Multi-camera video footage of Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA) and his solo band THE ILLEGALS performing a medley of the PANTERA classics “Domination” and “Hollow” on August 22 at Tipitina’s in New Orleans can be seen below.

2014 will mark the 20th anniversary of PANTERA‘s seventh album, “Far Beyond Driven”, and the band is planning to re-release a special edition for fans.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Anselmo chatted about the album with Artisan News saying, “Considering its contents, it is the heaviest record to come in at No. 1, and yes, there is a fucking goddamn re-release coming up. I don’t know anything, really, about it other than, yes, it’s gonna re-released with live footage from said show, but I can’t name the show yet, because I think it’s a fight between two different shows. And you never know. I’m trying to think of specialties or whatnot that will be included as well.”

Anselmo went on to discuss the band’s success saying, “The chemistry within PANTERA… In the early days, they were very guarded about what I said here and there. And then, finally, by ‘Vulgar Display Of Power’, it was, like, ‘Just let me handle the lyrics.’ And then by ‘Far Beyond Driven’, I was saying anything I fucking wanted to fucking really fucking sing about, man.”

Anselmo‘s first-ever solo album, “Walk Through Exits Only”, sold around 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at Philip‘s New Orleans studio, Nodferatu’s Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and José Manuel Gonzales“Walk Through Exits Only” is abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo.

TheRighttoRock.com has issued its latest podcast (episode #155), featuring an interview guitarist Grg Hammetson III of BEATALLICA — a satirical mashup act whose hilarious schtick marries the songwriting prowess of THE BEATLES to the deep-throated rock growl of METALLICA. The chat lasts approximately 25 minutes and can be streamed using the audio player below.

BEATALLICA‘s third full-length album, “Abbey Load”, was released on April 16 via Oglio Records (a label that is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year).

“Overall the album is our darkest,” explains guitarist/vocalist Jaymz Lennfield. “Not sure why it turned out that way, to be honest. We didn’t realize it til we got to listening to the first mixes. It sounds brooding in places. Not like we tuned down any more or played any stoner rock or anything. But the overall vibe is deeper than other projects we’ve done. Maybe it’s ’cause THE BEATLES‘Abbey Road’ was the last release for them — like the end of an era. And we were placing our fingers on that. After a while, I got to embrace that whole vibe.

BEATALLICA is always fun and interesting, and yes there are ‘candy’ songs on the album such as ‘Help!’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’… but there is something more foreboding about ‘Abbey Load’ than what we initially thought.”

Once more, BEATALLICA have successfully found links between both aforementioned bands, most notably on the album’s tour de force, “Abbey Load Medley”. “The medley…well, it’s obviously one of the great famous pieces of rock music,” says Lennfield. “We really enjoyed working in NEWER METALLICA tunes.

“Folks always ask us how much old stuff from METALLICA we can use. Helloooo…they have a LARGE catalog, so use it! Those tunes work great, plus the fact that we are doing what we always do: deal with tempo, time signature, rhythm patterns, keys from major to minor, adding our own riffs, etc., but now we have to make all the songs in the medley sound like they fit. Not just one song at a time, but now five songs, bang-bang-bang. The challenge was irresistible.”

BEATALLICA is so much more than a novelty cover band,” adds Oglio Records founder Carl Caprioglio. “BEATALLICA‘s members and producer are among the most creative and talented people I have encountered in my years with Oglio Records. Their ability to blend influences from these two legendary bands is as amazing and impressive today as it was when we met in 2006.”

Imagine what the BEATLES“Abbey Road” would have sounded like if it had been originally released by METALLICA, and you have a good starting point for “Abbey Load”.

“Abbey Load” track listing:

01. Come Together
02. I Saw Her Standing There
03. Michelle
04. Help!
05. Please Please Me
06. Blackbird
07. You Never Give Me Your Money
08. Sun King
09. Mean Mr. Mustard
10. Polythene Pam
11. She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
12. Golden Slumbers
13. Carry that Weight
14. The End
15. Her Majesty

Trev “Sin City Animal” McKendry of Metal Nation Radio recently conducted an interview with drummer Flo Mournier and vocalist Matt McGachy of Canadian extreme metallers CRYPTOPSY. You can now listen to the chat using the widget below.

CRYPTOPSY reunited with its original vocalist Lord Worm to perform a medley of tracks from the band’s 1994 debut album, “Blasphemy Made Flesh”, during an appearance at the eighth edition of the Amnesia Rockfest on June 15 in Montebello, Quebec, Canada.

CRYPTOPSY parted ways with Lord Worm (a.k.a. Dan Greening) in April 2007. No reason was given for Lord Worm‘s departure, but according to guitarist Alex Auburn, the vocalist was “kicked out” of the band and didn’t leave of his own accord (an account later disputed by Lord Worm).

The self-titled album from CRYPTOPSY was released in the U.S. on November 20, 2012 via Cryptopsy/Defen Society in association with Revolution Harmony/Candlelight Records.
