Drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) was interviewed on a recent episode of “Rockin’ Rich Lynch On The Radio”. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Portnoy, who co-founded DREAM THEATER more than 27 years ago, abruptly quit the band in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He has since been replaced by Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, JAMES LABRIE, STEVE VAI).

Portnoy played on AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s 2010 album, “Nightmare”, following the death of that band’s drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, and toured with them for the entire second half of that year.

Portnoy announced his departure from ADRENALINE MOB in June due to “scheduling conflicts.” A replacement drummer has not yet been announced.

THE WINERY DOGS‘ self-titled debut album sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on July 23 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15 via Victor Entertainment, the CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER.

Avenged Sevenfold’s M Shadows

Following their history-making, chart-topping success here in the UK, Avenged Sevenfold are celebrating a double-whammy this week by also getting a Number 1 album on the US Billboard 200!

Hail To The King sold 159,000 copies in its first week Stateside to see itself sit atop the charts, following in the steps of its predecessor, 2010′s Nightmare. Congrats, lads!

AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s sixth album, “Hail To The King”, sold 159,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on August 27 via Warner Bros.

The band’s fifth album, “Nightmare”, also landed at the top of the chart after selling 162,500 units back in August 2010.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s self-titled fourth album registered a first-week tally of 94,000 copies in November 2007, nearly three times what its 2005 effort, “City of Evil”, sold in its biggest week on the chart.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows said a few months back that the sound of the new CD was channeling earlier records from acts like PANTERA, METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH and others, and he told The Pulse Of Radio again just recently that the band was aiming for an older feel. “We said, ‘Well, why don’t we make a record that we would want to listen to today, that sounds like a late ’90s or before record?'” he said. “And then we said production-wise we’ve got to make it sound like one of those records. We’ve got to have the big guitars, the huge drums that are over the top, and just like the punch that those records gave you. So what I would say is that this is a record in 2013 that reminds me of like an early ’90s or before type metal record.”

“Hail To The King” is AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s first full album written and recorded without drummer and charter member James “The Rev” Sullivan, who died in December 2009 during the early stages of writing for “Nightmare”.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD recently notched the fifth No. 1 single of the band’s career as the song “Hail To The King” reached the top of the Active Rock radio chart.

The band will begin a fall headlining North American tour on October 3 in Chicago, concluding on October 26 in Las Vegas. Support on the road trip will come from DEFTONES and GHOST.

Denver’s 106.7 KBPI radio station conducted an interview with AVENGED SEVENFOLD guitarist Zacky Vengeance on September 2 at the Locura Festival at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Englewood, Colorado. You can now watch the chat below.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has scored its first-ever No. 1 U.K. album with its sixth full-length CD, “Hail To The King”.

The band’s previous effort, “Nightmare”, peaked at No. 5 in 2010.

“Hail To The King” is likely to sell between 170,000 and 180,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on Tuesday (August 27). That figure should be good enough to land the group its second straight No. 1 debut. AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s fifth album, “Nightmare”, opened with 162,500 copies back in August 2010 to land at the top of The Billboard 200 chart.

Drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) was interviewed on the latest edition of “The Classic Metal Show”, which is heard live on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. EST at TheClassicMetalShow.com. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

Asked why he bothers still answering DREAM THEATER-related questions in interviews when he seems to get criticized no matter what he says, Portnoy replied: “Because when I get asked it, and then I say, ‘I don’t wanna talk about it,’ then that’s what goes in print and that becomes the headline and then I’m still a bad guy; there’s no winning.”

he continued: “My problem is that I care too much and I’m too honest; to be honest, that’s the problem. I wish I could say I have thick skin and I don’t give a shit what people say, but the reality is I do care what people say, and I’ve always been that way. I read the Internet, and I care what the fans have to say, and when they tear me apart, I wish I could say it doesn’t bother me, but the reality is I’m human. I guess that’s the bad that comes with the good. The good is that I do care and I read the Internet and I try to be a very fan-oriented artist. But the bad that comes with that is that I’m also subject to all the ridicule and the criticism and things like that.

“So, what can I say?! It is what it is, and I try my best ti ignore it and try to… The reality is that for every one person that tears me apart and hates me, I see 99 other people that are supportive and get it and are behind me. And I guess that’s what I really need to focus on and appreciate.”

According to The Pulse Of Radio, the members of AVENGED SEVENFOLD have defended their musical choices in a new interview with the U.K.’s TeamRock Radio. Discussing the band’s newly-released sixth studio effort, “Hail To The King”, the bandmembers stand behind their decision to make a record that sounds more like old-school heavy rock, with singer M. Shadows saying, “We wouldn’t have been happy making another [2010 album] ‘Nightmare’, we wouldn’t have been happy making a [2003 second CD] ‘Waking The Fallen’, so if you’re not happy doing it, what’s the point of releasing it?”

Shadows adds, “To me that’s the definition of a sell-out, is people that don’t write the music that they truly want to write.”

The singer told The Pulse Of Radio that he holds AVENGED SEVENFOLD records to very high standards. “We’re not writing a record for money or to go on tour again,” he said. “We’re writing a record for our legacy. Like, we want to put out only good records, and we want to take our time with them and make sure it’s the best thing that represents us at this time. And so, a lot of times we sit there and go, like, we don’t want any filler, we don’t want this, we need to get it tighter, tighter, tighter, better, better, better.”

Shadows said a few months back that the sound of the new CD was channeling earlier records from acts like PANTERA, METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH and others, a far cry from the band’s original, more hardcore style.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD recently notched the fifth No. 1 single of the band’s career as the song “Hail To The King” reached the top of the Active Rock radio chart.
