The Age Of Metal conducted an interview with guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari of Finnish epic metallers WINTERSUN on August 29 in Phoenix, Arizona. You can now watch the chat below.

After several sold-out shows last year on their inaugural North American co-headlining tour with ELUVEITIE, WINTERSUN has returned to North American shores once again for a headlining tour this August/September. Joining them are Italian symphonic death metal champions FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, melodic tech-death kings ARSIS and up-and-comers STARKILL.

Prior to embarking on the current trek, WINTERSUN said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to return to North America for a full-scale headliner tour in August and September! It will be our first longer own headlining tour ever and this time, without any setlist length limitations, we’ll be able to offer the North American crowds a special show — representing both the ‘Wintersun’ and ‘Time I’ albums. There might also be some surprises in the setlist as well… We are really looking forward to sharing the live magic with YOU, all the fans out there!”

WINTERSUN‘s “Time I” was nominated in the “Metal Album Of The Year” category at this year’s Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy equivalent), which was held on March 1 at Barona Areena in Espoo, Finland.

“Time I” sold nearly 4,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States to land at position No. 109 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Serpent Noir has checked in with the following announcement about working on an upcoming new album: “We are soon to begin working on our most magical and esoteric album to date. For that purpose our dear fraters Thomas Karlsson (a well-known occult author of important works such as ‘Qabalah, Qliphoth and Goetic Magic’) and Tommie Eriksson (the leader of the mighty horde Saturnalia Temple) will contribute to this work. “Thomas will write most of the album’s lyrics while Tommie will lend us his magnificent voice

Supremely talented magicians Dan Sperry and Andrew Basso stopped by the Metal Hammer office last week to plug their upcoming UK dates with magic supergroup, The Illusionists!

Hi, Dan!

Hi, Andrew!

Naturally, we thought we’d take them down the pub and make them show us some tricks. First up, we watched Dan pull some string from his eye. It was gross. And fucking awesome:

We asked Andrew what he had to say to that, so he did this with a coin:

OOOOOOOOOOOH! AAAAHHH!

Finally, we saw some curious barmaids peering out at us through the window, so after about three hours of convincing, we got one for them to let Andrew work his magic on her. Not like that, you sick freaks:

Pretty cool, right? We were impressed, so we went to check out the kind of stuff that they do on stage. Basically, it’s fucking amazing:

If you want to see The Illusionists blow your mind, you can catch them at the following venues this Autumn:

Fri September 27th 2013 – Opera House, Blackpool
Sat September 28th 2013 – Festival Theatre, Edinburgh

DRINK FOR ME, DONINGTON!

Iron Maiden’s Trooper Beer was officially launched last night at a special event at Robinsons Brewery in Cheshire, with esteemed brewing trade representatives from around the globe in attendance.

Taken from www.ironmaiden.com

Check out some pics from the event over on the official Iron Maiden website, and stay glued to http://www.ironmaidenbeer.com/ for more updates on when and where you can expect to lay your grubby mitts on a pint or two of the stuff.

Over a quarter of a million pints have been pre-sold in the UK so far, with over 100 countries set to stock the ale.

“I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer,” says Bruce Dickinson, who took a hands (and, we suspect, taste)-on approach to the creation of the drink. “I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavour and texture that is Trooper. I love it.”

After 120 nights of iron will and ardent magic, the fifth full-length album of Watain is now complete,” comment the band in a statement. “With broken bones and burning hearts we have ploughed our way through deepest winter into a new wilderness, to which we will open the gates at summers end. THE WILD HUNT will be released on August 19th in Europe and August 20th in USA. Beware the rising star of dawn…”

DRINK FOR ME, DONINGTON!

According to a report by The Sun, Iron Maiden’s recently announced Trooper Beer is breaking all records for its brewers, Robinsons, with staff having to work six-day weeks to meet demands.

“We haven’t spent a single penny on advertising,” says Robinsons’ David Bremner. “This is history in the making for brewing.”

I love it.”

For more info, head to ironmaidenbeer.com (warning: may make you thirsty). As for all you fellow beer aficionados out there, we can confirm that when it comes to the taste of Trooper Ale, “malt flavours and citric notes from a unique blend of Bobec, Goldings and Cascade hops dominate this deep golden ale with a subtle hint of lemon.” Which we definitely totally understand and didn’t at all copy from the press release.
