Relapse Records has announced the signing of New York City avant-garde, technical death metal quartet PYRRHON (pronounced “peer-on”). The band’s sophomore album, “The Mother Of Virtues’, will be released in early 2014.

Formed in 2008, PYRRHON released one EP (“Fever Kingdoms”, 2010) and one LP (“An Excellent Servant But a Terrible Master”, 2011) via The Path Less Traveled Records and Selfmadegod Records, respectively.

A nightmarish blend of clanging death metal with surreal psychedelic elements, jazz rhythms, and delirious storytelling, “The Mother Of Virtues” was tracked and mixed by Ryan Jones (TODAY IS THE DAY, MUTILATION RITES, WETNURSE) at Saint Vitus Bar and The Sound City in Brooklyn in May and June 2013. The record was then mastered by Colin Marston (KRALLICE, GORGUTS) at The Thousand Caves Studios in Brooklyn in August 2013.

Vocalist Doug Moore commented on the signing: “When I was 15, I bought a copy of Relapse‘s ‘Contaminated 5.0’ sampler CD. Through it, I encountered SUFFOCATION, NEUROSIS, PIG DESTROYER, HUMAN REMAINS, and countless other great bands for the first time.

“We are thrilled and honored to work with a label whose output has done so much to drive metal forward, and which has meant so much to all four of us over the years.”

PYRRHON quickly became known for its mind-bending live show, playing with such notable acts as MISERY INDEX, HATE ETERNAL, ORIGIN, TOMBS, LITURGY, CANNABIS CORPSE, BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS and INTER ARMA.

NY based progressive metal band Vaura has completed work on new album “The Missing.” Profound Lore Records comments: “Following last year’s ‘Selenelion’ release (Weird Records), Vaura (comprised of vocalist/guitarist Josh Strawn from Religious To Damn, guitarist Kevin Hufnagel from Gorguts and Dysrhythmia, bassist Toby Driver of Kayo Dot and Maudlin Of The Well, and drummer Charlie Schmid) take their unique style of combining progressive metal and classic ‘80s goth/darkwave into more defined and dense territory with ‘The Missing.’ “With a sound and aesthetic influenced by the darker and more brooding moments of the aforementioned styles when they came to fruition in the ‘80s, Vaura also incorporate sounds also reminiscing the likes of post punk, early ‘90s indie rock, and shoegaze respectively along with some intricate moments found on ‘The Missing’ that even hark back to the heyday of classic-era Queensryche and ‘Grace Under Pressure’ era Rush. “As the next proper step succeeding ‘Selenelion,’ with ‘The Missing’ (captured at The Thousand Caves by Colin Marston) VAURA solidify and define their sound even more by becoming one of the more distinct and creative bands from the NY area.” To officially be released October 29th, the track listing for “The Missing” is as follows: 1.

Invisible Oranges has presented the premiere of a new Behold The Arctopus track titled “Horrorsentience.” Give the song a listen at this location. “Horrorsentience” is the almost (but not quite) title track off Behold The Arctopus’ second full-length, “Horrorscension,” set for an October 23rd release on Black Market Activities.

“Horrorscension” marks the debut of new Behold The Arctopus drummer Weasel Walter, a multi-instrumentalist known for his work under the name The Flying Luttenbachers and his widespread collaborations across the free jazz, noise, and metal genres. Walter joins founding members Colin Marston (12-string Warr guitar) and Mike Lerner (guitar). Marston is also a member of Krallice, Gorguts, and Dysrhythmia, as well as a recording engineer whose recent credits include Kayo Dot, Jarboe, and Altar of Plagues.

“Horrorscension” was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Marston at his The Thousand Caves studio in Queens, NY. The cover art is by longtime collaborator Terry Grow. Pre-orders are now available right here.

New Jersey’s atypical progressive experimanglers A Fucking Elephant – who have been assaulting basements and forcing acoustic trauma since 2007 — will barricade themselves in the studio with engineer Colin Marston (Krallice, Dysrhythmia, Behold… The Arctopus) this weekend to lay down two new tracks. The material being recorded is for a 7” the duo – drummer Greg Meisenberg and guitarist Matt Keys — will be releasing in January, in conjunction with a stateside tour to support it.

The newly-confirmed 7” will be A Fucking Elephant’s first new material since the split full-length with cohorts El Drugstore, which dropped in early 2011 via Nefarious Industries, a label created by members of both bands and other local allies. The new 7” will also be released through the label, and will be joined by other new titles in the coming months.

More info on the studio session and upcoming live actions will be released in the weeks ahead. In the meantime get nuts with live footage of one of the new songs to be recorded for the 7”, bearing the polished title “I’m Addicted To Drugs And Sex And I Want You To Choke Me,” in the player below.
