the help of the Wieslawscy brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). Other songtitles set to appear on the effort include “Messe Noir” (French for “The Black Mass”) and “Ora Pro Nobis, Lucifer” (Latin for “Pray For Us, Lucifer”).

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH‘s new songs as “very atmospheric” and “very emotional.” “Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE,” he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn’t expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH‘s past efforts. “Take SLAYER, for example,” Darski said. “Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH.”

According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album is coming from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. “When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that it’s coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It’s 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I’m writing nowadays. I’m way more radical than I used to be.”

Rob and the boys

Rob Zombie releases new, brilliantly titled album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor via Ume on April 22, and the album’s first single Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Super Town (just rolls off the tongue, eh?) is now online.

Stream Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Super Town here

“It seems to happen every couple of years or every 10 years or every five years or whatever, you have a moment when it all comes together,” our Rob tells the Toledo Free Press. “Not that the other records are bad, but not every record can be like the most inspired event in your life. But for some reason, this one feels like it is. The songwriting, the sound of it, the vibe, the production — it’s special.”

“It’s stylistically sort of a little bit of everything,” he adds. “Fans of my really old stuff will love it because there’s a certain aspect of it that’s very reminiscent of that. But it also is very looking to the future. It’s hard to describe music to somebody if they haven’t heard it, but I feel like it’s the best of all of the things I’ve done. I’ve finally found a perfect match between the old stuff I did and the new stuff. That’s the way it sounds to me anyway.”

Our prediction: gory.
