The fifth installment in Relapse’s exhaustive reissue campaign of DEATH‘s immensely influential catalog is “Leprosy”, the band’s titanic second album. Originally released in 1988 the pioneering LP built upon the thrash sounds of METALLICA and SLAYER but added a previously unheard level of raw extremity. These songs are the roots of an entire genre: death metal. While this was only the second record DEATH released, it immediately cemented them as heavy metal icons.

The “Leprosy” reissue will be made available on April 25 in Benelux, Germany, Finland; April 29 in North America and April 28 in the the rest of the world. The entire album, as well as the bonus material, has been painstakingly remastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, NILE) and will be reissued in the following format:

* 2xCD/Limited Edition
* 3xCD/LP/Picture Disc LP/Limited Edition
* 2xLP Box set/Digtal

The Deluxe 2xCD contains 50 minutes of previously unheard and unreleased “Leprosy” demos and rehearsal material housed in an embossed o-card package with a 24-page booklet featuring unseen pictures of the band as well as brand new liner notes from Ian Christe (SiriusXM) and Jeremy Wagner (BROKEN HOPE). The LP features the remastered core album on wax together with a download card for all of the music included on the 2xCD.

A remastered version of the death metal classic “Pull The Plug” can be heard below.

In addition to the 2xCD reissue, a super limited 3xCD version will be available exclusively from www.relapse.com featuring everything included on 2xCD version plus an exclusive third CD featuring over 40 minutes of unreleased live material, housed in a deluxe embossed eight-panel digipak with a 24-page booklet, limited and numbered to 2000 copies.

RockNLive.org recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA and current HELLYEAH drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. You can now watch the chat below.

HELLYEAH‘s fourth studio album, “Blood For Blood”, will be released on June 10 via Eleven Seven Music. The CD was helmed by producer Kevin Churko at his The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada. Churko is the Canadian musician, sound engineer, songwriter and record producer who has previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and IN THIS MOMENT, among other acts.

Prior to the recording of the new album, HELLYEAH parted ways with guitarist Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE) and bassist Bob “Zilla” Kakaha (DAMAGEPLAN). A replacement bassist in the shape of Kyle Sanders (former member of BLOODSIMPLE and the brother of MASTODON‘s Troy Sanders) has been secured.

Still in the lineup are original drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, guitarist Tom Maxwell and singer Chad Gray.

Speaking to RockNLive.org about Sanders‘ addition to HELLYEAH, Vinnie Paul said: “After we realized we were gonna have to part ways with Bob and Greg, we wanted to make sure that we brought somebody in that was a ‘bro,’ somebody that we felt comfortable with. We didn’t wanna go through an audition process and bring a whole bunch of different people in that we had no idea, anything about their character or dynamic or what they were all about. And Kyle had toured with HELLYEAH many times with his band BLOODSIMPLE, who we were all fans of. As a matter of fact, BLOODSIMPLE was on Chad‘s label when he had a label. And he was the first guy that came to our mind. And the first phone call we gave to him, we barely mentioned it and he said, ‘I’m the guy. I wanna do it. I wanna do it.’ And that’s all we needed to hear; that was perfect. So he’s gonna be a perfect addition to the band. We shot the videos together and we hung out, and he’s really into it. So it worked out perfect for us. And to complement Tom on guitar, these songs for this record really have a lot of duelling guitars and a lot of parts, we’re gonna add a touring guitarist. We haven’t announced who that is yet, but I can tell you he’s a hell of a guitar player. So we’ll do that soon. And the band’s gonna be stronger than ever. There’s nothing like having some fresh blood out on the road with you. And these guys are gonna kill, we’re gonna kill, and we’ve got a great new record to tour with.”

A press release describes “Blood For Blood” as a “welcome return to form” for the band, adding that it “sounds like a recharged HELLYEAH, taken up many notches.”

HELLYEAH will hit the road this spring, starting with several festival slots in April and May.

HELLYEAH was formed in 2006 by NOTHINGFACE guitarist Tom Maxwell and bassist Jerry Montano, MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, and former PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.

Montano left a week after the release of the band’s self-titled debut album in 2007 and was replaced by Bob “Zilla” Kakaha, who had played with Abbott in DAMAGEPLAN.

HELLYEAH‘s other albums include 2009’s “Stampede” and 2011’s “Band Of Brothers”.

MUDVAYNE has not released an album since 2009 while Gray and Tribbett have been working with HELLYEAH.

Mastodon

Mastodon have issued an update on their new album!

“Mastodon has been busy jamming everyday writing and arranging the next studio album,” say the Georgian riff machine. “We have quite a few songs and ideas that are taking some time to nail down what we think will make it to the next full length. there will be no more touring this year, we will hit the studio in November to hopefully finish by the end of year.”

Mastodon commented earlier this year that “25 to 30″ new songs had been written for the album, so we reckon there’s a lot more whittling down to be done yet. Our prediction: riffs. And epic facial hair.

Mastodon has checked in with the following announcement about gearing up to record a new full-length album: “Mastodon has been busy jamming everyday writing and arranging the next studio album. Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON have issued the following update:

MASTODON has been busy jamming every day writing and arranging the next studio album. We have quite a few songs and ideas that are taking some time to nail down what we think will make it to the next full-length.

“There will be no more touring this year. We will hit the studio in November to hopefully finish by the end of year.”

Asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for MASTODON‘s follow-up to 2011’s “The Hunter”, guitarist Bill Kelliher told Artisan News: “We haven’t really come to the lyrical concepts yet. That’s usually the last thing that comes. We’re usually focused on the music and getting all the parts and everything sounding ‘balls to the wall,’ you know what I mean?! That’s the most important thing. And then once we’ve got all that settled and recorded, we’re always scrambling for lyrics and ideas and stuff. We’re getting a little bit better at it, and I think Brann‘s [Dailor, drums] got a lot of ideas for vocal melodies and stuff like that. I’ll play the riff and he’ll kind of sing along, and I’m, like, ‘OK, that sounds really proggy, but really awesome.’ I’m really, really excited about it. But as far as what it’s gonna be dealing with, it’s a little too early to tell; it’s pretty fresh stuff right now. I mean, we’ve got some demos, but they’re really, really rough.”

Kelliher also spoke about possible lyrical themes that might be covered on MASTODON‘s next album. He said: “Death always makes for really good story telling. It’s kind of the theme that we have a lot in our music. We’ve had a lot of friends pass away since the last record. I’m not really sure yet. I think we’re kind of focusing more about living on this earth and what would happen if this was your last year to live. I think that’s sort of maybe a little bit of what we might be kind of touching on.”

He added: “Art reflects life — how you’re feeling and your mood. I played a riff for Brann and he was, like, ‘That sounds kind of happy. Are we happy now?’ I don’t know… I am; I’m a pretty happy guy. So that’s kind of how we work; it’s pretty simple. But we’ll have to see. I really like the way ‘The Hunter’ went; that was not a total change in direction, but we just kind of proved to ourselves that we can just write stuff that we think sounds cool, and it doesn’t have to all flow together, it doesn’t have to all sound the same. It can be totally different without a concept. So I think that really opened up my mind at least to, like, ‘What if I write something like this? Is that gonna be cool?’ And we’re all on the same page right now with all the songs — the 30 or so songs we’ve gathered so far. So we’ll just have to see how it goes.”

MASTODON‘s latest album, “The Hunter”, came out in September 2011 through Reprise Records.

“Worse Than War”, the new video from Denver thrashers HAVOK, can be seen below. Directed by Roy Warner, who worked on the band’s “From The Cradle To The Grave” and “Point Of No Return” clips, the video addresses the eight stages of genocide: classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, preparation, extermination and denial.

“Worse Than War” comes off HAVOK‘s latest album, “Unnatural Selection”, which was released in June via Candlelight Records. The ten-song CD was produced by David Sanchez, with mixing handled by Terry Date (PANTERA, OVERKILL, DEFTONES). It features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (SLAYER, MASTODON) and was mastered by James Murphy (ABORTED, WORLD UNDER BLOOD, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS).

“Unnatural Selection” is a far more mature collection of songs when compared to “Burn” (2009), and “Time Is Up” (2011). HAVOK has truly hit their mark with a sound that will please fans new and old. Another standout is the band’s rendition of the BLACK SABBATH classic “Children Of The Grave”.

“Unnatural Selection” track listing:

01. I Am The State
02. Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death
03. It Is True
04. Under the Gun
05. Waste of Life
06. Untitled
07. Chasing the Edge
08. Worse Than War
09. Children of the Grave
10. Unnatural Selection

HAVOK is guitarist/vocalist Dave Sanchez, bassist Mike Leon, guitarist Reece Scruggs, and drummer Pete Webber.
