Hamburg, Germany based avant-garde metal act Todtgelichter (which was covered in our look at non-traditional black metal ) is currently looking for a new guitar player due to the imminent departure of longtime member Claudio. The band comments: “With a dedicated new guitar player we aim to strengthen our live presence in 2014 and to start the composing process for album number 5. “We are searching for YOU: you are no rookie, you have a sense for melodies and songwriting, you play tight, groovy and in time and (ideally) are familiar with the songs of our last two albums ‘Angst’ and ‘Apnoe.’ Furthermore, you are able to rehearse twice a week in Hamburg/Hamm; you like rehearsing as much as playing live and you are always looking to improve your playing and to broaden your musical horizon.

Yeah, this is a bit odd.

According to numerous reports surfacing, including this one from the Saudi Gazette, a guitar given to metal-loving Jakata governor Joko Widodo by Metallica‘s Rob Trujillo has been seized by anti-corruption authorities.

The guitar, which was signed “Giving Back!.. Keep Playin’ That Cool Funky Bass!” by Rob, was taken by the Corruption Eradication Commission as part of an investigation into whether any favours were exchanged as a part of the gift being received. Indonesia continues to be regarded as a country marred by corruption rife within its politics, and last year, the country fell to 118th of 176 countries in Transparency International’s annual graft index.

Rob Trujillo: No favours needed

“We will check if there is any conflict of interest or if there was an exchange of favours,” says Corruption Eradication Commission spokesman Johan Budi. “The screening process takes up to 30 days, and after that we will decide whether to return the guitar to him or confiscate it.”

“The governor loves rock music,” offers a spokesman on behalf of Widodo. “So he was certainly happy to receive it, it’s like getting a tennis racket from Boris Becker. To him, it was a souvenir and there was no exchange for favours.”

Widodo has been quoted as being a huge fan of Metallica, as well as the likes of Deep Purple and Napalm Death.

Volbeat and Rob

Mere weeks after announcing his departure from Anthrax, Rob Caggiano has only gone and joined Danish groove machine Volbeat! Fancy that!

Rob stepped in as producer on the new album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, out April 8 via Universal, but will now join the band full-time.

“The band is very proud and happy to announce that [Rob] will be the new guitar player in Volbeat,” comments the band on the official Volbeat website. “The collaboration with Rob in the studio was so inspiring and in good spirit that we the decided to keep him. Basically we went into the studio as a three piece and came out as a whole band!”

“Wow! I have to say I’m completely blown away by the turn of events over the last few weeks here in Denmark and at this point an update is definitely in order,” adds Rob. “To start with, I came to Denmark about a month ago to produce the new Volbeat record which in and of itself has been an incredibly exciting adventure from a producer’s perspective thus far. However, I’m extremely happy to say my relationship with these guys will not end there as it turns out……it’s just beginning! Michael had asked me on the phone before I got out here if I would play some guest solos on the new album in addition to my other duties and of course I was thrilled about that and agreed to do so.

“When I actually got to Denmark and started going through the material, this turned out to be so much more than that. After weeks of collaboration between Michael and I it became quite clear that we had an amazing creative chemistry together and a huge mutual respect for one another. It’s so refreshing and inspiring to be creative again on a songwriting level that words can’t even describe it and the vibe between Anders, Jon, Michael and I is just awesome. I’d say an artistic relationship like this one is very rare and it’s also something I don’t take for granted. When the guys asked me if I was interested in joining Volbeat the other day, my jaw just about hit the floor! It actually didn’t even register in my brain properly until the next morning but I gotta say, it also didn’t take me long to decide. It really isn’t the way I envisioned the rest of my year to play out but at the same time, THIS feels more “right” to me than anything I could have possibly imagined and I’m going for it! To all my fans, family, friends and overall supporters that have reached out to me over this last month wondering if I’m ever gonna play guitar again or what I’m up to in general etc……..See you all soon my friends and get ready for a wild ride!!!”

Circle of Chaos has checked in with the following announcement about recruiting a new guitarist: “Circle of Chaos is extremely proud to welcome our dear friend Anders ‘Atte’ Strokirk as the new member and guitar player of the band! “Atte is a well known character in the Stockholm metal scene and a very skilled guitar player. Most people recognize Atte as the man behind Blackshine, but for all you old school death metal fans you should know that Atte was the man to lay down the vocals on the classic Necrophobic debut album ‘The Nocturnal Silence.’ “Thru the years Atte has built up quite an experience after having supported and been on tour with UDO, Bruce Dickinson, Moonspell and Lacuna Coil to mention a few
