The creator of the heavy metal degree being offered by New College Nottingham has appeared on BBC Breakfast News to talk about the merits of the qualification, which were brought into question by education campaigners last week.

Music lecturer Liam Maloy has previously responded to accusations that the degree is a “waste of time” and an “easy option” for students by pledging that the course will be “will be academically rigorous”, adding that, “In the past, heavy metal has not been taken seriously and is seen as lacking academic credibility when compared with other genres such as jazz and classical music. But that’s just a cultural construction.”

Find out what else he had to say on the course – which has so far signed up more than 20 students at a cost of £5,750 each per year – below:

Super Collider, the album that is, will be released this June via Dave Mustaine‘s new label, Tradecraft.

“It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal,” said Mustaine during a break in the sessions. “It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label. Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all. We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, Super Collider. If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.”

Dave‘s crew will play the following venues:

Jun 3 Newcastle Academy
Jun 4 Glasgow Cademy
Jun 5 Manchester Academy
Jun 6 London Brixton Academy

Think we’ve dropped a clanger and left out some essential Ozzy tunage? Drop us a Tweet or come and hang out on Facebook and tell us where you reckon we went wrong. Although we definitely haven’t. Our playlists are tight.
